I had three old seagulls sold them to Saving Old Seagull Guy who moors his yacht in same Marina as me.. Used money to get new internal tank for my Tohatsu 2.3hp motor..
I had a tohatsu 30 on my old Mayland it was a good motor, I use a 4hp yamaha on my little boat, I will hopefully run the seagull on it too and do a video using the seagull.
Thats great, they are a brilliantly simple engine to work on. I'm not sure on the age of mine possibly 80s, it is a later one though as it has the plastic fuel tank. I'm looking forward to doing a video of it on my dinghy, will have to wait for better weather though.
Did this originally come with a cover over the carb intake to stop water splash or spray entering the carb? Can you fill the head with salt-away, muriatic acid, CLR or similar and let it sit and percolate a while to help clean the passages in the block....? You may have to place the machine in a funny position so the exit tell tale hole is uppermost...and fill it from there.... Do you have the 25:1 needle in so you can use a good TCW3 (water-cooled outboard engine) 2 stroke synthetic mixing oil.... that would cut a huge amount of smoke output....
