My RF 50mm 1.2 ;-) I really don't like wider lenses. Got an RF 135mm 1.8 on order to complement this one and that's it, apart from my 24-105mm F4 for studio. I do shoot people (of the female persuasion) only, however. That matters in my decision ofcourse.
I find those more entertaining than “cinematic” blurbs. They’re both good things to watch, but I find the technicals to be better at discerning where the lens falls apart not where it works well. I want to know where I shouldn’t use the lens and opt for something else. I already know I can make cool content with most lenses, but I want to know where it doesn’t work as well as other options.
I love Gerald Undone's breakdowns. I also like Matti's take on if you even need the product and what work flow looks like with or without. Both have their place.
It's all about rythm when editing. Sitting on a chair and looking straight into camera makes a plateau. He is creating a secondary story besides the lens review which keeps things interesting. At least this is how I understand it.
Dude, these vlogs with your son are amazing. You’re going to look back on these in years and be so happy. It will be the best content you’ve ever created. Great work Dad! 🎉
@@mattih Ya, keep Kai in them as much as you can. Part of the reason we started our channel was this very reason. Whether it becomes "something" on UA-cam or not...in the end, these are the modern versions of the old family home movies that our parents had on the old reels. Great work as always bro.
Love this style of video dude. As a dad who has their first kid going to Kindergarten in the fall, I resonate so much with your thoughts on family, and absolutely love that you made your son such a big part of this video! So good man. You've been one of my favorite creators for a long time and this is one of the many reasons why. Cheers to you and your fam man!
It’s crazy watching your kid grow up. I remember when you talked about him and he was just a baby. Now he can speak coherently and understand large numbers. It’s crazy how time flies.
Thanks for the real life update, Matti! Glad to know you've been spending more quality time with your loved ones. We're always here for whatever and whenever you put out. Cheers
This was my favorite review I've seen in a while! It's fun to see a little behind the scenes in your day-to-day life while learning about a lens I'll never buy. Keep rocking that dad life!
I honestly haven't been using 50mm as well. Shooting with 35mm the majority of the time, I've never found myself wishing I had more range but still needing to step back a majority of the time. I think my natural state of shooting has always been to stand particularly close to my clients or subjects, but who knows. Maybe picking up a 50mm will cause me to shoot differently but it's yet to be seen! Will consider picking up a different lens though, maybe the sigma, as I've realised I can always put the dollars saved into different equipment which could help me with my business a lot more!
@@mattihi use 24mm and 50mm. I have found its pretty easy to replace 35mm with 24mm. And 50mm just gives a little more compression for any other shooting needs.
this family videos are just what puts a smile on my face man, I think I speak for everyone in here when I say, please do keep making these "informal" videos Matti, great job
beautiful and heart warming,i love the niftfy 50mm especially for cinematic b rolls and portraits, thanks for the video man, family is more important than money..
The 1.2 saved my butt during 3 weddings last summer for dark receptions! I definitely think its worth the extra 700 bucks. But the options are definitely nice!
7:18 when little ears are listening ❤️ think his face is the best confirmation you're making some good decisions 👍 keep it up, blessings to you and the fam!
Love you taking more time with your fam, the big things that matter in life. Also this style is sick, more casual, gives me a bit of like Floberg vibes.
Love the casual videos with your son/family. They're always fun. I was fortunate to stop working my corporate job about 12 years ago just before a parent, in a different state, started having serious medical issues. I was able to spend so much time being there for procedures, surgeries, and just hanging around the dinner table. Wouldn't change any of it. I've been following the MRS philosophy (Multiple Revenue Streams) and social media isn't part of it. 🙂 Enjoy the time and keep doing what you feel is right for you. The rest will fall into place.
I only have teh 24-70 GM II and I have essentially a 24, 35, 50mm but would like 85mm instead of 75. Also, the 2.8 aperture is a bit too low for dark situations. I like the lens but would love some primes. Then it would be 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm :-)
Brother, these are the best videos. Include and enjoy your family. At the end of the day when everything else goes away, this is what we have left! Probably one of my favorite videos!
You're not only a great content creator Matti You're a great person, you really inspire me so thank you for that!!! greetings from Honduras Central America 🥳🥳🥳🥳
in europe the 1.2 and 1.4 is basicly the same price now. Sony have cashback campaign on the 1.2 and so you end up with a difference of 120 euro or so..
I gotta say what I love about your channel is the way you talk about these things. Where other youtubers might have said "Why you shouldn't use the 50mm" i.e. meaning why THEY don't use it, you on the other hand put it all on yourself. Because that's the thing - all of this moviemaking is so subjective and there is no wrong or right - only what works for you. And making others feel bad in order to get a clickbait headline is like pissing in your pants to get warm. So what I'm trying to say is keep up the good work and the positive vibe, it makes your channel a nice place to hang out :)
Man it’s obvious you don’t like this focal length your last 2 videos on the Sony 50mm all I got was weight and size comparison. But big up for spending more time with the family.
In every review it says "way cheaper than the 1.2". In Europe prices are always tax included and the 1.4 costs 1699 and the 1.2 costs 2099. I don't find that difference so big. It's still considered an expensive lens. You could buy two Sigma Art lenses for that amount of money.
A RECENTLY CONDUCTED STUDY BY TANGENT MEDIA HOUSE SHOWED THAT THE VIDEOS SHOT WITH LATEST SONY ALPHA CAMERAS CAUSED MORE STRAIN ON THE EYES OF THE VIEWERS. SOME VIEWERS ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT SWOLLEN LOWER EYELIDS AS A RESULT. ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE REGARDING THIS?
I thought you were gonna eat it too. (Trampoline). I'm with you. 35mm feels more appropriate for video, BUT, I've been having too much fun with vintage 50s. Lastly... my kids are teenagers, one almost leaving the house... It goes TOO FAST. SCREW opportunities, man, your kids are here once, and once only.
Matti so glad that you're taking 2 steps back just to make 1 huge leap forward in the upcoming months. Happy for you that big projects are on the horizon :-) I've been watching both you and Peter from the very begining and I think that regullar YT videos/reviews are not your final destiny - You both should and are aiming much higher which is nice :-) Still waiting for Your Documentary that You announces like 4 years ago ;-)
Great video matti and precious memories with kai. Your message about being able to be a content creator and spend more time with family is really positive and great change to the hustle culture. Looking forward to seeing the feature film Your making. Thanks for sharing and have a great week 😀
I love these types of videos. Been a long time subscriber and I don't know if it's just be, but the super tech specific review videos are just getting old for me (from all channels). So videos like this are such a refreshing take. Thanks for always being real. I can also completely understand wanting to spend more time with your kids.
You’re making me realize I didn’t have to choose between UA-cam and my kids….why not combine the two! Love seeing the dad in you and your beautiful family!
Matti’s video are quite well stabilized.Even when walking, looks great. I would be curious to find out if he is using active stabilization or perhaps catalyst? Any idea on that?
In a world where you can be completely set with a 35 and an 85mm prime, 50mm is the "normal" between those two, enabling walking around with a single lens and making environment and tight portraits by zooming with your feet.
where's the snow lol. canon 15/35 to have those nice wide shots. I also like my 50mm 1.8, I think it does a great job capturing closeups with a decent blur back group.
Got plenty of background context in this one to me. Gordon Willis once said (in terms of tools), “Nothing does everything.” 35mm is versatile but doesn't do everything. You rocked the 50.

1.8 is very cute. You don’t feel guilty if you still mainly use 16.35 mostly. It is my situation but i almost always switch too 20mm when it gets darker and i still want to film “everything” like with 16.35. Also its perfectly balanced on sony cameras

16mm because I love wide lenses
One of my favorite quotes. "No success can compensate for failure in the home." Great balance of work and family my man! Adorable kid
