Hackett the best ever guitarist-composer , tapping guitar 1970 , play La Chaconne of J-S Bach , Genesis co-composer , 25 albums solos, composed Classical Music for Classic Guitar on A Midsummer Night's Dream and Metamorpheus , and Classical guitar Album on Bay of Kings and Momentum , etc etc etc 25 solo albums like Voyage Of The Acolyte , Spectral Mornings , Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth , To watch The Storms and many others , and best Lead Guitar ever Firth Of Fifth ....etc etc etc , merci Steve Hackett

"I couldn't afford a guitar with a whammy bar"....I imagine that now companies line up to provide him with their products just for the privilege of being seen with him playing them. Although I haven't seen him not playing a LP.

He plays a LP style guitar but its not a Gibson. (His main is a Fernandes)

It is not tapping but a right hand pull-off. Tapping is a different technique altogether. The difference between tapping (first 8 seconds) & pull offs from 10-14 seconds into the song) may be heard on Van Halen's Spanish Fly.
