    Nice video. I have just purchased this same mill and am going to get the belt drive kit before even touching this thing to a work piece. Kudos!

    I'm glad you beat me on buying your mill. now I can just watch and learn about all the things I want to do on my mill. Thanks a bunch

    A large component of the noise remains from the unused internal gears which are still engaged and rattling against each other. It's a bit of work but you can reduce the noise by at least half by removing them. For me it was well worth the effort.

      +ExtantFrodo2 - Thanks, yeah I did eventually remove all the gears when I took everything apart to handle binding.

    I will be making a video on the air spring conversion next if anyone wants me to cover anything on it. It looks to be fairly straight forward. I have to pick up an M6 x 1 tap before I start. I don't have much metric stuff.

    Hi Craig. I don't know if you made the conversion yet, but here it is.......in this video on he bottom of the spindle where you put your hand on it to turn the spindle, make or buy a collar the size of the bottom of the spindle......with a grub screw and then somewhere on the collar drill a hole to insert the spindle pin........it works al to better for you and you do not have to stretch to find the hole that the pin goes into, because its now at the bottom of the spindle instead of the top......good lucks did mine it works great ...I also use a hardened 5/16 punch to insert in the hole of the collet....enjoyed the video.

    "next step"
    "insert clear plastic sleeve on shaft that had the plastic gear mounted on it"
    **inserts plastic sleeve all the way down on shaft**
    "Got the plastic sleeve on... Alright. next step!"
    "With the plastic sleeve inserted to top of shaft so its flush and not inserted too far down on shaft... Attach mounting bracket"
    DOH!

    It's now, June 2021. But recently seen another person did the same belt conversion on their's. So I'm going to get that kit too, and get a rid of this plastic gear. What a dumb idea, when it was built.

      Thanks! The tripod helps a lot. The kit is nice. The plastic cover is a little flimsy and doesn't line up quite right. It is a little hard to get the spindle pin in. Should be easier with the fine feed assembly off. It was a lot easier then I thought. If I had to do another one, maybe 10 minute tops to do the conversion. I will do a before and after next time.

    I commend him for having the guts to make this video but this was difficult to watch for many reasons. Every time he touched the mill his expression was as if he stepped in dog shit or like he was saying ewe in his head.

    Hi Craig , just wondering what made you buy that model mill ? and what are your intended uses for it ? I was actually going to buy that model myself but i ended up purchasing the Titan Machinery TM25V due to the fact that everytime i have made a purchase in Machinery its always been either too small or under powered

    • @craigsmachineshop2040
      @craigsmachineshop2040  9 років тому +1

      vinygee The TM25V looks like a really nice machine. Wish I had the money to start with that. This is my second company and don't want to invest too much in it till I am sure the venture is sound. Was thinking about going with the Grizzly G704 if things work out. I will check out the TM25Z. Thanks!

    What CNC kit are you going to use? I'm leaning towards CNC Fusion...
    Jay

    • @craigsmachineshop2040
      @craigsmachineshop2040  9 років тому

      Jay Raxter Thanks Jay! I have already ordered the CNC Fusion kit. There seems to be a lot of support for it on youtube and have heard good things about it. They didn't respond immediately when I emailed or ordered. You might have to wait a day or two to hear back from them. I think they are just really busy. When I found out it would take 3-4 weeks to get, I was strongly considering making it myself but didn't want to tackle the boring of the X axis plate with the tools I have. I am just doing other upgrades while waiting. Sam at CNC4XR7 has done a great job of making his own. You might want to check out his videos if you haven't already. He commented on this video also.

      CNC Electrician I'm (eventually) going to do the exact same as you. I've been optionally thinking about getting a Sieg X2D...it's on the Little Machine Shop site. Or a Grizzly 8669 Mill (same as the HB one you have). Oh...it's not the dang CNC mounts...it's them ballscrews...price them anywhere else...YIKES!
      I've got a Grizzly Micro Lathe I'm converting. It's small enough I can 3D print my own mounts and use NEMA 17 motors on it. I've got all my parts, motors and drives...just have to get finished with it. Not enough hours in the day.
      Were you planning on doing any more videos before the conversion? I would love to see the mill (in factory form) mill some stuff. There are SOME videos of that but they're note done very well. IE...you click on the "Mini Mill Machining Aluminium" title and you get a close-up view of the tool....cutting aluminum. I want to see it pulled back. How MUCH of a cut can you do? How many cleanup passes does it take? What about plastic?
      Anyway...do some more :) I'll watch em...
      Jay

      Jay Raxter Yes, The ball screws are pricey. That's another reason I went with CNC Fusion.
      Yes, I plan on doing a few videos before I do too many upgrades. I plan on doing a "Lets see what it can do" video with wood, plastic, aluminum, mild steel, 4140 and titanium. I will try to do some finish pass stuff also.
      I went with the Harbor Freight because it was $528 to my door.

    This isn't a good advertisement for this Chinese product is it ? I mean this conversion kit should not have been necessary had PLASTIC gears NOT been used in it's manufacture, as the old saying goes, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
