    I love non-aesthetic journals. It's more real to me, the messy and unorganized look of it is more personal and more genuine. I enjoy the authentic kind where not everything have to be neat, organized, and aesthetically pleasing. This inspires me more to be true to myself and love my own creation. ❤

    I want to tell you that I really enjoy your videos. The reason why is because I am not a creative person and watching your simplicity has made me feel so comfortable in doing things this way. I used to think that I had to be creative with stickers and deco in order to have a pretty journal and/or planner. Glad to know I was wrong! lol

      I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the videos and feeling comfortable with a simpler style. It's all about finding what works for you! After all, that's what makes it fun as it's for YOU! And I'm so happy that you're feeling inspired to embrace your own way of journaling and planning. Keep doing what feels right for you, and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with me! Yes, you were wrong..but your way of wanting to do it is so right! Happy journaling! 😊

    Omg I was just thinking last night how much I CRAVE genuine content on places like insta. Now it's almost 100% curated stuff, everything is laid out like an ad or something. I just want to see how real people really use their notebooks. I don't want to see something made specifically for content. And it's so hard to find the people who *are* sharing their real lives, because the algorithm hides them. Remember when social media was about connecting and not about selling? 😑

    You say it has no aesthetic but it actually does. But it's natural, not because you meticulously curated the pages. I am not a "flair" user. I tried, but stickers and washi and stamps, it was all too much. I just wanted to use a notebook. If I had a sticker because my puppy and I ate an orange or something, I stick it in. But I like that you don't go out of your way to make these spreads. I pause Instagram and Facebook a lot so I am personally glad that you update your UA-cam.

      You are right - While seeing "the best" is nice, sometimes we need to remember that not everything and everyday offers "the best," but that it still okay, too. So is life. 💕

    I absolutely agree with you that one should share what they can offer on video, their own styles, experiments and methods. Too many times I've seen videos that are repeating what others have been doing, so many times I've seen people apologising for what they think others will mind them doing or not doing on their videos. I hope more content creators can really think through what and why they want to share their journal for, and be more specific and confident in what they want to talk about of their journals.

    I appreciate your videos exactly because your journalling reflects the wonderful chaos of life. It feels more raw, and more real because of it. It's a huge, _huge_ breath of fresh air and relief when so much of the journal community focuses on what other people think of how their journal looks, when journalling should be a direct line to the individual's inner mind, I feel. Of course there's nothing wrong with wanting a journal to be pretty, but it should be for _you_ and never for others.
    Raw journalling is an amazing skill and hobby, and I really hope people find their way to it instead of giving up journalling entirely, like I see so many of the journal community doing. It's heartbreaking to think that it becomes a source of stress for so many, trying to keep up with the social media game. Thank you for sharing your journal life with the internet and reminding people that it doesn't need to be perfect and aesthetic for the sake of others. 💚

    It is fantastic that you show a real world scenario of journaling and planning. Most videos I see are either idealised Insta-ready or more or les unboxing of notebooks and journals. Honestly how often can I watch on what a Moleskin weekly looks like? 😂 I'm much mere interested in ways to use these "tools". That inspiration can come from something that worked for you or didn't. Just seeing the unfiltered process gives me much more than a perfect result.

    You're absolutely right about it being hard not to compare. We just have to remember that if we make our things look like what someone else did then it's not truly ours. No one should do ANYTHING for "likes" or even to "be liked". After we die, very few people will want our written rambles. I just recently went through my journals and re read them and condensed what was actually worth noting into a larger book. I will still ramble in scrap notebooks to get it out of my system then burn them after I went to my large journal and put down what's important. I have a commonplace notebook, self love, magical, etc as well..

    I love this video so much. Every few months i get this urge to mix up my journaling, but always end up back in my stalogy because it is just pure joy for me. I do like stickers and washi, but i feel like they are always loved and show how lived in they are. I share all kinds of things on IG from journaling, dailies, books, and i recently started sharing some art journaling im experimenting with. I totally had the "should i be sharing this" moment because it wasnt getting enough likes. Then i said "self... who cares, you do you and share what you want". Im almost done with my current stalogy so i was like maybe i need something new and shiny, but why? This video completely helped me put it in perspective. And omg that zine! I can not wait! Thank you so much for sharing!!

    Omg yes you’re so right. Journals and diaries and filling up notebooks have always been a huge part of my life since I got my first diary in my birthday as a child. And I’ve wanted to share this but I’ve always felt not legit because I thought I was not aesthetic enough (although “non aesthetic” notebooks are beautiful to me ! For me journaling is mostly writing, and collages and scrapbooking are different , so I don’t understand why we see full on collage pages with no writing under “journal” but maybe that’s my mother tongue confusing me lol. And full on written notebooks are beautiful to me as well), I thought my notebooks are all over the place from all the interests I have…
    And finally I decided to just screw it 😂 your channel, that I already follow on my personal account, made me realise that there is a community out there willing to share and exchange no matter the look of it.
    You’re such an inspiration Michelle, thanks for never giving up !❤

    loved this video so much !! one of the reasons I started my youtube channel was because I couldn't find anyone keeping a media journal the way I did and everyone always says you should make the content you want to watch. so I wanted to share in case it could inspire anyone else or spark something that resonates with my journaling. it's my favorite part of the community- being exposed to all the different styles and using that to build on top of my own.

    I've switched to a 580 pages notebook, but it turns out what I had totally underestimated is how the big stack of pages -- particularly when you start using the book -- is not particularly pleasant to use, because there is so much height difference between the two sides. I had to place an entire other notebook under the open book to level the writing field and make it even enough to write on. Considering that I had switched into the thick book in order to cut down on stuff to take along, that sort of defeated the point ...

    • @SeaweedKisses
      @SeaweedKisses  7 місяців тому +4

      whoa! 580 is quite a thick notebook! I can see how challenging it would be to use it as it filled up. The thickest I'll use is 400 pgs.

    Oh yeah back in the 90’s journals were BLANK BOOKS that were only sold in Hallmark stores here in the states. I’ve used “blank books” for years. I’ve had ones for every subject matter…one for GIFTS that I bought for everyone year in year out. My adult sons love looking back at the TOYS they got for birthdays and Xmas to remember what was popular when they were kids. I also always carry a “pocket” size blank book to write down everything I don’t want to forget! I use my phone now for grocery shopping, reminders and calendars. I no longer bullet journal or use a planner because I’m retired and focus more on memory albums and art/junk journaling. My boys said they would not be responsible for all my books once I’m gone 😂😂 too funny…but my grand daughters want ALL my blank books and stationery. I still use my MIDORI travelers notebooks but have turned them into memory books now instead of planners etc

    Frankly speaking....as this is a chat session here... I find people mix up Scrapbooking and Journaling today and I used to write... did not know the actual term 'journaling' back then...about 15 years back when I was a young teen. but the thing is that, my notebooks or diaries were read by others ... this thing happened to me a lot. Though I used to carry it around, still, people and sometimes my parents would read them and react to my thoughts. This slowly took me out of writing and specifically journaling...
    Now when I see several journaling motivations, scrapbooking...I really want to start again...but you know, those past experiences were so bad that they left a scar in my life.... No matter how much I want to, I just cannot start....it has become a emotional hindrance. I know I am a grown up today but everytime I think of writing, I feel like they will be taken away again and read and judged etc etc.
    I have so much to say...yet I have nothing...
    You know something, I have all kinds of journaling supplies one might need so that if....in case...if I suddenly feel the urge....I dont have to go and find for things....I have my diary. Untouched. NEW.... Sitting in front of me.... still I dont write anymore...
    It was humiliating, traumatising for me in the past, which, trust me, I cannot shake off....
    I suffer from emotional rollercoaster, depression, anxiety today.... May be I wouldn't have had to had things been different....
    that's it.
    thank you for your time if you have read this. God Bless you.

    13:35 my struggle and my system LOL. I try to categorize my journals but i find myself starting too many notebooks yet not finishing them as i prioritize the new journal anyway. I'm currently casually commonplacing on an A6 journal of 300+ pages. Found a cheap one online since most brands I watch youtubers use aren't accessible to me, and those that are on the shops are just out of my budget. It's still a mess tho. I struggle with using tabs but also forget to use an index to keep track of the content. I just have the habit of scheming through it.

    Thanks a lot Michelle for your vids. You helped so much of us to feel free in our journals.
    🫶. My moleskine expanded is very precious for me, he's my BFF. (In french, a journal is masculin🙈)
    I write Everything inside. I also love crafting : collecting random papers, cute things or stationery, cutting, sticking...I do it in my TNR, zero writing, just papers and random things. TNR are not confortable for writing (for me). I see my TNR like a Space full of triggers. It reminds how humans can express and feel things in various ways. I'm not looking for aesthetic. I just feel the flow. And that's okay ? 🥹
    I Don't know why , but I separate crafty/visual journals (TNR) and writing one (moleskine). When It's Time to write, I really need a blank page. I feel free and not disturbed. My brain really need an "empty" space for writing, no stickers, no pictures. Just me and my little World of words.
    Thanks a lot Michelle. 🫰💖
    PS : Hope my english is not too bad 🙈 (sometimes It's hard too find the good word who's matching with your feeling.)

    I really enjoy your videos for the most part; however, I hate when people go into rants about authenticity. Who is to say that those who create beautiful aesthetically pleasing journals are not being authentic to their journaling style? Some people are just talented enough to have beautiful handwriting and creative enough to be able to make beautiful journaling pages while still being authentic. Everyone has their own style and should not be judged by others who don’t prefer their style. I think your journaling is great, but I also like the “beautiful” or aesthetic journaling too. It does not have to be one or the other. All journaling is great equally.

      You are right. That's why I attempted to correct my wording in that clip. What I really meant to say was that I wished to see others that had similar style as me where "mundane" scribblings and random sketches/writings/scribbles were shared, if any, as well. I wanted to connect with others that had a similar style to mine, however that is "labeled" or identified as.

    I loved this video so much, and really all your videos (thanks for them!) but sadly adverts every other minute kind of took away the enjoyment somewhat. I really do love how "raw" you are and how much you remember and help out all of us that don't have loads of money to spend on expensive things. I don't know if the adverts were your choice or youtube's but I hope they might be a bit less frequent sometimes.

    👋🏽Great video! You were right on point about social media. It can be discouraging if you don’t get the follows and likes. Especially from people you follow, like & comment on their posts. 💚 But I am grateful for the few that do follow me. I don’t post a lot of actual spreads, but I do find contentment in creating them. 💚

    What’s your process of putting your zines together? Do you have an outside printer make them ?

    • @SeaweedKisses
      @SeaweedKisses  7 місяців тому

      At first I started off using my own printer, cutting and stapling them myself. But now I have an outside printing business do it as my pages use so much color ink vs just black & white😅

    How lucky you are to have a moleskin. Here in Mexico city is way too expensive. Midori is impossible to get without going inside amazon.

      80gsm. The pages hold well with not only basic ballpoint pens, but also dark gel inks and fountain pens.

    Just because you couldn’t find something doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. The planning community has been huge for well over 15 years, and much of that “planning” is and was more like journaling and scrapbooking.

    I have a question regarding ”gratitude-journaling”. Im thinking i wanna start doing it, by one sentence a day. However. Lets say…im grateful for…being alive. Im probably grateful for that every single day. I cant write the same sentence every single day (or even twice a week or so). What do i write?

    • @libraincarnate
      @libraincarnate 7 місяців тому +5

      Get more specific, and detailed about that day, or that moment. I'm grateful to be alive to see the cherry blossoms bloom today. I'm grateful for the warmth of my first mug of tea in the morning. I grateful for the space my journal gives me to express gratitude 😂

    • @buteverythinghurts
      @buteverythinghurts 7 місяців тому

      @@libraincarnate thank you 😄 are you supposed to come up with new things every day? Forever? (sorry...im oddly specific sometimes) 😆

    • @SeaweedKisses
      @SeaweedKisses  7 місяців тому +7

      If you don't feel like writing the same sentence, consider expanding on it. Here are some examples that come to mind that may help:
      - i am grateful to be alive
      - i am grateful for the clean water i drink everyday
      - i am grateful for the eyes and ears that allow me to connect with the world every day
      - i am grateful for youtube videos that inspire me to create/see other parts of the world/discover new places, etc
      - i am grateful for reading fun books that stretch my imagination
      - i am grateful for the new day to try/see/experience new things
      - i am grateful for the meals that fuel my body

    Thank you! I needed this right now. Also I've never heard of the zine before other than (sorry, I've not been a consistent follower although I've known about you for years) a single mention previously which had me confused. Such a great thing you got going there and very inspirational. I hope the sales go well and many will find inspiration within themselves to fill those beautiful pages 🫶🏼
