There are 2 reasons to watch a review. A) to get an opinion on a game you don't know B) to understand how much the reviewers view is aligned to your own. B) is essential to make A) relevant. On Septima, I played it twice a couple of weeks ago and sold it afterwards. And again, the two of you re-confirm why you have become my by far most trusted board game reviewers. Thank you 👍👍
Excellent review (as usual)! Sounds like this will end up being a play it once a year around Halloween kind of game for me. Really wish it would have showed up in time for that this year. It sounds like the comparison to Escape Plan is particularly apt. I do like Escape Plan, but will pick every single other big box Lacerda over it. So at least Septima will have the seasonal theming to drive it getting played.
For me, the excessive thinking comes from having to plan several moves in advance. Have you played with the Shape Shifting expansion? It does add more thinking, but changing into animals and their benefits are very fun.
I received my kickstarter copy and I look forward to playing it soon. I hope that your review gives me low expectations and then I find that I love the game. I certainly love the theme and the artwork, so here's to hoping that I disagree with your review. :)
Finally came to watch some of your videos again :) Went too deep on video games lately. Septima to me was the biggest disappointment in quite a while. I love the artwork, but the game is just super dull. Overly complicated rules for super draggy set collection stuff. Usually you think about what you have to do and then you need an hour to execute that. We actually did stop the "introduction" game in the middle and replayed with four people a week later including the add-ons - the other people found it okay or even good; I really hated it and would never play this again.
My only play of this was 4p and included the shapeshifters expansion. I think both of these led to me liking it more than you did. It is not as good as Anachrony, Trickerion, or Voidfall, but I would give it an 8.5. Coincidentally, that's exactly how I feel about Escape Plan -- also an 8.5 that isn't as good as Kanban, Lisboa, or on Mars.
I definitely liked it better than you 2. When we played the full game, we maxed out on the ritual track, but some witches got caught because we had 7 suspicion a lot. I still have to play with the expansion.
Since I know already that we have very similar taste in games, this review is unfortunately contributing to my regret at having backed the campaign. Not because you do a poor job in any way, but because your opinion echoes what many other people are saying on BGG. I was drawn in by the absolutely stunning artwork, but I'm getting the feeling that there just isn't enough depth in the game to keep me interested. Do you think there is anything MindClash could do to address this? Do you think there could be some sort of expansion that adds enough to the base game to make it deeper and worth coming back to more often?
I think that for many, this will be (and I know it is) a great experience! I think it all boils down to what you want from the game. As you see in the comments, many are loving it, so don't lose hope yet :D
I really like this game but I agree what IS with the obnoxious potions tray? There's no reason at all for it to be that size, as if the game isn't enough of a table hog as it is.
Great review guys. Septima fell flat for me. Too much overhead for not enough gameplay. The rules make it seem deeper than it is but the gameplay outstays its welcome and ultimately, by the final 3rd of the game - I’m not invested in the end game.
Interesting review, a good one, I like the comparison to voidfall, although, just for the price I'll pick up Septima. At the same time it kind of remminds me of Broom service in the way the cards are played, but instead of losing the action, this time you power it.
@BoardGamingRamblings I love games, but my wallet says otherwise. Fortunately I have some friends who also buy games. So I'll get to play both, Septima & voidfall. Thanks guys for answering my rambling 🤣. I wish you a great week

Interesting. I played this over the weekend and loved it. How would you guys rank all the mind clash games?
Glad to hear you are enjoying it :) Makes me happy that people like games! 🤩
Hard to say, but probably Trickerion at the top! :)

@BoardGamingRamblings considering how much it cost, I'm glad too :D
@@sadekhanna That makes sense! Liking games are good, and maybe liking expensive games are even better :D
6 boiled mandrake victory points for each of you.
Thank you for all the points 🤩

I love this more than you can understand 🤩

Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed it! Not the game for us either, but with so many games out there to play, I’m fine with it 😂

@@gs24-xor It's good to be a group of people buying! Makes it way easier for everyone :)
The Sophie character art looks like Sinema!
I have to check that out! 😁
Ok kind of disappointing, got my ks copy anyway, let's try it. 😅
Hope you’ll love it! 🤩
