  • I'm not sure if vocals get any more pretty than this! Susanne Sundfør sings Undercover live. Such a beautiful song.
Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” UA-cam Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. We’ll even take some time and revisit some of the old parts of our past that have disappeared from today’s shelves and most people’s memories, I call it Bob's Cabinet of Curiosity. Let’s relive those moments together! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking time out of your day to check in. I appreciate it more than I can say here.

Hi Bob. Great reaction again! I see that the Norse saga continues...LOL This is Susanne's own song. She makes her own music always. She is a great singer and performer. There are some similarites between Sigrid and Susanne in that regard.
I'll let you in on MY personal favorite by her. It's her song "When The Lord", which is the soundtrack to a documentary called "Selvportrett" (Self portrait) about a close friend of her. Her name is Lene Marie Fossen and she was one of Norway's leading photographers. She was struggling with anorexia her whole life, to the extent that she never reached puberty. Her body didn't have the resources. Just be aware that this song probably WILL make you tear up. It is just beautiful in every way, and one that will stick with you for some time. That's what art is all about, isn't it ?
I'll give you the link here, in hope that you will react to it : ua-cam.com/video/1oWFCkcdmZI/v-deo.html (have some tissues at hand..)

She played a concert in Nidarosdomen cathedral a few years before Aurora did, had a grown man in tears for more than an hour... Check out It's All Gone Tomorrow (live) and, as many have suggested, When The Lord.

Yes, the municipalities all offer free music school in the afternoons for all kids who want to learn to play an instrument or sing, and learn to read notes, from age 6-7 to 16. And many high schools (which are also free and you're entitled to get entry to one) also have art classes where they teach acting, dance and music.
Susanne went to such a high school (the very same that I went to) and this school produces new stars on a national level and some international, every year.

Hi Bob, it's just great to follow you. You always have such great artists that I don't know yet. I had heard the name once - but never heard or seen anything from her. A beautiful voice that can also sing powerfully. And another Norwegian. The winters are just too long there. They have too much time to practice. 😄😁🤣
    I checked on wiki:
Susanne Sundfør was born in Norway on March 19, 1986, which means she is now 36 years old.
She is a sinter songwriter. Since 2007, Sundfør has won the Spellemannprisen five times in different categories, a Norwegian music prize that is awarded annually and can be seen as the Norwegian counterpart to the US Grammy. In addition, she was nominated several times. She plays the guitar and piano and accompanies herself on the e-piano at concerts. In the music she combines classical elements, instrumental versions and synthesizers with her singing. She has released 6 albums (2007 - 2017).
After that there are no entries in the wiki. I'll see some of her over the weekend if I have time.
I recommend the song AURORA - Everything Matters. Aurora sings with Pomme, a French singer-songwriter. The last part is in French. Pomme wrote and sang it. I met Pomme through this song.
    - Aurora x Pomme - Live on RHYTHM BY MODZIK - ua-cam.com/video/yX8bYwl9rKc/v-deo.html
She's worth a look too. Here is some information in case you are interested:
Pomme was born on August 2nd, 1996 in Lyon, France. She is a singer, musician and web video producer. She received a very religious upbringing. She began writing and composing songs at the age of six. She learned the cello at the age of eight and by the age of 16 was already performing in bars and pubs in Lyon. She has acquired many musical skills by being self-taught. She has released 2 albums (2017 and 2018). The second won an award. Themes such as nature, love, death and other social issues with a romantic connection play an important role in Pomme's songs and albums. In her love songs, she repeatedly refers to her homosexuality.
    - Pomme "Les Oiseaux" - ua-cam.com/video/hpNtME-e0XY/v-deo.html - Pomme plays an autoharp in a church
    - On Brûlera - ua-cam.com/video/ySAsCIyp90Y/v-deo.html - It's about lesbian love

Always great to see someone discover Susanne, IMO she's Norway's most talented singer-songwriter. She started in 2005 and has been an inspiration for many other female artists. Her music has a wide range, from intimate acoustic songs to electronic dance, and as you saw she's an amazing live performer with her bone-chilling voice. I have a whole lot of recommendations:
    - The Silicone Veil (Live Skavlan 2012 is the best version)
    - The Brothel (Live At Parkteatret is IMO the best version, the studio version is great too)
    - Memorial (arguably her best song, a 10 minute masterpiece that really shows her talent)
    - White Foxes (her greatest solo hit)
    - The Amorous Humphrey Plugg (a Scott Walker cover, live on BBC proms)
    - Mountaineers (featuring John Grant)
    - The Sound of War (Live at Spellemann)
    - No One Believes In Love Anymore
    - Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør - Ice Machine (Depeche Mode cover) Live on Lydverket
    - M83 & Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion (theme song of the Tom Cruise movie)
    - Slowly
    - The Dance
    - Rome (Live At Parkteatret, a very unusual song)

LOve your reaction to Susanne, she is amazing and makes fab melodies, with deep lyrics. Now you've done Sigrid and Susanne on letter S, then there are Silje, Silya, Sissel and Sval still to come (?) ... Pulsar77 below pretty much sums up my favorites but may I suggest you do 'The silicone Veil` from a concert in my old classroom from second grade which now serves as a top notch sound studio - ua-cam.com/video/MTz1aGXL41c/v-deo.html . Again it is just her voice and she plays a grand piano.

Great, but there is an other version from Oslo Opera with a more focus on her voice, a more subdued accompaniament with orchestra. And I am still waiting for Sissel Kyrkjebø with Slow Down/Tabernacle Choir

Still waiting for more Alice in Chains, April is the anniversary of the death of the beloved lead singer Layne Staley. He died April 5th 2002 he was only 34. I requested (It Ain't Like that Anymore) live at The Moore Theater. Would be amazing if you could do a reaction to them soon. I promise you won't be disappointed. RIP Layne.

all her songs are about sadness, i think. music for people in trouble, as the title of one of her records says. and no one find better lyrics for all this sadness life has to offer sometimes, but she is never pathetic. listen to "when", a love song about a toxic relationship

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind all of her records are brilliant. the nordic soul is melancholic, i guess. the brothel live at cigalle, and turkish delight from the same concert. silencer, beautiful murder song. her album silicon veil contains also some of her most beautiful songs, like white foxes and when. when is probably my favourite song by her. and, of course, when the lord. this song is a must, a song you'll never forget. listen to it and read the provided information below it afterwards. i cannot find a song more emotional than this one. and it's not her voice, its the visual power in combination with her lyrics. susanne appears in the video for a moment sitting at the hospital bed. just do this song and see what it does to you

Great reactions and welcome to Scandinavian music. I hope you can react to Myrkur with Tor i Helheim (m.ua-cam.com/video/hFjwW8Ranrg/v-deo.html). Myrkur blend Scandinavian folkmusic with pop and metal. A great Danish singer that can show you the music tradition from our countries.
Also you should try Eviør with Falling free. She is a singer from Faroe Island.
    Take care ❤️

Beautiful ... a gifted artist. I highly recommend that you react to Eva Cassidy's live performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow (ua-cam.com/video/2rd8VktT8xY/v-deo.html). Sadly, she died in 1996 at age 33 of melanoma. She left a treasure trove of performances that will touch your heart.
