have you tried lowering the powertrain unit from the bottom? undo the subframe bolts, steering linkage and top strut mounts? looks like the whole thing would come out pretty easy.
Wouldn't it have been more cost effective to separate the lower ball joint instead of the struts to remove the axles? Then no need for an alignment after.
Hi I want to ask for the exchange of engines to Chrysler Neon 2 with automatic transmission in the same car only comes with a manual gearbox will be the engines of the feast?
....well done, a good job giving the Neon a new lease of life with another engine, and the satisfaction of doing it yourselves....and HEY..isn´t the timing belt easier to do with the engine out...!!!??
is it possible to remove the engine from the top instead of the bottom? all i have is a chainfall and a tree to change this engine also if it is possible do i have to remove the transmission from the engine to do so? or should i just dig a hole in the ground and park the car overtop of it?
Absolutely, it's just easier from the bottom because you don't have to remove as much. for the home mechanic with no lift, it's almost as hard to do it from the bottom. However, if your engine lift is strong enough you can actually life the front of the car with it and drop the engine down that way. BUT BE CAREFUL, we have an old style engine lift that is really heavy duty and can hold 8000 to 10,000 pounds. Otherwise pulling it out the top works fine, just takes more time and a little finesse to line it up correctly
I have a 2000 Dodge neon and it won't crank for anything. You think I need to replace the engine? Its dead silent. I charged the battery and still no go.
I had a P303 code so I got a tune up with new ignition coil, spark plugs and wires replaced the code came back they told me that #3 wouldn’t got up to 150. Do you think I need a new engine please help and if so what’s the price range for this?
Bianca Hankton talking about compression? If so just go get some junk yard heads bolt it down valve might be bent or valve seat got out of talarance but if you put oil in the cylinder then compression test shows more psi build up it will be lower end needs new piston rings jasper engines around 1000 bucks from like auto zones reman parts
I just bought a 2000 model with 3 motors,, it doesn't have one in it currently and I have no idea what i'm doing, first I need to figure out how to rebuild a 5 speed std transmission, then figure out how to put it all back together with the connections being in the right places. Do you have any tips or suggestions please? gridline6@yahoo.com Ty for any help.
You guys do a horrible job at showing all the different little brackets there's three different brackets one on the front one on the back and one on the bottom of the transmission would have been nice to take note on where all those go and all the bolt placement. You really do a half ass explanation of how everything comes apart so somebody's watching this to learn for the first time it's not going to get them very far. Also I literally just did this and took about half of what you took out of the car and left the transmission in the car in still got the motor out and it was a hell of a lot easier than pulling everything you pulled LOL

Does the 2002 motor have the one sensor right above the oil filter like the 2000/2001?

I'm not positive, but it should be

And so why is it a better idea to replace the engine from underneath as opposed to doing it from the top?
Very little clearance for engine and transmission coming out the top. You have remove quite a few more obstructions as well
If you do decide to pull it out the top, do yourself a favor and remove the hood
