These little nudges are very helpful. When I think there's so much I need to fix, it seems overwhelming and hard to start. But when you break it down into trying just one little thing, it seems very doable and almost a game even.
At the end of the video you said, "Okay my little rain clouds, thank you for listening! Until next time." and i just wanna say no, thank YOU for sharing ❤️. it's such a simple change but i am already SO excited to start implementing it, mainly for homework purposes, "i'm *choosing* to do my homework instead of playing video games because i want to get good grade, i want to be proud of my GPA at the end of the semester
That's fantastic! I'd also suggest going even deeper than that "I want to" and figure out what you're really gaining by doing the homework. What are you learning, what skills do you develop, what's the homework building to? A particular career perhaps, some goals or values? You can create nice big webs of "I want to"s so that you can map out motivation and things that matter to you. Just imagine me asking "Okay, and why is that important?" to each answer you give, prompting you to go deeper and deeper. That can be a great way to uncover your deeper values.
@@rainydayaudios7754 oh my gosh, that's such a good idea, thank you 😭💕! the part about imagining you asking me why what im doing is important is particularly motivating because it reminds me WHY what I'm doing is important and also gives me the feeling that i'm not alone, that like, i've got you rooting for me too, thank you so much Rainy 😭💕💙.
This is all so true. Made me think of intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation that I learned about in psychology class. Internal motivation and the way we talk to ourselves ought to be empowering and make every effort to help us recognize our agency and self-efficacy in every situation.
I love these kind of videos, I listen to them a few times to process and understand the idea better then usually end up telling friends or family about it so it can help them too!
This his been sooooo insightful! Thanks, Rainy! 🙌🏽❤ I love the concept of being able to CHOOSE where we pour our time, effort & resources on. The Locus of Control really is thought-provoking. I like the way you explained it, here. And can we just *pause* to appreciate how soothing & calm your voice is. For some reason, you made me think of James McAvoy (Charles Xavier from the X-men) 😍 yes, your voices bear a stark resemblance. Keep up the good work! XO
I've listened to this a lot over the past 24 hours as I've been struggling to concentrate on writing up my final art history paper for the semester. It's funny (read: annoying) how hellbent on procrastinating my brain is when I deliberately returned to school at 39 to pursue art history as a minor (majoring in French), although I suppose with all the current distractions that are entirely out of my control, it's understandable. Listening to you has helped me gently and compassionately remind my recalcitrant brain that I made the choice to pursue a degree out of love for the subjects and that making the extra effort to focus will be worth it. I'm so, so glad I joined your Patreon, Rainy.
I'm really glad it helps! I've got a couple of audios that are designed to listen to as we each work on assignments or whatever, so you may find those helpful. Also remember that procrastination is typically about avoidance, often avoiding the discomfort that accompanies a fear of failure or the experience of being challenged, having to do things we're not good at. A lot of people are avoiding the ambient stress that is happening at the moment, but it might be good to ask yourself what you're really avoiding. If discomfort is coming up when you're trying to work, stick with that discomfort and interview it, see what it's about. Getting to the root of that can help you address the issue, often by challenging negative beliefs or thoughts and trying to shift your perspective about something. For instance, as a mature age student you might be uncomfortable at the idea of doing something new and challenging that runs counter to your well-established identity, you may associate study as a childish thing or as a chore or unpleasant task, possibly based on previous negative experiences with study, etc. Lots of things it could be, but only you can find out what!
You've really helped me In ways I can't explain and this has helped even more which I didn't think was possible .I've been struggling to keep up with work and lack of motivation to do it so I keep procrastinating and say to myself I'll do it tommorow and I do but do barely anything but this has really helped because you don't get to do everything you want or like in life but if you think of the underlying factors or what you would actually like to get from it things that will benefit you then it helps to motivate you. I'll probably try and finish my assignment now thank you rainy ❤ beautiful human
I'm really glad! This one may help with that too: ua-cam.com/video/uuwxMRQSm3A/v-deo.html. And you can try and get your work done along with me here: ua-cam.com/video/-PWe8PfbSwo/v-deo.html
I did actually found this video very helpful. It's ironic because even though I know this, it's my bad habit and go to way, to stay in my comfort zone when it comes to social situations😅. I think I'm getting better though and that's what counts 😊 baby steps
You're right, saying I can't is very black and white. It's nicer to think of why you want to do something rather than what will happen if you don't. If there's anything I love, it's the way we use language which is why I switched from applying for a law course for uni to applying for English language and literature instead.. I did that yesterday. Kind of off topic but I took your advice and searched for my core values and it's been super helpful. I choose to do an English degree because I know it's going to be fulfilling to study and for the first time I'm excited to go to university. I've only recently started to make bigger decisions for myself and it feels so nice. One of the things that makes my depression and anxiety worse is feeling like I have no control so I'm definitely going to put this audio into practice

When I say "I [choose] to do this" rather than "I [have] to do this" it feels less burdening and overwhelming! So, I agree that it IS empowering :)
you're very self aware, I like that about you.
Hope you're doing good, lovely Rainy. I love these kind of videos. I would listen to you all day. Thank you.
