Glenn Adams on banjo, Ray Adams on guitar, Don Hill on Dobro. With Chris Whittles on mandolin and Dave Whittles on bass, they were Bytown Bluegrass. They were tight as new shoes and smooth as old China silk!!
Hi Pete. Is there any way you could send me a copy of their last album together? I had it on cd and it won't work anymore. Chris passed away in 2013, and it is the only connection left of his amazing voice.
I bought the 45 of this song when I first started working in 1971. What I would give to see them now. I am learning this song for my own repertoire. Does anyone know if they are still in the Ottawa area?
Amazing. The upbeat tempo and delivery only serves to make the lyrics more sad, more melancholy.
Bytown was a great band - it would be nice to hear more of them.

By far the best recorded version of this amazing lyric by Kristofferson.
Great song and this is definitely the best version I've heard.
EAsily the best version ever of this song + pretty awesome bluegrass too!
And that would be my friend Jo-Anne Adams singing - awesome!

Peter Rowan also has a really good cover of this on his walls of time album ( that's what led me to this)
Ralph Carlson is also quite amazing in his own right. :)
Yes, Ralph was amazing. We lost him far too soon.
I love this rendition but it was better live 😊
It is resonator guitar
Great song and this is definitely the best version I've heard.
