Cake Stencil FAIL and how to fix it

- Hi guys and welcome!!! In today’s video I walk you through what NOT to do when using a stencil to decorate a cake. Long story short, I stopped baking when the pandemic hit and when I decided to make a cake once again for my mom’s birthday, I definitely didn’t think it thru. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to show you that even the most talented make mistakes.

Tips on what to DO:
· Once you have smoothed out the cake the best you can, make sure to chill the cake for 10 min or more. How do you know it is chilled enough? If you touch it the frosting doesn’t get stuck to your finger.
· Pin the stencil to the cake with either toothpicks or pins.
· Start spreading the desired colored frosting over the stencil. Remember a little goes a long way.
· Scarp the excesses frosting off
· When you get ready to do the other side of the cake make sure to chill the cake again. This is key. This ensures the original frosting and even the cake does not come off with the stencil when you try to remove it.
· Clean or wipe any excess frosting frosting from the stencil after every use.
Tips on what NOT to do:
· Semi plan or think about the steps you need to take before actually doing it. Don’t try to wing it.
· Don’t try to just hold the stencil in place
· Don’t eyeball things, unless it's an alcoholic drink ..LOL I cut the straws uneven and it made my top tier kind of fly in the air.
