      Olympus Reptiles you also said the jaguar gene is not 'native' to carpet pythons', not sure what you meant by that, but it IS a direct carpet python morph. It is not from cross breeding or hybridizing, it is a pure carpet python gene mutation.

    • @kylesreptiles-4619
      @kylesreptiles-4619 7 років тому +1

      Rick M where did he say the jag gene is not native to carpet pythons?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  7 років тому +1

      Rick M I didn't say that. I said it is not native to jungle carpet. it is to coastal carpet (separate species of carpet python). therefore, to get a jungle jag you have to cross coastal with jungle at some point.

    • @mattslev
      @mattslev 5 років тому +1

      ChillMp5 Get into a habit of removing the snake with a snake hook and then handling it gently without restraining it. That way the snake will learn to trust you and won’t feel threatened. Also, tapping the snake gently with the snake hook when you first open the cage before removing it will condition it to understand that you are not feeding it at that moment. Sometimes snakes that are fed in their enclosures learn to associate you entering the enclosure with feeding, and that stimulates their feeding response. Carpet python’s can be a bit nippy, particularly when they are juveniles, but most will tame down with proper handling as they grow larger and more confident.

    To be honest I kind of like hissy/puffy snakes. Makes me feel like more of a badass when I pick them up haha although no one is a fan of being bit x3 Great jungle jag! Have you seen the super zebras? They are absolutely stunning!

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  8 років тому

      not sure I have seen super zebras in person. I do love this jag! I think carpets could be a big thing in tbe market, but morphs are too slow to come out as wild snakes can't be exported.

    • @felicitystrain9151
      @felicitystrain9151 8 років тому

      +Olympus Reptiles The super Jags are completely patternless and an olive kind of color! Its pretty sweet although I doubt any are in the U.S. I only saw it in Australia. Guess we will have to wait a few years for the morphs to trickle there way over from Australia x3

    The coastal carpets run along the east coast. Jungles are at the very top of the east coast. South western carpet is self explanatory. Top end carpet is from the northern coastlines. Then centralian which are from the centre of oz, near Uluru and Alice springs. There are localities like Murray/darling carpets, and the diamond python which is not actually a carpet python they have found out. Similar though. They have amazing versatility in colours and are extremely smart animals. We used to have 5 to 6 sometimes 8 meter carpets all round our house growing up. They would climb down and move really slowly almost to say hello haha. Best pythons I can think of. Nothing compares to a carpet. Much prefer them over short stubby snakes

    my brother got one, and I LOVE snakes, but it is his friends and he brought it over a little while ago, and "share". it. does it has an increased chance to bite if they do not know you since I met it yesterday? his friend had it since 2013, so it is pretty tame, I just don't want to get biten since it's the first snake I've handled. (it is a carpet python, much like this one)

    Just a correction, the Jaguar trait IS natural. It's a co-dominant morph of the coastal carpet Python. Obviously this was then mixed with other carpet python types to make Jungle jags and Irian jaya jags etc. Many of these mixes are now mislabeled sadly which causes much confusion. Carpet Pythons are simply amazing in every way, whichever type you go for, and there are so many colours and patterns to choose from. The good old regular coastal Jag being my favourite. Bredl's (Centralian Pythons) Are also related and are just beautiful.

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  8 років тому +1

      thanks for the kind words, plan on doing an update on this snake soon (we did this video early on, and want to do a better one etc). holding on depends on the type of bite. most bites from young carpets will be defensive, and they will strike and release. if it is a feed error, then snakes tend to hold on.

    Shit mine is 3 years old and soooooo tiny compared to that... Is that due to under feeding?

      @OlympusReptiles  8 років тому

      lots of variety in size. feed one good meal a week, and should do great.

      +thompsoon3 I know, just a slip of the brain lol. If you watch full video I correct myself, and also addressed that in a comment I made on the video. I say Africa do often with ball pythons, Africa just came out.

    Why do you keep comparing them to ball pythons?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  6 років тому

      This video is an old one, should check out our updates of him. Much better lol. The reason I make that comparison is most people are familiar with ball pythons, so the difference between carpets and balls is what a lot of people want to know when deciding weather or not to keep one. A way to compare to what is familiar.
