Retro-comment from the year 2022, but to adjust the speed of the floppy drive use a neon bulb. Back in the day we'd tape a neon nightlight into the end of a toilet paper roll because it fit perfectly and well, it worked. So if you ever see THAT at a thrift store, you'll know what it was for.
