History and Song Index
In 1970, arranger, producer and virtuoso keyboard player Doug Riley hired Lenny to play on singer/songwriter Beverly Glenn Copeland's self-titled first album along with several other of Toronto's top jazz musicians.
Beverly and Lenny hit it off while recording the album and did several gigs afterwards in Toronto and Ottawa. They also played on a CBC TV special called 'Music to See' in front of a live audience. Lenny backed Beverly on five songs and played a beautiful solo instrumental version of Bob Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice'.

11:08 - well, on top of the thumb pick, i see Lenny was a serious nail player :)
I already knew Lenny was a genius, but I can't believe I haven't heard her until now! What an amazing voice and vocalist!
I had the good fortune of seeing Glen and Lenny live at a small club in Toronto when I was about 20 years old. It made a lasting impression on me that is as vivid today as it was that day more than 50 years ago. Thank you for sharing this, it means so much to me.
I saw them at Meat and Potatoes on Huron Street. Perhaps that was the spot?
Beverly Glenn Copeland's soulful voice reminds me of Joan Baez in her youth.
so beautiful to see this footage of them both. thank you.
glenn became a friend in 2017 and asked me to play guitar for his new band. we eventually toured around canada and europe for a few years.
i knew i had massive shoes to fill and that thought was terrifying. i did it though and glenns music and friendship moved me unlike anything else.
during early rehearsals, i started playing the chords for 'colour of anyhow' and glenn said he would really love to include it in our set as we were mostly touring songs from the keyboard fantasies album. it became one of our favourite songs in the setlist and you can find live performances here on youtube.
unfortunately, his martin guitar in this video was stolen. he has a new album releasing in july; please support him if you can. thanks.
rest easy LB.
Wow incredible story. Love these videos of Lenny
I wondered if this footage survived. Thank you for such a gift. The mutual respect between these two visionaries is so powerful to see!
Getting a Joni Mitchell vibe myself. Really good duet.
This moved me to tears of joy ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes, they were a beautiful musical match. Made a wonderful album together as you may know. A sort of legendary classic.
@@thelennybreauarchives5675 I have the vinyl GRT album. Still a favourite.
If you enjoyed this vid with Beverly and Lenny, you might be interested in this post, which features an interview with Beverly talking about Lenny, followed by cuts from Beverly's first album on which Lenny played. Powerful stuff.

The voice. The music. Man. I was exactly 1 year old in 1971 and how the heck did I never know of them.
Listening to this is like being given an emotionally seventeen-year-old symphonic do-over. What high frequencies expressed here. I miss it; the peace , the love, my doves! thank you Lenny and Glenn-Beverly!
wow, what a document. A fantastic singer songwriter with an amazing voice who produced some of the best and most creative folk jazz of the era (like say, Tim Buckley and Joni Mitchell) and one of the greatest guitarists ever. Both incredibly overlooked figures at the time unfortunately.
Oh wow. Just wonderful. And the life-stories of these two truly great musicians could fill an entire library. So good.
Lovely to run into two old friends here.
Lenny Breau ! Utterly sublime here, left to his own devices !
Wow, that's beautiful. What a Voice!
Lenny the Breautiful , such a sensitive , gem of a musician . Love to hear you , love to see you , Len .
What a beautiful combination of talents. Thanks for posting!
I get a feeling of Joni Mitchell when I hear her sing.......am I the only one?
No, you’re not. BG-C said JM was a big influence.
Wonderful rich voice and everything in between, plus Lenny as support. Heaven.
This was a really great show, thank you very much for archiving and for sharing.
Never seen this before. After all the years!
Great!
OMG Beverly's voice was SO beautiful!
Wow! This is fabulous ❤️ Thanks for preserving and sharing this
Lenny was a flyer above all others. While the vast majority was learning to fly above the trees, Lenny was at 100,000 feet.
Amazing! So wonderful to see and hear; thanks for sharing this!
"Hold Together" was released under the name "Together For Us All"
Thank you. We'll make that change.
What a treasure to be able too see and hear music played by two experts
This is wonderful. Thank you.
14:11 The highlight of the show... Lenny at his best! 14:32 starts it... Favorite part 17:15.. 😊
What a treat! Haven't heard much of Copeland's earlier works, but this is so wonderful, you can really tell he and Breau enjoyed working on this. Amazing to get such good quality footage from some obscure bit of CBC history as well
Nice rasgueado by Lenny. A true virtuoso master of the instrument. Ms. Copeland is brilliant. Thank you for this and all the videos.
*Mr. Copeland
total Jaco vibe as an accompanist, blown away
Technology is so cool.
This whole evening was caught on camera! Lots of great music going on!
Thank you!!
Wonderful to see this footage! Imagine being backed up by Lenny Breau.
I can't believe that I have been alive more than half a century and never heard of Beveley Glenn Copland. She is incredible.
So beautiful
Such a beautiful concert ! Too short !!
Bev really is tight with Lennt.... Jeez where can you get tjis type of groovy talent these days.
Awesome reharmonizing by Lenny,miss you✌
stunning!
wow!!!!
Great! didn't know there was early footage
No comment. Guilty.
Sweet Rain at 18:05? is it a cover... don't find any information, amazing song!
All songs except Don’t Think Twice are originals by Beverly.
re you saying this song was never released... what a shame :(
I would have liked to have seen more of the actual performance. Unfortunately, when the visual artist gets involved, they've got to add their artsy fartsy perspective on someone elses performance.
Kind of like Joan Baez with that tight vibrato..... nice set!
I see a young woman singing and playing her guitar, accompanied by the late, great Lenny Breau.
Good Eyes!
So far two songs. And yet no lead playing. For. Lenny!??? Wtf?
*Faints
So wonderful to hear Lenny in pop/country setting. Some of it sounds a bit like Dickey Betts
Or..him..?
