Just one thing to add, the soft fibers you were touching literally are a form of asbestos, there are 6 minerals that form true asbestos, and as you mentioned jade is one of them! Soapstone, jade, serpentine and asbestos are all forms of serpentinised ultramafic magma, all are extremely similar chemically and usually form in deposits with more than one member being laid down in close proximity. The differences in hardness and physical properties have far more to do with crystallization pattern than any real chemical distinctions. Nice video, thank you!

Is there a block of sponges ( blue and yellow) to reduce the water spray on Trim saw? I really like how the water tray goes under everything. I think you said that you built your vertical flat lap. Did you have any plans for that? I have been looking everywhere for one. I’m sure someone makes vertical flat laps.

The top block is closed cell foam I had lying around to catch the water. The flat lap was built on a modified bench grinder, no plans. I pulled it apart to get the shaft out and got it machined to size, they made a backing plate and threaded it etc. It could work without modification if the shaft is the right size. It did cost a bit. I made a video about pulling the grinder apart, it was an interesting exercise.

That was interesting to see how your equipment is set up. I think we all have our fill of sludge of all sorts. I really wished I had a vertical flat lap. I think I can build one easy. Just trying to plan it.

I have a question for you and any others who wish to comment. I want to buy a respirator for jade carving and rock grinding and carving. Do you recommend a "particulate" filter? an "asbestos" filter? Thank you

Yes, absolutely. I personally have only used a cloth mask. I rely heavily on using water to keep the dust down though. Sorry I don't have any better recomendations.
