Leslie Ryan I was so excited to see Mike go out for the 25th anniversary! I just wasn’t old enough to get in :(! I am 20 and all shows where 21+. I appreciated mike posting lives throughout the tour on Instagram! Love love love soul coughing
@@lulame58 hey there, Mike's a friend of mine. He'll be happy to hear that he's got young fans, in addition to us old schoolers😉. If you follow him on FB or insta, he posts tons of live stuff... most of it from his house.
Soul Coughing just announced reunion tour dates for 2024 and I’m very excited! Bittersweet watching this. The interviewer asking “How are you going to top that for your next record?” and me dying inside a little.
I don't completely trust Mike's recollection of events. Drugs, paranoia and depression can warp anyone's perspective. All the other dudes in SC seem like good people
@@michaelgraham9774Mike is similar to how Mark Lanegan was with Screaming Trees. Didn’t like the band mates except Barrett. But still wouldn’t abandon them. He had a warped portrayal. In regards to everyone in SC, Mike had an ego
I like how mark tried to discreetly promote Tempo Team (basically SC without Mike, early 2000s). There were reports of an album that was to come out in 2003 but it never happened. Maybe one day..
Soul Coughing without the words, melodies, chords, samples... They did release it on this web site they're talking about. It's called "Horse Tricks" . Haven't been able to finish that album. It's been 20 years. And I'm huge fans if these guys. Live shows, bootlegs, solo shows... Their solo stuff proves Doughty was right and got F-ed Over
I read Piero Scaruffi's Rock and underground popular music history on the internet, then bought it. Ruby Vroom was one of the albums he gave an 8/10 to. They are in a weird experimental druggy no man's land stylistically. They aren't like a subculture band (punk, goth, metal definitely not for preppy teens), they are themselves.
Doughty's book blew my mind. It breaks my heart, if it's true, cuz Soul Coughing was one of my favorite acts. I've always been curious if these guys ever reacted to the book publicly or made any counter-claims. If anyone can point me to an interview clip or article it would be appreciated.
@Ted Wilson Really? I love Mike but saying he "is the band" sounds like you've never seen them live or really listened to the records. Maybe you're confusing the horrible band dynamic with the sound of the band? Do you think Mike's solo music sounds exactly like Soul Coughing?
Gem of an upload! Thank you, uploader, for bringing this to light, I don't think there are any other videos on youtube of Mark Deli Antoni (spelling) or Sebastian Steinberg speaking so this really is a gem of a video!
Mark Degliantoni. He's a super cool and rational guy. My band is really SC influenced and we even sampled Screenwriters Blues as well as Marvin Gaye (a la SC's use of Howlin' Wolf in Down to This) and he was really warm and receptive.
are there really no interviews with all 4 o=band members together? anytime mike does an interview its always with yuval but never anyone else that i can find
Doughty came up with all the samples this guy is credited with! And showed him how to use the sample machine at the weekly jam night at The Knitting Factory. Mike wrote the lyrics, melodies, chords, samples and this keyboardist told Mike he wasn't a musician and didn't have rights to his material. FN Crazy. As someone who produces material: there are insane musicians out there that are great but can't write. And that clashes with their Narcissism and drives them and everyone around them insane. Doughty could have had any other sample player on earth and Soul Coughing would probably be a successful band. This dude killed the Golden Goose. F- art F- music F- money F- it all for petty Ego Squables... P.S. F! That dude!
That’s simply not true. You can read in Doughty’s “Book of Drugs” that Mark had introduced him to the different forms of sampling, such as using a keyboard sampler or a pad.
@@codyschuman1618 It's very interesting that people are so quick to side with Doughty without realizing the two fold fact that the rest of band was, and still are, already VERY talented musicians in their own right and that Doughty's own drug crises during that era somehow absolves him of his own behavior. I love Soul Coughing and enjoy Doughty's solo stuff, but reading his book does leave a bad taste in your mouth for Doughty.
I wanna know whatever happened to these two? I mean, I know Mike was good and has his own thing now, but from the tiny bit I could tell the other three really were the spice rack that made Soul Coughing what it was, as opposed to just the "Mike Show." (Mind you, there's NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MIKE SHOW, so if that's your bag, I'm NOT knocking you... I'm just saying, it's NOT QUITE the same as "Soul Coughing.")
I know Sebastian’s doing great at least. He plays bass for a bunch of different big artists, and I mean a lot a lot. Fiona Apple in particular loves collaborating with the dude. I don’t know how mark or yuval are doing though.
@@brendanspaulding7930 Thanks for letting me know! Yeah, I looked up Sebastian and saw that he had some things going on, but a bit sparse. Thanks for the info!

Great band. Too bad those guys couldn't respect the youngest member. Mike. You know the guy who made the band what it was. Too bad Mike was an addict. A lot of too bad. But great band
These two think they are so cool. Dude on the left is a used car sells man if I‘ve ever seen one. Mr. eyebrows is his greasy mechanic who over charges for pretend problems.
It really sucks that SC couldn't get along, really fantastic band
Mike is currently touring and playing Ruby Vroom in it's entirety. I think in honor of it's 25th anniversary. Looking forward to the Memphis show.
Read Doughty's book. EXACT same experience I had getting people to play my material.

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hope you got to see this 2024 tour.
El Oso is one one of my all time favorite albums. I'm happy back in those I lived in the US otherwise I might not got to know this band
I read Doughty’s book, weird to think of his portrayal of his band mates seeing this interview. They seem like nice humble guys!

“Thanks for distribution guys, but we’re going solo!”
