- To celebrate a perfect summer day and surpassing 600 subscribers, I headed to the Omemee Rail Trail. Starting in Lindsay I headed to Peterborough, through Omemee and over the 1500 foot long Doube Trestle Bridge. I also decided that to celebrate and thank my 600 subscribers I would offer the chance to win a pair of size medium Gore bib shorts.
All you have to do to win is leave a comment down below. - Спорт
I too lnow the time suck nature of work. Love every video you make and wanted you to know I started riding rail trails this year bc of you! You changed my cycling life. Thank you so much. I also got my first 100km ride in just last week.
Matthew, that is such an enormous compliment and the main reason why I enjoy putting out these videos.
I am very much enjoying your trips in the region north-west of the greater Toronto area and pleased to see safer areas to ride. Growing up in the 70's in what is now the far reaches of Markham-Stouffville there was little choice but to venture out on Highway #7. A gravel bike would have been better to tackle the less travelled but unpaved line and concession roads that existed then. You are fortunate to have rail trails, as where I am now located in South Texas, abandoned rail lines most often revert back to the easement owner. Texas is fortunate to have many well maintained and some not so well maintained gravel ranch roads. Gravel racing is popular and has attracted the likes of Adam Roberge to a local race, who I understand was also in P2A. Races and bike riders are important support for tourism in declining small towns. I enjoy the videos; please keep them coming.
I am so glad that I can take you on a little nostalgia trip Peter.
Another great video. I love riding rail trails, the peace and tranquility. Thank you for posting and keep up the great .
Thank you Dennis, I would say the tranquility and absence of cars are the two major draws for me.
That was exhilarating! Beautiful route and excellent video. I don’t need the shorts, thank you, not my size…don’t ride a bike!! Loved the token flowersxxx
The flowers were there just for you and I threw in a butterfly for good measure XXX
Welcome back!
Thank you for another great video! Keep them coming I love being able to watch your videos and travel along on the adventure with you!
Cheers!
Thank you Jeremy, I really appreciate that.
Looking like a great ride and some beautiful shots of the landscape I joy your video great job keep it up Al. Howarth
Thanks Al. I hope to have many more videos out this fall.
Good to see you back, as an expat in Ontario I'm with you, jelly all the way!! Congratulations on the 600. The Omemee trail looks like a great ride. Cheers Bob...
Yeah I thought I was right!! Jello just sounds so wrong!!
Great ride and video. I’m a new cyclist with my husband and we’ve been loving the rail trails. Thanks for all the good info.
I am glad that you are discovering the beauty of rail trails Lisa
Great to see you on the bike Andy! You look well - we were just camping at Emily Provincial Park. Didn’t know about this trail or would have checked it out! 😎
No way!!!! that's such a coincidence. It is a really beautiful area, I shall be back to do a bike packing trip one day and will probably camp at the park. I hope you are all well xx
Congratulations on reaching 600! What a milestone!
I’ve missed your videos, and am happy you’re back! But the best part, is in a few days time we will be riding TOGETHER in the Grand County Fondo! Can’t wait for that!
Looking forward to it John. I'm just trying to get a little bit of last minute fitness so I can keep up!!!
@@cardiaccyclist7477 I’m sure you and I will be able to match pace.
Thanks for showing the rail trail 👍😎🚴💪
You are very welcome Pete!!
Great to see the channel growing! You've been a great resource for getting to know the area's rail trails... keep it up!
Thank you Rick, I appreciate that.
Thank you for another local rail trail recon.
You are most welcome Sean.
Thanks for posting this great video! The Omemee trail is near the top of my list and I appreciate your review. Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks Andy. This was my first time on the trail, but I would have to say it's fairly near the top of my list too.
Good to see you back on the trail again, great scenery on this trail
Thanks Brad, yes its great to be back!!
Nice video. We've done Lindsey to Omemee once on our tandem, and then a few years later Lindsey to Peterborough (and back). Nice trail. I can see from your video that have resurfaced the Doube bridge, looks much nicer now then when we did it.
Yeah it did appear to be in really decent condition, apart from a bit of grafitti, which I never really understand!!
Congrats on 600! Been on this trail myself. Very relaxed ride. Try the eastern portion next time, Uxbridge to Lindsay! 👍
Thank you very much Mike. Yes I have done that trail as well and it's beautiful. I made a video of it and it ranked number one in my 5 favourite rail trails video as well.
Thanks very much for the great video.
I have rode Uxbridge to Lindsay, but never this route.
Planning on Lindsay to Peterborough and then north to Lakefield along the river.
Going to wait until a little cooler..lol
Txs again, Frank the Crank
Oh that is going to be a fantastic route.
Thanks for the video!! I’m watching this from Frankfurt, Germany while on vacation. Glad to see you back on the trail making great and informative videos. I may just check this trail out this fall.
Thanks Mike. Enjoy your trip!
I grew up in Omemee...glad that you enjoyed the trail
It's a wonderful trail Jay
Great suggestion for my wife and I to consider in our Ontario cycling exploration.
You would not be disappointed Pete.
Congrats on the milestone! Love to see your channel grow
Thanks Jason, I really appreciate that
great video and trails thanks for sharing
You're very welcome
Nice video. In August We rode from Uxbridge to Lindsay following the previous video. Maybe will ride this trail in October.
I am really pleased to hear that! You will love this trail too.
You should check out the railtrail from peterborough to hastings as well. Glad to see your channel growing.
I am going to be that way on the 11th, so maybe I will try it out. I'm still deciding.
Love your videos, they are always so relaxing!
Thank you Richard, I'm really glad you enjoy them.
You're becoming a bit of a rail trail guy. I completely get it, I am too. Ride safe and keep the videos coming!
Thanks Robert, yeah it's hard to beat the peace and quiet, on most of them anyway.
We really enjoy your videos!
Thank you Karen, I hope you will continue to enjoy them in the coming years and months.
Hey Buddy, looks like an awesome ride. I think you might be inspiring me to take my road bike out on some rail trails! PS, if you ever wanna ride the Milenium Trail in Prince Edward County, give me a hollar and I'll tag along!
Hey Richard. Well that's a coincidence because I am actually going to be riding it this coming Friday. I will be going super slow though as I have the PEC Grand Fondo the next day. If you are around, it would be great if you joined me.
Hey I found this trail last year and kind'a forgot about it (I'd have to drive up there from Burlington). Thanks for the reminder, maybe I'll get up there after Labour day.
That's quite a long drive, but with the other network of trails in the area, I think it would be worth it.
If you are planning to ride the rail trail in Essex County Ontario, let me know and I will join you. Thanks for the video, I really like the trestle bridges. I am looking forward to heading up there and checking it out.
That sounds like a plan Ron. What specific rail trails, or trails do you have out that way?
Great video Andrew! Good to see you back! I'm back on my MTB, still waiting for the Defy lol. Thanks for doing all these great videos. I have yet to do Uxbridge to Peterborough. Have you thought about doing any rail trails in Quebec or the U.S.? The Erie Canal is on my bucket list. Cheers!
That sounds like an interesting proposition. I don't have anything like that planned yet, but it would be something interesting for the future. Perhaps a retirement adventure!!!
They really have done a lot of work since I was last in PTBO (as you said to another comment I made).
I lived in Lindsay too (1992-94). I think the only decent trail then was the one running to the Ken Reid Conservation Area (my memory might be faulty though) and it ran north-south. I can’t remember where I accessed the trail in Lindsay but I do remember the more rural northern parts. I’ve really got to go back and visit so I can ride Lindsay to PTBO trail (or partway).
I will be worth the trip.
Yep. I’d enjoy it.
Today a friend sent me a link to the old Nipissing Ghost Road and suggested we try it. It looks like it follows some current roads, which I’d prefer to avoid. I’m trying to talk him and another friend into heading further south for a rail trail ride instead.
Hello from Downunder in winter, enjoy the vids. Bibs too small for me.
Hello there Randel. I absolutely love Australia, Perth is one spot I missed though. The cycling must be epic there!
@@cardiaccyclist7477 Best cycling city in the world I reckon...but I am biased of course
Well done on 600 subs 👍If my name comes up, draw again as I haven't been a medium since I was 15 years old 😁
HaHa, me neither!!!
Hey Andrew glad your back in the saddle again ahahahha missed your videos. I’ve been thinking about trying this trail out and the scenery looks amazing. Have you considered the Lindsay to Fenlon Falls rail trail? I believe it’s a continuation of the Omemee trail. Cheers 🍻
I certainly have been thinking about that. You can actually go all the way to Haliburton via Kinmount from Lindsay!! That would be amazing
Thanks. I always wonder how hard/easy/bumpy these would be to ride pulling a kids trailer.
Possibly the first 5/10km out of Lindsay would be heavy going. Great trails for kids trailers would be Caledon, Cambridge to Paris and definitely the LE & N Rail trail. I made videos of all of these.
Found your site just the other week, its fantastic. As an older cyclist, 64 in a couple of weeks, I certainly can appreciate what you are doing. Keep up the good work and content. Are you participating in the Groady roadie in Shedden on the 17th of Sept?
I had not heard of it until you mentioned it, but now I'm quite interested. I can't find much information, apart from their Facebook page though.
Interesting
yes
Another winner, Andrew! Your timing is great as I'm planning to ride this trail in mid Sept as part of a bikepacking trip. Good to know that my 38c tires would be fine (I am coming from 40c) and the trail is generally in fine shape. What were those things on the trail that you crushed at the beginning of the video?
Ahhh they were really ripe, fermenting apples!! There are so many great trails around there, you'll have an awesone trip!
I honestly first thought you are trampling on onions :D
Haha, yep I see what you mean.
You didn't mention that Omemee is Neil Young's childhood hometown, rumour has it that he might be living there.
Where does this trail rank among your faves?
Oh wow, I had no idea, that is so cool.
Nice video. What is your favourite rail trail?
I think is possibly still the Uxbridge to Lindsay Rail Trail.
You really need to work on that work/cycling balance. Always enjoy your videos
Oh Harry, you are so right.
are there any trails that go from Peterborough to Barrys Bay
Hi Philip, I know you can go from Peterborough to Haliburton all the way by trail, but for more accurate cycling information in that area, it may be best to contact the Peterborough Cycling Club: Link here: peterboroughcc.com/#:~:text=The%20Pcc,for%20skill%20enhancement%20and%20socializing
