Hey Jon, I'm a certified landscaper here in northern Canada boy would I love to give you advice on your pond and pond landscaping. Love you bud! First thing is soil acts as a sponge and water retention in dry conditions so first the small dirt island mount with no trees would have to go out. Having island gives you more shoreline for the dirt to retain water. So that dirt mount island should go out. For sure you need to plant trees for shade at the edge of your pond, even evergreens like cedars etc trees that grow vertically for shade that have surface roots*...will help the soil around your pond to manage water retention also shade for bass. Ornemental grasses along the pond edge also would help in peak of heat season for humidity retention along the shoreline and ground humidity... will also promote bugs and small critters as food. All of this to promote the less evaporation possible around your pond shoreline. It will create shadows on the water surface etc...Last thing for sure, install a well. 100% install your own well. You don't have alot of grade or any natural low spot on your property seems urban and flat. So rain water runoff and collection is limited on a flat urban lot with no natural grade. All in all maybe a 5k investment best of luck to ya thats all I have in mind for now. Cheers 🍻

Checkout Bamabass channel. They have a series detailing how to build a 5 acre pond. The key is adding a Clay layer on the bottom of the pond and sides, that would avoid the water sipping through. The Best way would be just let it dry, get that clay in and refill

You need a water supply with a float system to keep the pond at a min level during the dry season. Lots of people have suggested it! You may also need to look at lining the pond with clay or something.
Jon, i keep fish, grab a water test kit and keep an eye on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. Thats a large enough tank to fish ratio that you’re probably safe , but since its not technically cycled, id watch it close or you’ll stress the fish or could lose them altogether. Also- see if you can find a house plant called “pothos”. Easy to take care of and will grow out the filter or back of tank. Looks cool and is very beneficial - I use it in most of my tanks and it helps filter the nitrates out once the water has cycled. Love the videos dude. 🤙🏻 🎣
Also I believe having more places for them to hide would be ideal (fake or real wood, make sure to soak and boil real wood!) so they are less stressed.
A well to pump in water when needed is a must, vegetation for shade and water retention second (right kind of vegetation, talk to nursery experts, you do not want something like juniper that sucks insane amounts of water.) Have a soil expert check if you have enough natural clay for water retention, see the lake build process Bama Bass on You Tube had to go through because he had porous soils. Bama Bass also had to get a well which he has set quite a ways back from the lake and PVC pipe to the lake from it.
Hey Jon, a little late but my grandfather has 4 ponds on his farmland. The way he kept the water in his biggest pond was laying down a gigantic tarp on the bottom then layering dirt, sand, rocks, etc. on top. If your biggest problem is water level that is the best advice I can give. Hope you figure it out!
I’ve kept a lot of fish as pets. As someone else said, grab a test kit and watch your ammonia and nitrite. A couple other things: get some large rocks and an easy growing plant like a hornwort or cabomba. Breaking up sight lines is the easiest way to curb aggression between fish. The plants will also consume the nitrates and provide additional oxygen. Also, you can buy an air regulator valve for the air stone either at petco or a hardware store. Cheap, easy and allows you to have a large air stone without blowing up the water surface. Might also be beneficial to do a couple water changes with the pond water. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Love the vids!
Maybe get a beaver colony relocated to your property. They’re good at flooding and your pond will raise. They improve water quality by filtering it, and the lodges, also known as moose nests are good at holding fish sometimes. The beaver does it best
Larry, Curly, and Moe for the other three. As far as aggression give them lots of mini laydowns makes more territory in a small space. Thanks to people like you I bought a project boat yesterday.
Lets gooooo!! Another JB episode always makes the day better. Currently watching some pond and creek JB missions. Hope to see some new ones soon here... Love your content! Can't wait for the ice season!
There should be a underwater wheel or pipe you can connect to under the ground like up to 20 ft that can push out fresh cold water. My friend has his own little pond and does not dry up or over heat or freeze to much because of the running cold water from the wheel
I think the best bet would be to expand the pond out far more! Dig the pond out another three or four feet, add some clay liner, and make it wider, as wide as you can afford to make it. This will give you the space to add your own cover and desired vegetation for your bass and panfish, and give you space to add a well without it interfering! Your bass will grow big and healthy and have space to thrive and grow without overeating the population over time as well! Whatever you do, I hope the pond will be bigger and better next time, I was excited when this project started
The solution is to build a well and keep the pond clear and full with well water. Super easy and fast. Should take a week at most to get someone out there.
Hi Jon I live in Maine and I would recommend next summer for a video is to kayak fish pushaw stream it's located around old town. I've fished it before and nothing but just very viscous Pike, pickerel, bass and many other species.
I named the bass in my 55 gallon aquarium JB…yep after you 😂…this spring I’ll put him in my small garden pond…he’ll be more comfortable in a larger home
Jon…if I might suggest you need to add beneficial bacteria into your tank like tetra safestart. Your API product treated the water for choloramines and other issues but your tank will not have bacteria in it to process the ammonia into nitrites and then into nitrates. You will see an ammonia spike which can quickly kill the fish; safestart will add the Bb in ahead of time. Maybe this is too late or you did add some but it’s the most common cause of fish dying from new tank syndrome.
If you want the bass to grow and stay healthy, feed them good frozen foods like bloodworms, krill, brine shrimp etc till they're big enough to eat minnows. Also, since they might get aggressive with each other, giving them their own territories would help. Something like small clay flower pots laying on their side works well in cichlid tanks
Hey Jon!! I have a suggestion maybe. @BamaBass had a leak in his pond too and he used some sort of mixture that seeps into the soil (not sure about rocks if yours happens to hit rock but maybe) and it plugged it right up. And also helps the entire pond floor as a whole. Just a wild guess I could be wrong about a lot!
I personally would have filled the fish tank up with the pond water as it's already well established with good bacteria. With the size of the tank and filter it would not take long for the bacteria to build up on the sponges. may not have been as clear as you wanted to begin with but when you start doing your 30% water changes it would soon clear up. I'm from the UK so not sure how hardy those fish are, but definitely keep tabs on the ammonia, nitrites and nitrate levels!
I had a little bass for a while just like the one you caught. I fed it baby Daphne for a while and then just strait up perch minnows about the same length as him.
Reach out to Texas game wardens. Idk if they help, but in Oklahoma the Oklahoma wildlife department helps people with their ponds and even stock them with native fish. Worth a shot. If not, they probably know someone you can reach out to
Way to go Jon, if you or someone keeps fishing the pond you'll finally catch the big one. I bet he's hiding out somewhere. He didn't get big by being stupid. Keep on keeping on..
With all jokes aside. I enjoy watching your videos. They make me happy for whenever I’m done with school. Please never stop making good content. Keep up the good work.
I recommend taking all the baby bass out and put them in a stock tank. Once the pond drys up, line the pond with clay. This will keep water in and won’t let it seep ojt
You should add some drift wood and real live plants to the aquarium, make it look like their natural habitat I think that would be a fun aqua scape video
Use some fishing weights to keep the airstone from floating. You can tie fishing string and the weights around the bottom of the stone and the bury it below your substrate. You can also get a suction cup that will have a clip for the air tubing. Stick a couple on the back of the tank and that will secure it as well
Get a water well dug to keep it topped off. Make sure it doesn’t get too low before you pump more water into it so the ph levels aren’t completely fucked up. Also, run an aerator often! My dad had a south Texas pond that size. It was sealed but could be emptied just by the sun and lack of rain. Good luck man!
Hey Jon! I feel like this pond could be salvaged, but it may not be a bad call to start from scratch somewhere else with a liner and stuff, spend a year or two building up baitfish populations, then stock bass in there. Also, just so you know; largemouth grow really quick and they're gonna outgrow that tank pretty fast. Not sure how long you're planning on keeping those bass but if it's long term (1 yr+) I would suggest looking to upgrade to a much bigger tank so they don't get stressed out or fight each other for space. I believe they recommend a 125 gallon tank for a 15 inch largemouth, and if you're keeping 2 together they recommend at least a 200 gallon. Just keep that in mind for the future. And for food for the little largies I would suggest bloodworms (either frozen or dried); you can find them at petco or petsmart. Best of luck with the pond restoration, and stoked to see the bass grow!
You need a clay blanket put down to keep all the water in. You can get a water well put in. Look at bama bass. He just got an entire 5 acre pond built and did it right. Good luck brother
Its expensive, but bring in some clay and cover the bottom and sides of the pond in it, will allow little to no seepage into the ground, also id plant some trees along the edge to help with evaporation by shade
Hey, love your videos man. Did you ever do anything with that bronco in the back of your yard. I really hate to see a good truck just sitting there doing nothing. I can totally see you driving that thing around too.
Pump it out, line with clay, pack it down and refill with water. If you want it to work a well would be the best option so you always have water readily available to top up when the warmer weather comes around. Also you should name them Garry Larry Jerry and Terry
Very heartbreaking to see, but there is positivity. You can relocate it, create a new design, and add newer things to it; whatever that may be. I see a beautiful new beginning for your pond. Go crazy with it. There's endless possibilities. Peace ☮️.
You basically have a retention pond. Water levels fluctuate in retention ponds. You definitely need a water source. Ground water is usually best or constantly moving water nearby or into it. The nitrates and ammonia will take about 2-3 years to equalize. If your water goes up and down without constantly remaining the same, you will have massive die off when it gets too full or shallow. A douser can show you where to dig to find water to constantly fill.
You should put some live plants and driftwood and also some stones the plants will filter the water from nitrate, nitrite and ammonia and they will also ad oxygen so you don’t need a airstone the wood and stone will provide surface area for beneficial bacteria and structure for the bass to hide. The plant I suggest is hornwort or a other easy and fast growing plant.
Pump out the pond, dig it deeper this summer, dig it bigger and deeper, add about 3 feet of clay and compact it to seal ground seepage. Dig Dig well and within a couple years you'll have your pond
try putting down a clay blanket since putting down liner obviously is not a option about two to three feet and dig the pond deeper or start a new one, remove that island and think about hydroseeding if you are worried about erosion.
The most cost-effective way to ceep water in your pond is to plant shade trees on the edges and line the pond with a plastic liner ... It is simply the cheapest.
I would start from starch on the pond. Work with Rob and Flair and get their help on building a great pond. Like you I would love to have a backyard pond.
Drill a well next to it so it can fill the pond a lot of people around me have ponds higher than the water table and to keep them full they use there well… depending on your area and how far they half to drill till they hit water depends on the price they may also drill and never hit water and you still half to pay for that so there is always a risk
Jon you remind me a lot of myself when I was young. I was always fishing or thinking about fishing. Fished my first bass tournament when I was 13 yrs, old and always imagined i would someday have a bass pond in my yard. Fast forward a few decades and I do indeed have a pond in my backyard, but its for ornamental koi lol. As fate would have it I ended up building koi ponds and water features as a second career. You seem to be on the right course. Keeping aerator running on the pond should keep many of the smaller fish alive during the low water conditions, minus and predation from herons. I applaud you for attention to detail with the water treatments and matching water temps before releasing the bass into the tank, well done. As far ideas for the pond. There are several options to choose from depending upon application and budget. Options such as EPDM Liners, RPE liners to adding a clay bottom. Now the issue of replacing water. Wells can useful and expensive, still a viable option. Keep in mind well water can be contaminated, and most often have very low oxygen levels. Keep that aerator running, we put aerators in all of our builds.I can not stress enough how much good that dissolved oxygen does for your ponds overall health. Another option is rain water harvesting. Where you collect the rainwater that falls on your roof tops and store it in and underground lined reservoir. You would be amazed at the amount of water that comes off a roof from a light shower in just a few minutes. Many of my fellow pond builders across the country will hire water trucks to come fill a large pond after it has been constructed. Sounds impossible, but i've seen 30,000 to 40,000 gallon ponds filled in a day using only water trucks. I will be looking forward to seeing what direction you choose, and the progress you make. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Best of luck!
Jon when you drain your pond buy some clay and compacted it with something heavy and make the layer of clay at least 12 inches or buy some pvc liner it's not to expensive i think clay would be better because it's a natural material.
I think you should take the time to dig that pond at least 2x bigger and/or remove the island, if you drain it, adding a clay layer or a to the bottom should help retain some water if you think its absorbing into the ground. A well sounds like a good plan so you always have the ability to add water. It will be a massive undertaking, but would be pretty awesome to do that pond up right.
Hey Jon maybe bring in a water tanker truck for now to keep your fish alive until you get your pond situation figured out good luck with what ever you decide
Try to add some rocks and maybe connect your pond to an underground water source or a creek near your house to keep the flow and make it as deep as posibble
For the first like month and a half try to do a 50% water change once a week to keep the ammonia down while the tank goes through the nitrogen cycle. It would be beneficial in your case to get some wet gravel/sand from your outdoor pond for the fish tank since it should have some beneficial bacteria living on it to help keep the fish alive. (Bottled starter bacteria is also something you can buy from the pet store to add into the tank if you don’t want to use gravel from the pond) Also fish tanks come out to about 10lbs per gallon with water/rocks and decor. For the air stone you can get a check value for like $2 if you were worried there’s to much air coming out of the air pump you got.
Make sure the base u built for support is flat, without it being 100% flat it will crack. U can use a neoprene pad under it or even a thick yoga mat to level out the bottom. Cheers
There’s different types of clay you can haul in to have spread out in the bottom of the pond and also my old boss used to use bentonite for our watering holes for cattle! 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Pump out the pond, dig it deeper this summer, dig it bigger and deeper, add about 3 feet of clay and compact it to seal ground seepage. Dig Dig well and within a couple years you'll have your pond
Great stuff Jon B. I recommend a lid. Bass tend to jump.
Put a well that pumps through the creek and makes the creek water level higher so the pond level stays high.
try putting down a clay blanket since putting down liner obviously is not a option about two to three feet and dig the pond deeper or start a new one, remove that island and think about hydroseeding if you are worried about erosion.
Jon, if you want your fish to enjoy their native habitats you should have bought some live plants that are native to Texas.
First things first Jon you need to get the remaining bass out of the pond, I would recommend a gersh dervice to move them out.
Jon B. I See You Channeld your Inter Finatic 😅 🤘🏽
Drill a well next to it so it can fill the pond a lot of people around me have ponds higher than the water table and to keep them full they use there well… depending on your area and how far they half to drill till they hit water depends on the price they may also drill and never hit water and you still half to pay for that so there is always a risk
Don’t let flair get to that tank, he’s gonna try and catch his PB
haha truth!
Kinda hard to do because he no longer travels outside of Nebraska/ Iowa
Love ya jon
Lets call one "Goateebow"
Hey Jon check out the 5 acres pond videos to give you some ideas on how to fix your pond.
Got to go spongebob. Gary, Patrick, Sandi and Bob
Hey Jon maybe bring in a water tanker truck for now to keep your fish alive until you get your pond situation figured out good luck with what ever you decide
drain it, dig it deeper, then line it with clay. It should hold water just fine then. good luck john keep it up!
U should put a sand point style well next to your pond so u can keep water in it
Try to add some rocks and maybe connect your pond to an underground water source or a creek near your house to keep the flow and make it as deep as posibble
(Bottled starter bacteria is also something you can buy from the pet store to add into the tank if you don’t want to use gravel from the pond)
Also fish tanks come out to about 10lbs per gallon with water/rocks and decor.
For the air stone you can get a check value for like $2 if you were worried there’s to much air coming out of the air pump you got.
Make sure the base u built for support is flat, without it being 100% flat it will crack. U can use a neoprene pad under it or even a thick yoga mat to level out the bottom. Cheers
Jon B. you got 5k likes on your other video so you should mount your little PB bass you rescued
I don’t think i’ve ever seen someone raise LMB from the time they are that small. I can’t wait to see what they grow up to be
I agree.
Hopefully we can watch a series on these little guys!
if you can’t get a well drain it and put down a clay blanket over the bottom
Fin would be a great name and I would love to see regular updates on the baby bass
There’s different types of clay you can haul in to have spread out in the bottom of the pond and also my old boss used to use bentonite for our watering holes for cattle! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Jon you need to line the pound with clay and make a well to pump water into the pond when their is a drought
Jon please show us the lexuc rc coupe and Mercedes in your garage!
JON with ANOTHER BANGGGGGERRRRRR
