- Palworld and Pokemon have been the hottest debate in the gaming world and while there are many designs that you can say that Palworld stole from Pokemon, the game Palworld is nothing like Pokemon at all. It might come down to Pokemon taking legal action towards Palworld, but I personally think that the existence of Palworld is healthy for Pokemon as a whole and heres why!

The biggest thing I hate that people use against Palworld is the sheep. Like... it's such a basic and simple sheep design. Same with Wooloo. White cottonball sheep, omg they're stealing. I can see the Cobalion looking one, but Anubis when it's literally also based on the actual Anubis like Lucario is also a bit much?
Even the Cobalion one ends in color similarities cause others then that nothing about Fenglope matches with Cobalion.

one of the most impressive things is the differences in behaviour between each "Pal" in the world, whenever you see a new one your never quite sure how they will act, some are aggressive predators some may hunt in packs others are totally passive some stop at nothing to flee turning any catch into a mad chase, others turn and fight when cornered some will rally to a friends defense some even pretend to sleep to ambush you if you get to close and all are tied to the time of day in a not strictly Day night Cycle like there's a lot of effort here.
From what I'm understanding, pokemon made the statement because people were supposedly badgering them. However, I believe someone actually modded their Palworld to have actual pokemon designs and had a video up and taken down... which a few may believe that is one of the reasons for the statement from pokemon. This is what I heard so I could be wrong.
The modder tried to profit from the mod, so that got slapped within 8 hours.
And yes, I figure TPC got tired of the badgering.

I'm not sure if palworld and Pokémon are direct competition, the gameplay is not similar, maybe only in design aspects.
The gameplay of Palworld is a bit different to the mainline Pokémon games, but extremely similar to Legends Arceus. The main premise of the gameplay (catch elemental monsters in balls and battle with them) is also identical.
They are direct competition in the same way that CoD and Halo are in direct competition. The mechanics and structure of the games aren't completely identical, but it would be silly to suggest that they aren't similar in some significant ways.

Didn't Palworld already started development before Gen 9 (or gen 8)? If that's the case, Pokémon Company can't sue since it was already being talked about widely via internet. And they would have to sue other gaming companies that did a similar genre to them (Spectrobes, Dino King, Fossil Hunters, etc).
Yes, it started development before gen 10, but i don't think Nintendo/Pokemon Company can do anything about trailers though, since the game hadn't been officially released yet and as such was just a concept.
It started as Craftopia's monster collecting system.
Considering how fast Nintendo's lawyers are it's easy to assume that if they could do anything about this they would have done it by now.
I think they never intended to sue, but the tweet that went viral that (presumably) exposed the used of Pokémon 3D model assets as parts of some of the Pals models probably attracted their interest.
Yeah, I remember first hearing about Palworld at the end of 2022, and it was definitely being worked on before Scarlet and Violet came out

Better yet, the second episode of the anime, the guns weren't cencored even in the English dub, which is wild when you think about how 4kids kept erasing guns or turning them into water guns and such. Even James' rifle (which wasn't a bazooka, it was a Carl Gustav. The kind of rife that shot _84_ mm bullets) in the same episode had its firing censored even though it shot ice to begin with.
Taking a design aspect from one fictional monster and creating your own monster with inspired designs is not copyright infringement. Copyright infringement would be if they just straight up put in a Charmander, or a Staraptor.
Combining design aspects from more than one monster from another franchise is also not copyright infringement as long as it is clearly a different design as a whole.
Nintendo can't touch Palworld unless they straight up put in Pokémon.
Although... That Luxray-looking one is kind of sus. As well as the Cinderace lookalike. They should probably rework those designs a bit more. 😂
The palword monster have a different color and concept. but, the shape and silhouette of the pal monster are too similar that can be obvious that it is a copy of other Pokemon. they should at least change shape to make it different.
Boltmane isn't actually in the game.
They probably thought they were going a bit too far with the similarity to Luxray and decided to leave it out, possibly permanently or possibly while they rework its design to not just be "shiny Luxray with pointy ears and a bindi".
In all Honesty, I don't think Palworld would have been as big as it is Without the Pokémon Fanatics ranting about "STOLEN DESIGNS" which 80-90% of the creatures they claim are rip-offs/stolen are utter BS, it's just them using similar Themes as those Pokémon, Pokémon doesn't own those Themes they're everyone's to use when designing Monsters.

Tbf there are Pals that look like rip offs of existing Pokemon, this video clearly shows at least three that are slightly different Eevee clones, a Luxray clone, something that's like a cross between Meganium and Goodra, one that looks like Lucario but more Egyptian, a Cinderace and Leafeon fusion and something that clearly has Galarian Meowth's face on it, it's body is just different enough that you might not notice.
I'm not against Palworld, I haven't played it though, so what I've seen is from people who are "promoting" it for lack of a better word. I think it looks like a good game but honestly some of the designs are just modified Pokemon and that's wrong, there are a ton of IP's that are considered Pokemon clones, i.e. Yokai Watch, Digimon but they have very distinct "monsters" that don't really resemble Pokemon designs, whereas Palworld have very suspiciously similar looking designs.
Not only that but I've heard some in game music that sounds a lot like Zelda music, which means that they could be stealing music too. I'm happy they're looking into it, because I don't mind a game like Palworld existing as it might cause Pokemon to up their games but not if they're stealing from other IPs.
People complaining about pal world should hear about monster hunter and I genuinely don’t believe the designs are taken from Pokémon like omg i didn’t know Pokémon owned the copyright to sheep and serpents or yellow dudes I mean does Pokémon have copyright to Fujin and riajin too(also the designs being stolen is apparently lies/misinformation).

the criticisms for some of the pal designs are completely fair and valid, though ive seen some comparisons that are unfair just because they were based on the same animal or creature.
the hate for the game is blown way out of proportion though. monster taming/catching has been a genre since before pokemon, so its unfair to call that part a “ripoff.” and, as mentioned in the video, the gameplay is completely different lmao. the hate people have for the game is extremely unwarranted.

Monster Taming Genre does exist yes I'm a Pokemon Fan that both supports Monster Taming Genre and Pokemon which I grew up with both Fossil Fighters on the DS which definitely needs to make a comeback and Pokemon but I would say Pokemon definitely needs some improvements.

Also the more attention you call to it... negative or positive... you ultimately are just advertising Palworld. That's right controversy is one of the launching pads that causes games like this to grow in popularity. Look at Hogwart's Legacy as a fine example. No matter how much they tried to drag it through the mud... it succeeded BECAUSE they tried to drag it through the mud. ... and it's fun.

Lately people been going into palworld steam forums. Just to cause drama and claiming on nintendo to sue palworld. They also trying to look for any reason to insult palworld game play. They bring up all the stupidest thing you can think of.
As a fan of both franchises, I'm just sad that the drama has gotten this bad.

There are 4 Pals that are over the line for me - the Antelope/Cobalion, Verdash-Cinderace, Cremis/Eevee, Direhowl/Lycanroc. Then there 2 that treads on the acceptable line (The Lati) and the Goodra. The rest are reaching honestly. I have seen people complain about Lamball (The Sheep), being to similair to Wooloo, but honestly, what are you gonna do with a sheep anyways.
Okay I have defend to make here:
Antelope and Cobalion have no similarities between other than the color cause if try to compare shiny Cobalion with Antelope it looks very different, and Antelope's coloration is based on a kirin from Chinese mythology.
How Is direhowl/lycanroc look similar to you other than the fact they are based on wolves like what part does it look like a copy to you.
Jetragon is different enough to call it inspired rather than a copy.
As for the goodra+meganium+lilygant it's just a goofy looking dragon, eyes don't fall under copyright and neither do flowers.

Pretty much everything apart from the rocks in lycanroc's mane and the exact shape of the light fur patch on their faces. Their overall fur pattern is almost identical, and they both have white spiky manes (real wolves, and most cartoon depictions of wolves, do not have manes). The similarity is incredibly obvious.
You're right about most of the other examples though. Cobalion and Fenglope are both based on deer, and have a similar colour scheme, but (unlike with direhowl and lycanroc) their body shape isn't almost identical. It's likely that both are partially based on historical depictions of Kirin, rather than that Fenglope is directly copied from Cobalion.

@@nathangamble125look up direwolf from monster rancher or Ranga from Tensura then make an argument about copying cause both of there designs came first and no fenglope is based on Chinese mythology whereas cobalion is based on the three musketeers, cobalion's body doesn't even resemble a deer cause I don't remember deers having human like legs.
I mean, they really shouldn't. If they won't let us emulate, let others expand on the idea of monster catching games, and they won't fix the myriad of problems with their current Pokémon titles, then how are they surprised that this is the result?😤

I think this is a good thing for Pokemon to improve their games in the future. But if they go the route of trying to shut this game down, then tell us to buy more of their low-quality games and like it, then this would be the lowest they have ever sunk as a company, and they are pretty low already.
Some of them even take harvest moon animals and the chicken from Zelda and the penguin from Mario 64 😂

Kid me watching Pokémon followed by Digimon in the following timeslot felt like the closest of the two being in competition (I think on YTV)
YGO being competition is interesting as the anime is to mainly sell TCG while Pokémon is meant to sell the games + TCG and other merch
Hot take: if they want to compare the two games dont compare SV and Palworld, do Arceus and Palworld because that one is surprisingly much higher quality for some reason and SV was really rushed.
Legends Arceus also has real-time combat and crafting, similar to Palworld, while S+V do not.
This is exactly how I look at it too. Palworld is just creating competition for Pokemon. It's a big slap on the face to GameFreak saying "if you aren't going to do what the fans want then others like me will". I don't really care too much if Palworld is AI generated or if they're desings are too simular to Pokemon, I'm just happy to see GameFreak and the Pokemon company get competition because for the last decade or two I'm pretty sure their mentality when making games is "it doesn't matter if it's good or not, it will sell regardless".
I don't want Pokemon to fail, Pokemon has so much potential but doesn't take advantage of it because they've gotten too used to just making the same games over and over with less and less effort. Having another company come in and start making competition will make Pokemon games better in the future especially if they start seeing their sale numbers drop.
Also: Pokemon's composers are being blessed with the classic composers' wisdom. This... Palworld hasn't even a single soundtrack that drags your attention.

The funny thing about Nintendo making a statement, the trailer and stuff has been out for a LONG TIME and they didn't do anything, and it looks like they will continue to do nothing.
Nintendo will not sue PocketPal. This game was in development for 3 years. If they had ANYTHING that PP could have been sued for, Nintendo would have done so. Just look at how swiftly they go after fan games, rom hacks and even Pokemon themed mods.

There’s a literal playlist o with over 54 Pals you can find, we’ve known about this game for more than two years. I really can’t see the problem with the game.
It’s unoriginal? Most gaming studios, make the same danm game over and over again or just make crappier copies of more successful that don’t go far. Indi Games pretty much make the more interesting and better games
Sure Palworld isn’t original, but it’s still fun and despite being an early access game, it’s still fun to play and it’s world is something we know very little of because it’s not finished yet. No one said anything about *Cassette Beasts* which is basically a Pokémon game but different setting and story.
Also, take Pokémon Uranium, a ROM hack that Pokémon didn’t like, there was a Pokémon mod for Palworld that was immediately shot down. If Palworld did steal from Pokémon they wouldn’t wait for this game to basically beat its peak of early access and then do something about it. Why wait when so many already love it despite its current state?

Ark is almost directly comparable, far beyond the level that Pokemon is. Everything from the base building mechanic, leveling up and unlocking system, and the need to grind natural resources to build up slowly.
The designs and pal collecting are obviously in large part based off pre-existing Pokémon designs, it’s what they clearly wanted to do as fans of Pokémon themselves.
But no, they haven’t “stole” anything. They took heavy inspiration from various Pokémon, but as much as to fall into copyright infringement.
It’s not in competition with Pokémon, it’s a totally different game that brings in very different people with very different focus groups. Palworld is if anything is just a survival game with aspects parodying Pokémon.
This is a stupid argument, just play the game and you’d see little to no similarities outside of pal design and having a capturing mechanic.
The thing is Pokémon already made basically everything yes some designs could be taken or be inspired but it would be extremely difficult for Palworld to make anything “unique” because you can find almost everything in Pokémon designs.
For me, the ones that are over the line are the Antelope/Cobalion (I mean, its the same concept, which is fine, however, it having the exact same color scheme makes it a problem for me). The Green Cinderace, the white fox (Its literally just Gigamax Eevee) and Direhowl (Its literally Lycanroc with a color variation).

@@TS17ADS You're right about Fenglope and Cobalion, but regarding Direhowl, what the fuck are _you_ talking about? Why would either Lycanroc or Direhowl be based on a design from monster rancher? Even if it was true that they were both copied from monster rancher (which just pushes the accusation of copying to someone else, rather than actually resolving it), Lycanroc and Direhowl are much more similar to each other than either of them is to the design from monster rancher - Lycanroc and Direhowl don't have horns, and the wolf from monster rancher is light grey all over instead of having dark and light patches.

something i love about pal world if you deside to fight pal vs pal only it looks like a fight from the show pokemon there's doges that aren't rng based some times i looks like your pal uses a move to counter attack it just feels a lot more fun

Looking back in all the past competitors it’s kinda easy to see how pokemon thrived against past competitors
Digimon as a franchise was so diverse with how many tv series it had between the og series and data squad and the animes were its real selling point and it didn’t help that the games themselves weren’t as straightforward in gameplay as pokemon
Yu gi oh definitely did and some can still argue have a rivalry with them but not as to as an extent with digimon as it’s main focus is a card game and not a video game plus a lot of ppl grew up being fans of both so Konami and game freak never really antagonised each other as a result
The only rival that had real potential to step up against pokemon before palworld was og bakugan, the fact that it combined features of multiple different series such as yu gi oh and pokemon to create such an innovative card game was amazing back in 2007-9 but bandai had no clue how to market the series especially in the west, the anime itself was imo the best out of all of the animes listed here even pokemon but the more mature approach it had of straight up death and a teenage cast obviously wasn’t going to sell well with kids which is a shame because it had such great potential
Palworld being a straight up copy in graphics and looks of pokemon is how they’ve been able to succeed were bakugan failed despite having literal guns and violence and honestly pokemon may have some real competition now

Gamefreak is just embarrased because palworld is better than Scarlet/Violet in almost every single way, and it's not even out of early access. Its not a problem to rip off a company that doesnt put any effort into their games anymore. If anything its gonna force them to do better. This was done with a 9 person team. I feel like it's too hyped up. It is something new and exciting, yes, but once you've collected every pal and become overleveled, people will get tired of it I think.

They've released a roadmap and they are planning to add pvp, trading, new islands to explore and new pals. So there's definately more content and options when it comes to stuff like breeding in the future

Not gonna lie, I’d love to see them sell new worlds and expansions like how Ark does. Since they made bank, hopefully they can bring more creators in to make slightly more original designs to help with make them stand out a little more from pre-existing Pokemon.
well... thats like finishing a pokemon game, or beating the ender dragon (i would make and ark reference but ive never played it). Of course people stop playing games once they finish them, that's how it works

I’m in the same bout in that I couldn’t get into Minecraft so I’m gonna pass on Palworld. As far as it being good for the industry, that all depends on whether or not it beats the allegations if things do get taken to court. There is good reason to be concern cause of the company’s past and CEO’s previous comments about A.I.

TPC has not done anything directly to Palworld the game nor Pocket Pair the company yet.
I’m just sick of the Palworld vs Pokémon shit. I grew up a Pokémon fan when I was born back in ‘97 and it’s still my absolute favorite franchise and I STILL love the new games. I was 100% excited for Palworld when it released because I also happen to love survival games. They’re one of my favorite genres of video games. Now that it’s out I haven’t gotten the time to play it much but when I have it’s fun. The fact though that the only shit out there that I see when I search anything to do with Pokémon besides leaks and rumors is Pokémon vs Palworld. I’m already sick of it. The two can coexist without all the toxic ass losers making videos and articles about the shit. Leave the two separate. If we’re gonna compare games then Palworld is closer to Ark and just happens to have monster taming in it.

I love palworld and I can't stop playing but some pals are way to similar to pokemon there is a recolored luxray in it a recolored lycanrock
There is meganium and littirally cinderace I know it's inspired by pokemon but straight up recoloring or just fusing it with another pokemon is just stealing and might be a problem but the game is fun so I don't really care

Nintendo targeted Brick Bronze a roblox pokemon game, and also Stopped Development of another Roblox pokemon game months ago that the developers had to make a whole new game called Tales of Tanorio, and remember Pokemon Uranium? Nintendo Shut that down too still playable but I dont think Nintendo Likes ANY amount of competition.

all I'm going to say is the game that this studio that made Palworld made a game that looks a lot like Zelda (down to the monsters are basically ripped straight of). it defiantly doesn't feel like a Pokémon game but gives the vibe of trying to ride off the Nintendo franchise.

Sure some look like Pokémon. There are other games that has done the same thing. The gameplay in this game doesn’t even match the way Pokémon plays. It’s literally like you have a character that helps you fight and trying to survive. Shoot the game looks more like ark or breathe if the wild than Pokémon.😂😂

It's a game that has mature stories. You pick your home region, then DLC the rest.
You have to buy food on top of ensuring you have potions and Pokeballs.
If you or your Pokemon starve, you lose stamina and health. If your Pokemon starve, they lose what you did, plus a temp drop in stats and friendship.
You can buy stocks, houses, vehicles, and businesses, and you can employ people for your house and businesses.
Through stocks and your businesses, you earn money. You do this through tasks as well. (All incressing as your renown increases)
Exclusive areas like Orange Island are included as regions in this game, allowing you to start where you want.
The gameplay might not be Pokemon, but this is way too close to stealing characters directly from Pokemon. You can't do that. Digimon is basically where you draw the line and this far surpasses that. If the Pokemon company sues I bet they win.

Palworld's success is good for Pokemon as it provides an incentive for Game Freak to do better. Palworld itself is not. It is also not good for gaming as a whole as it provides an incentive for industry trends to remain stagnant.

I'm glad palworld exists. Pokemon has been going nonstop, and scarlet and violet was the breaking point for me. It's exhausting watching the decline of your favorite franchise. Palworld is kinda new/fresh/different, it functions and its fun!

people are so depserate to tear down this games success, that they have ireperably damaged the meaning of words like steal, plagerisim, and literaly, to the point where they can mean... anything.. whatever you want in the moment, thats what these words mean now... you can actualy compare colors, or two entirly distenct vaugly humanoid figures as being identical now... and many pokemon fans will just hit like and share becuse its supporting the naritive they want... huge million+ channels like assmongold, who i otherwise respect are pushing naritives proven liers have made becuase no-ne does any thinking or fact cheaking anymore, hearing it from a friend of a friend of some channel that posts online is all anyone needs now to form a rock solid view they will refuse to be talked away form, regardless of pesky things like, reality, or evidence.
my 2 biggest problems with Palworld are
1 - the designs of the creatures feel lazy, imo a creature collector should stand out through their creatures, like Digimon, Yo-Kai Watch and Spectrobes (even Flint the Time Detective, an anime only creature collector is able to look unique among the many)
and
2 - the creature designs clash with the world imo, it's a rather realistic looking world, with there very cartoonish creatures without matching textures or details
On number 2, I kind of feel like that's part of the enjoyment of the style. Cartoony creatures in a realistic world. It's cool

I think its awesome that an indie developer team can develop a game after 3 years and it frickin' runs MORE SMOOTHLY in EARLY ACCESS (yes, I know PalWorld had some bugs but I'm talking about PalWorld's frame rate and overall game performance, bugs aside) than Pokémon Scarlet and Violet from GameFreak, a multi-billion dollar franchise... it honestly makes them look like a JOKE... I believe this is a good thing too, I hope PalWorld's success makes GameFreak realise they have to keep being innovative with their product and I really hope their next game, at the very least, doesn't suffer from frame rate issues, stuttering like SV does and how half the Blueberry Academy biome was flickering in and out of existence during a pan view of it...
As a huge Pokémon fan who was frustrated after the frame rate issues, learning the legendaries were not only shiny-locked but had a 3% catch rate (so GF wants me to grind EVEN MORE effort and time just launching pokéballs at legendaries? It felt like GF was giving me, the player, the middle finger...), PalWorld has been a welcoming addition to my life, I've been enjoying it tremendously, I can't remember the last time I had this much fun playing a game! It also helps that the indie devs, PocketPair are more interested in creating a game that people enjoy and I really like their roadmap thus far.
