You know what Chiropractors say, "well, there's your back problem: your wallet's too thick!" "Really?" "Yes, but don't worry. I recommend a course of several appointments with me...and by the end of it, your wallet is guaranteed to be much thinner!" 💸😂
Great Job! Hit them targets so accurately, made a nice air to air kill and get away, gotta say, that was a text-book landing! at dusk even.. little past perhaps, not much light at all but the landing deck lights. Hit number 1 wire if i heard correctly. Came in at that sweet spot trajectory and speed. Nicely Done! Thanks for the Video Ward! Always enjoy your content!
I think once Nasty has a chance to experience the new FFB Rhino he would start creating DCS content as well! If not Nasty, what's Heaters availability?? Cheers!!
@@WardCarroll what would be really cool would be to have tripple double, 2 drivers, 2 RIOs, in 2 tomcats, for the full wingman experience of understanding how a pair of birds would work in a mission, but that is a lot of logistics to get everything set up right, even if doing it over the net vs LANing, but a boy can dream yes? 😅
TO WARD: I am a subscriber who follows your channel for the news stories, which I like very much. I was surprised to see this DCS (Sim) video by you. But, I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed it to the very end. I am not a DCS player, and have not seen any other sim briefing like yours. I enjoyed the briefing especially, and I like how you narrated each step of the way, with your mentions of what you were looking for (symbology) and switch settings, and more. All of it helped me understand the role you and the aviators play on a mission such as this. The DCS realism (cockpit views and more) adds to it. But, I really did like the briefing first, as it gave a sense of the mission. I have a few questions, but i will ask in another comment. Thanks for providing this entertainment, but also informative (shows us some of the thinking before and during the mission) video. Well done!
30:45 This video brings me full circle. I was a PC with VF-41 board the USS Nimitz 78-81. Preflight inspection then sending my plane off, returning and post flight inspection, I would see calafax popped and heavy g's on G meeter. Now I know how all that could have happened. I appreciate your time putting into this demo and filling in the gap. Seeing this from a real navy pilot and explaining in detail is really top notch. Thanks again.
I've been a huge fan of Mr. Carroll for some time now; but these DCS videos are really enjoyable and informative. The pre-flight briefings make it so much more realistic. THANK YOU!!!
Absolutely fantastic!! I'm 73 but still 5 when it comes to all things military, especially aircraft. What an incredible insight to the skill, planning and coordination of a combat mission. Thank you!
This was really cool. There really is a difference between watching a DCS video from a normal player, and watching a DCS video from someone who was actually professionally acquainted with the bird featured in the video. Especially in the back seat, you were really comfortable, and knew right where everything was...no guessing, no fumbling, just get it done (which makes sense, given you were a RIO). I love that sort of thing. The pre-flight briefing was also a nice touch...provided context. A lot of other DCS videos are just, while already on the way to the target "ok, so we're flying the [insert plane name here], and we're on our way to blow up [insert target here]". You took the time to explain, in detail, what the objectives were, how they were to be achieved, and contingencies. really good stuff. Keep 'em coming Mooch.
When I get into the air in a sim, I sometimes pretend that I have to survive for my family who's waiting for me back home. You've topped me, man. I felt quite embarrassed for sitting through that pre-flight brief wearing just shorts and a t-shirt. Jokes aside, great video! :) And I really loved the briefing. A little glimpse of what it is like (more or less) in real life.
Thanks for the Inside the Ready Room look. Since I listened to the brief, EACH STEP of the flight was already "laid out in my mind" as you flew the mission. Flow of navigation. Sequence of Events. And when boogies show up it is not unexpected and from the direction briefed. You flew it the way you planned and briefed it. Really cool for a real world pilot who is an armchair wished I had been a military pilot.
Just a question did you ever think after you retired from the military that you would have young kids asking you questions about the f-14 and your experiences with the f-14?
That was awesome! As a former enlisted man on an aircraft carrier that supported the LSO, Air Boss, Flight Deck and Ship to Air comms it was great to see what the Pilots and RFOs had to deal with after they took off. Much respect to you sir!!
I don’t play DCS or other sims. But if Ward Carroll will make more videos just like this one (with briefing and narration on what to do while in the cockpit), I will watch them. Keep up the good and interesting content Ward!
I had a doc tell me the same thing some years back. I switched to a thin front pocket wallet and it helped noticably with my back pain. I don't think I will ever go back to the thick tri or bi fold wallets ever again.
Same problem - Chiro told me to take my current wallet out of the back pocket on medium / long cager trips (I'm also a motorcyclist). I have continued to go see Chiro for twice a week to get my back stretched out and I have exercises to do at home (I'm not always perfect on doing them, but I try). In my case - herniated disc at L5 , making back muscles at L1, L2 and L3 really tight trying to keep me upright (also have long body / short legs for height).
This DCS video was absolute fire! Thank you for showing us how it's done! I will definitely watch more of these! The more action, the more UA-cam will love the content! Also the green screen HUD in the center console of the jet looks legit like you are playing Top Gun on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, except it's in a jet. That's prreetty epic
Nice whiteboard Mr Carroll. Very educational and shows us a little of how the Carrier Strike Group's Naval Aviators actually plan and execute real strike missions. Thank you!
Loved the briefing, seeing all that is planned from takeoff to returning to the boat. I’m amazed at the level of detail, communication, and situational awareness. Thank you sir!
This experience is like accompanying Mooch in a real mission!! I love the briefing and the preparation as well as the informal debriefing still in the cat.
Absolutely loved this video. After I watched the whole video, I asked my 90+ year old mom who is still quite energetic and eclectic if she wanted to watch it and she said “sure”. I honestly thought it might be one of those times where she might doze off, but that’s not what happened. I added a bit of extra narration so she would understand some of the terminology better, and she absolutely loved it !! Both of us felt like we went on a mission in the Tomcat with you. Thank you so very much.
That is a great briefing Mooch! I have a good friend learning the RIO gig and I've wanted to incorporate a real life element with a preflight briefing for our missions, yours was an awesome example!
All other comments aside, watching you jump into the backseat and wiz through an interface you're already intimate with and actually set stuff up and hop back into the front seat and show us what we will see now was excellent. Even those brief hops back and forth show how the workload was split in real life!
Wow... sounds a little bit like that recent Top Gun sequel - but of course, this is NOT Hollywood. These guys that can do this are incredible. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Mesmerizing having a pro take us through all the phases of a mission using DCS. Nice seeing the front+back seat interaction. Im sure todays up and coming warfighters use similar tools to train to the latest weapons and tactics.
It Absolutely could be...imagine if Mooch, BIO, Heater, Nasty, Okie (the list is long and distinguished) rounded up and took over Flight Deck Ready room and sim pits in Anaheim California for a day to film a DVD presentation we could purchase A. Through the channel(s) B. via TM, WW, Vpl or other flight related products C. Available at Sporys online? D. All of the above and where ever books and DVDs are sold. Solid Double Platinum SIR! With enough notice, may could even charge admission to the shoot?? Cherrs!!
Mooch I love all of your video's, please keep uploading. The beifing before the flight was absolutely incredible and id love to see more of this kind of video as well as your other content. Whenever you upload im set for a good day!
These VR videos you do are great. Really liked the before mission briefing . That helped to understand what was ahead. As a retired AF maintainer it really helped to understand what our flight crews did . Great job!!
I was impressed by how little looking around Mooch did on the initial turn off the cat shot to rejoin and how he never looked at the mig 29 that was chasing him down at the end. I need some "no factor" mooch merch! Please keep this content up. Very good stuff. Can you post the mission?
Love the format! I like watching missions like this from people who know...If You Know, You Know. In the back, the dog is on the couch looking sleepy and saying: "man this guys boring when he's in this mode." XD
Hey Ward, as an ex jacktar (aust navy) you bring back the memories. I have photos from back when i was operating in the sea of japan onboard HMAS Hobart. We were plane guard for USS Inderpendence. My kids have asked me what planes were in my photos. Told them F-14s. The highlight of that trip in 97 was watching 2 xF-14s come from 40,000ft down to 100ft off the deck at full burner and hit old Hobart with a sonic boom. I pity the sailors that were in the aft heads at time. Gave you a whole new meaning of shitting yourself.
Mooch, your DCS vids are epic. Keep up with them, don't forget to always include briefing though, as it makes it 100 billion times more interesting and realistic. Anytime Baby !
Looking forward to the mission. At this point we're almost through the brief. Classic! GO Uzi 1-1! OK - after the fact: Great mission. I fly in P3D v5. A2A aircraft mostly. Most badass is the Civ P-51. Great way to get around. Most fun is the P-40B (very early version of that classic aircraft). I do watch a lot of DCS on UA-cam. Growling Sidewinder, etc. I can tell that you have been there, done that, and definitely have the tee-shirt. Keep on rockin' in a free world. Thank you for posting! One day, back in 1952 or so, my cousin JoAnne and I were walking along the San Francisco beach, on the raised path between the Great Highway and the actual sand of the beach. We were kids. Unsupervised. I saw two dots out over the ocean. They became Grumman Panther jets. They spotted us. Oh man - they flew over us, so low - it was great! My cousin hit the deck, but I just stood there, totally transfixed. It was SO COOL! And loud! Later, I figured that they must have been sent from the carrier to NAS Alameda. I still remember it, really well. They were probably coming back from the Korean War.
That was edge of my seat excitement! THANK YOU! I love all your content, but when I see you in the DCS Tomcat, that gets my attention immediately, before anything else on my watch later list!
Fair point. When I see the channel uploads an update on world events, it's a must watch because I'm not going to get the depth of context or transparent coverage anywhere else. I watch 5 or 10 minutes of AI news or lighter content, fix myself something to eat, and buckle in for that must watch episode. But when it's Ward Carrol in the cockpit, I'll just stop what I'm doing and put that on. Doesn't have to go in the watch later list 😂
Outstanding brief and flight details. I felt like I was out flying myself. Unfortunately, I would have been in the S-3 giving you gas, as that is what I used to fly. It brings back a lot of flight memories when I flew off the Kennedy in the Med.
Hello Ward from the son of a VF-102 maintainer (Phantoms)! I have seriously gotten into DCS after thousands of hours in MSFS and I'm very much digging into the RIO/WSO roles for the Tomcat and now the Phantom. Do you have any videos that focus on being the best backseater possible in DCS? Do you, have you, or would you consider giving one-on-one instruction? I think there would be a tremendous amount to learn from you, especially in combining all the different skill sets required by a RIO into a functional workflow while reading the tea leaves. Regardless, thanks for all the great content!
I was aboard USS JFK during the '75 Med Cruise with VS-21 on the first operational S-3a deployment. Got to set up front in a TC few times (11/23/75, yikes!), but this was my first flight mission. Very cool! Great work everyone!
Thank you ! This is one of the very best and nicer video ! DCS here feel just like an extension where provide us a look into somethings that could be real, not a game but a tool.. Thanks a lot ! I hope you will continue and maybe even do a Pilot/RIO video
Mr. Carroll, I surely will be popping popcorn, and enjoying your future installments of this type great and entertaining content. Hollywood has nothing on you my friend. 😎
Ward, appreciate you and the great quality stuff, in depth interviews, etc... would it make sense to launch the DCS sim stuff on another channel, like Rick does w Beato 2? Keep up the great quality, work!
No. Content like this is fundamental to this channel. Not a game, a training aid. If you’re interested in the F-14, there’s no better way to understand the details.
Mooch! You've done it again! I love the way you immerse us in your videos in your "ready room", complete with CWU 27/P. You make great content. Its been so neat to be on the journey with you as one of your early subscribers. Just getting into DCS myself. Its quite amazing. Continue your great content!
Best part is Pukie was in the OTHER plane, if I'm interpreting that call sign correctly. :-) OH, Pookie, never mind. Wait, what? Fun to watch, you guys sure are da men!
Ward, you are incredible. Briefing, flight, everything. It's bang on super-realistic and I love every nanosecond of it. You make me feel like I'm there. THIS is how things like this should go. If I were making a movie I'd hire you as my consultant, you're VERY good at this. One question: What's the difference between this style of attack and a good, old fashioned, dive-bombing run from WW2? Aside from the smarter weapons that is.
Thank you (WARD C.) excellent briefing I would like to see how you control all your buttons and levers. For me if I was NOT your target 😊 to be on ground and hear and see you fly over, seeing the great (F-14) above me ZOOMING by 😊❤😊 You make it seem so easy. The great thing about these Attacks on Target is the ONLY person that knows what your response will be is pre Briefing 😊 no one even on carries know your flight path close to ground, my gosh 500 feet 😊 You show us all in U-Tube Land what you did back then in time. Great video training profile.
While I deeply appreciate all if the serious, factual videos that you do which helps me still better informed about my world, I do also like these occasional forays into something fun. Many thanks for both types.
Jester (in a reproachful tone): “We’re really fast…570…” Mooch (in a disgusted tone): “Yeah, I’m trying to run away Jester…” Love it, giving your AI RIO a dose… Would have been even better if you’d said “I’m trying to prevent the bad guys from being able to say ‘Jester’s Dead, Yee Haw!!” Nice work Mooch
I can't say anything thats not already been said!! Huge fan of ya Ward and thanks for all the vids!! I fly the Tomcat a lot, also simulating traps on various carriers on MSFS 2020. Combat experience is from playing the ACE Combat series...I consider myself somewhst successful...BUT only because of what I've learned from you, Mooch. Thanks again!! 👍 🇺🇸👍
Hey Mooch. This is some highly informative stuff I hope you give the F-4E a swing when that releases. I wonder how you'll handle a platform you're not familiar with
Nice to see a Viking/Hoover in the air - I stole just under 200 hours with VS-29 and VS-41 during a shore tour and an my ASWMod tour - was rather bummed when the Navy retired them.
Great Briefing, Great Performance, Cool Mission! 👍🏽 Mooch, you can save 1 Sparrow, but, of course, 2 launches were more reliable in this situation. 😄 I guess there were a little high touchdown speed (around 160 kts) and vertical (around 1000 f/m). But if Jester hadn’t comments, then everything was fine 😂 P.S. Sometimes Jester comments the trap on the 1 wire!
That's was phenomenal! Thank you. Loving it. Is this mission available online to fly? Also do you not use the DLC? What would be the norm? I always have as found it kinda useful to help get onspeed at the start but what would actual aviators do?
Sick brief/ mission Mr. Carroll! There were some rumors flying around that you were working with someone to develop a DCS Tomcat campaign, any truth to that?
Ward, since you are playing Heatblur's single player Tomcat missions: do you have any plans going into Reflected's excellent campaigns for the Tomcat in DCS? I believe it would be great fun to see how you tackle "Fear the Bones", "Zone 5" and "Speed and Angels"! 👍
Boy, this reminds me: I still have the ORIGINAL "Top Gun: Fire At Will" computer game, for pre-Pentium (386 or 486!) Computers - the first version even features James Tolkan as the Captain! It's not quite as detailed as this, but very very close. I even still have a 486 desktop, so I can run it. 🙂
Thanks to Ridge for supporting the channel! Here’s the site if you want to check them out! > ridge.com/WARDCARROLL
You know what Chiropractors say, "well, there's your back problem: your wallet's too thick!"
"Really?"
"Yes, but don't worry. I recommend a course of several appointments with me...and by the end of it, your wallet is guaranteed to be much thinner!"
💸😂
Totally captivating, couldn’t stop watching. Still in awe at the calmness with which you manage the workload
You’re making DCS the ultimate dad game by adding the flight suit and whiteboard brief and I’m here for it.
An eye opener for those of us who don’t fly. Your skill and knowledge is so impressive. I LOVE this video. Very educational.
Love how Ward remembers the catapult shot so well his voice changes when shot in game...nice.

Secretly hoping for a future DCS collab where Nasty is piloting and Mooch is flying backseat. Now wouldn't that be something!
It would, but Nasty is a busy man. We're lucky we've had him in the past as much as we have.

Ward: My back hurts like hell, doc... Please do something!
Doc: First let me see your wallet.

I know nothing about being a fighter pilot but gord damn I love hearing your insight into these kinda things.
So cool watching you (a real Tomcat pilot!) playing through the mission. Great content as always 👍
Valeu!
Ha, I did this mission again recently. It's a gem. Some of Heatblur's campaigns feature some pretty decent missions as well for solo work.
I was aboard USS JFK during the '75 Med Cruise with VS-21 on the first operational S-3a deployment. Got to set up front in a TC few times (11/23/75, yikes!), but this was my first flight mission. Very cool! Great work everyone!
I love the this format for a video..I would love to see you continue with this.
Thank you ! This is one of the very best and nicer video ! DCS here feel just like an extension where provide us a look into somethings that could be real, not a game but a tool.. Thanks a lot !
I hope you will continue and maybe even do a Pilot/RIO video
Awesome, this simulator is absolutely phenomenal! Thanks for, breaking down the mission!
Wow, that was the most badass thing I’ve seen in ages
I really enjoy your content! Thank you for sharing your insight to naval aviation, I hope to see more!
Mr. Carroll, I surely will be popping popcorn, and enjoying your future installments of this type great and entertaining content. Hollywood has nothing on you my friend. 😎
It looked as cool, as if it had been directed by Tony Scott! 🤩🍿🍺
Can we get a collaboration with Growling Sidewinder in the front and Mooch in the back for a mission please?
Ward, you guys have mad skills. I give you great credit ( and envy!) for that.
You make it look effortless, Ward...Spot on briefing, and you flew the profile. Fly Navy....
Mooch! You've done it again! I love the way you immerse us in your videos in your "ready room", complete with CWU 27/P. You make great content. Its been so neat to be on the journey with you as one of your early subscribers. Just getting into DCS myself. Its quite amazing. Continue your great content!
Thanks for being in the journey with me!
Way too cool! I know you're a Tomcat pilot; however, can you complete another DCS mission in a legacy or super hornet perhaps?
Holy S**t its mooch! In the back seat! A much needed tutorial greatly appreciated! 👍😎
Thank you (WARD C.) excellent briefing
I would like to see how you control all your buttons and levers. For me if I was NOT your target 😊 to be on ground and hear and see you fly over, seeing the great (F-14) above me ZOOMING by 😊❤😊
You make it seem so easy. The great thing about these Attacks on Target is the ONLY person that knows what your response will be is pre Briefing 😊 no one even on carries know your flight path close to ground, my gosh 500 feet 😊
You show us all in U-Tube Land what you did back then in time. Great video training profile.
Ward doing a DCS video? Smashed that like button
While I deeply appreciate all if the serious, factual videos that you do which helps me still better informed about my world, I do also like these occasional forays into something fun. Many thanks for both types.
Jester (in a reproachful tone): “We’re really fast…570…”
Mooch (in a disgusted tone): “Yeah, I’m trying to run away Jester…”
Love it, giving your AI RIO a dose…
Would have been even better if you’d said “I’m trying to prevent the bad guys from being able to say ‘Jester’s Dead, Yee Haw!!”
Nice work Mooch
That comfort feeling when Ward goes back to the RIOs station and actually knows what’s he’s doing (not like me) 😂
I can't say anything thats not already been said!! 👍 🇺🇸👍
when mooch sticks the basket.. mooch sticks the basket!
damn, what did that thing ever do to you??lol
Lol. I thought the same. Wondered if he was just going to bring the basket back to the tanker like they dropped it 😂
Amazing channel…interesting and Ward you are clearly very knowledgeable.
Hey Mooch. This is some highly informative stuff
I hope you give the F-4E a swing when that releases. I wonder how you'll handle a platform you're not familiar with
Nice to see a Viking/Hoover in the air - I stole just under 200 hours with VS-29 and VS-41 during a shore tour and an my ASWMod tour - was rather bummed when the Navy retired them.
DCS for connoisseurs ❤
Great Briefing, Great Performance, Cool Mission! 👍🏽 Mooch, you can save 1 Sparrow, but, of course, 2 launches were more reliable in this situation. 😄
I guess there were a little high touchdown speed (around 160 kts) and vertical (around 1000 f/m). But if Jester hadn’t comments, then everything was fine 😂
P.S. Sometimes Jester comments the trap on the 1 wire!
this is the first time I seen anyone work the back seat of the F-14 in DCS
If you ever want to do a collab with a Navy controller, let me know! I was a Marshal guy from 05-08 on GW!
That's was phenomenal! Thank you. Loving it. Is this mission available online to fly? Also do you not use the DLC? What would be the norm? I always have as found it kinda useful to help get onspeed at the start but what would actual aviators do?
DLC was engaged. Should have said that when going through landing checks.
Sick brief/ mission Mr. Carroll! There were some rumors flying around that you were working with someone to develop a DCS Tomcat campaign, any truth to that?
Yes.
OUTF'NSTANDING SKIPPER!
Aren't you glad you don't have to feel the G's on that sore back?😂😂😂
Yep. I really like my slim-line wallet. I have been experiencing more wear & tear on the cards. Other than that. Those wallets are awesome.
I've done Speed and Angels. Great stuff.
Fascinating. Thanks, Ward.
Geez, can I breathe now?! Didn’t expect another combat episode this soon, but, well, hold on to your wigs and keys, as Letterman used to say.
You never leave your wingman 😎
Chaff… chaff… chaff… @20:45 but that looked like flares?
Newby question. If you are the shooter gas limited aircraft why do you launch first?
Thanks for the shirt. My son goes to school with it !!
I need to start playing this more than World of Tanks
