    Fantastic, great to see your decision process Tim. Domestic animal security, but maintaining the bio-diversity with planted hedging.

    Hi all yet more fencing, which I assume was not required with the original use of the farm . But obviously different stock require more separation , very interesting to see all the same . Just keep us posted , sorry couldn’t resist that one 😂. Kind regards as always 😄👍👍👍

      As a dairy it took little more than a couple of strands of barbed wire or electric so didn't lend itself at all to sheep and pigs, let alone goats! 😂

    Could you use something like scare foxes to keep the rabbits out? Just get some wooden ones cut out and paint them

    Tim, really like your farming series. However, the realities of farming are that most small farmers cannot afford the outlay to provide new expensive fencing and have to make do and mend. I speak from experience as a landowner.

      You are absolutely right however the use of CS grants covers close to 100% of costs for standard stock fence. There is no way we would be doing this without that assistance. Obviously if your under the acreage then that’s a non starter.

    Maybe a stupid question, but metal expands and shrinks, so how does the fencing accommodate that once it is fastened tight?
    My prediction is the metal is too thin to have any strength to affect.

      Good question. It does move and that is why the staples are never hit all the way in. That way the wire can slide on posts if there is any move moment. There is still enough give in the fence for seasonal change though. 👍

      @@diyfarm will be interesting to see how the tension is maintained as you go through the seasons

      @@DeafMaker I guess one benefit of the gripples is that it can be re tensioned slightly. Not noticed much difference on last years though. 👍

    Do you know why is it call horse fencing and sheep fencing?

    • @diyfarm
      @diyfarm  Рік тому +1

      It’s primarily designed for horses as it is small enough that they can’t get the feet stuck through it I think. It’s used lots for dog fields and poultry though.

      I know, fortunately I bought this at a sale full of sheep farmers and only cost £2.50pm. Probably because no one wanted to lift those things around! 😂
