Nice to see you playing an E-MU , the gear of all their decades is always worth it. I think the 40 years of the E-MU history (I count it from 1971 to approx 2011) should not be forgotten. Great that you own this part of a history :) !
The Emax II is simply one of the greatest samplers of all time. I own one (possible rack version soon) and I love everything about it. The operating system, the sound and the unique quality of the results when recording with it. Awesome 👌
I've had an Emax II of some sort since 2010 or so. They are fun samplers. If you dont have the Alan Wilder Depeche Mode zip disk samples, let me know. They are a lot of fun, and it's really interesting to see how he set all the samples he needed for each song across the keyboard.
It would of been nice to see a few more Emu keyboard samplers, everything seemed to go rack mount around the end of the 90's before samplers went PC based ! :D
I just bought an Emax II that came with the factory disks. However, the data on at least one out of each set is corrupted. Where can I find this data? Also, can you please tell me more about the mod you did to upgrade the hard rive space? Much appreciated!
I used a SCSI2SD to add a SD card for storage using the SCSI connector inside the EMAX, if you do a search on google or check some of the forums I believe you can find disk images of the EMAX disks but you will need an old PC with floppy drive to be able to write them back. Maybe also try the Emulator/Emax groups on facebook :D
Reeeeeally nice sounds there Can you so a demo of the sample Transform Modulation function?? It’s so enigmatic I almost feel I need to get one just to try that ^_^
As in using them in 'modern' productions. I don't know.. I haven't tried but I'm guessing for the Berlin inspired Ambient music I make they would work well in some reverb :D
No idea sorry! I like to use the Sampler as a stand alone and don't transfer stuff in or out without using the analog in's and outs or a factory floppy :D Anyone else know ?
@@100ThingsIDo Yes, the Emax II SE can do 'Additive Synthesis' h& 'Re-synthesis', however the PPG Wave 2.x used wavetables, so that doesn't explain it...however, the Synclavier could do Additive Synthesis. p.s. Thanks for posting this video. I sounds great & looks to be in excellent condition! Have fun! ☺
@@derekbaker3279 Thanks for the Info :D Depending on the revision the Syncalvier can also do re-synthesis (turn a sample into a progressive FM Timbre that mimic's a wavetable) . Amazing what was able to be done at the time with such limited technology ... and how surprising we have not seen many advances since in the last 20 years.
@@100ThingsIDo Very true & thank you. 🖒🖒 If I recall correctly, the Synclavier started out as a product of research at Cal Tech, MIT, or another sci/tech-focused university in the U.S.A., so it's a sign that the physics of sound & hearing was very well understood, as was some of the anatomy, physiology & psychology of our species' processing & perceptions of sound, 'music' & speech. Once the logic circuits & other technology had generally caught up with the scientific knowledge & understanding, engineers were able to manifest the science in the form of the Synclavier. I will infer that, since thene, there definitely has been some progress in our knowledge & understanding of sound, music, language, and especially brain function, but the fact that the Synclavier continues to impress & amaze may be a reflection of the fact that the vast majority of progress in synthesis since the Synclavier appeared on the scene has been about the technological capabilities of logic processors, electronics & miniturization, interfaces, storage, mass production & affordability. I guess that the Scientists had gotten things nearly right, almost from the start of the Synclavier project. ☺
Hey man! So true! its a 16gb in the SCSI2SD but the EMAX can only handle about 960 or so MB per hard drive ... Which is still quite an amazing amount if you switch your mind back to 1991! Thanks for checking out the clip if you see a cheap VP9000 in Japan let me know :D
THese sounds remind me of the hours and hours I spent developing additive synth patches for my Casio FZ sampler using the Digidesign SoftSynth Program on an Atari ST: www.muzines.co.uk/articles/digidesign-softsynth/2119
Wow that looks interesting. I didn't get a chance to read the whole article but does it use the internal sound chip on the ST ? I have 1040 FM laying round still some place! :D

I've always wanted one of these. Before then I coveted the Emulator but could never get the funds together. A while back I watched a video comparison of the two & actually preferred the sound of this to the Emulator (it sounds darker atmospherically)
Yep, the earlier SE with the analog filters sounds possibly the best of of the EMAX's but I love the black on black of the EMAX II :D I have never had the opportunity to pick up an Emulator, for me the II would be nice but they are super rare in Australia!

It is really great and buit like a Tank. My friend Valmont (channel is just Valmont) has done a heap of clips with it :D
The Emulator and Emulator II libraries are worth getting a hold of too!
I've been looking for a while but the prices are mad these days :D
The sounds of my late 80's early 90's music youth. LOVE
Thanks as always S2S :D
Would you copy all those flopy's and make the patches available for download? I'd pay for that. Cheers!
Is there an easy way for me to import them on a PC or Mac ? At the moment its either on SD card for my SCSI2SD as raw data or on physical disk ? :D
BEST SYNTH EVER 🧡
Nice looks. Looks so much better than that tablet screened thing with knobs in the back.
ha! I must say the Quantum does not lend its-self aesthetically to being filmed for sure! :D
Another synthistor. Stay awhile, stay forever! Sounds amazing!
DISTROY THEM MY ROBOTS! ..... I need more synth space man! :D
I love my emax 2😊
Ahh... you’ve just inspired me to pull out my original Emax SE and make some new patches!
Exactly why I do 100Things :D Enjoy!
is this sound set available for the emax??

A classic beauty ! That very 1st note reminds me of a Jan Hammer soundtrack to Miami vice ! ;-)
There are a few sounds in here that are very familiar :D
I realize it's quite off topic but does anyone know a good website to watch new movies online?
@Case Kendrick lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
