Pro Evo 6 on PS2 was the pinnacle of the series imo.

They're FIFA hooligans.
For me this is the best soccer game that ever existed. The perfect middle ground between the super arcady gameplay of the early ISS games and the more realistic direction the series took from the PS2 era onwards
I used to think that FIFA was the be all and end all as far as football games went. I had a friend who was always going on about how good ISS was so one day I borrowed his ISS and quickly realised why he loved it. It took me a while to become a full convert but around the time Pro Evolution 3 came out I was 100% on team PES.
Nowadays it's a lot closer and there are good arguments for preferring either series but for a while PES was so far ahead it looked like game over for FIFA. I have not played any football games on PS5 or the current generation of consoles but the amount of hours and fun I had playing the PS2 Pro Evolution Soccer games is endless. And this ISS video brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia.

Yeah... beloved game from a beloved ERA....
This was my most played football game back in the day, I renamed every player in the database aswell to the real one. I had alot of my best goals saved on memory card too! Played alot of co-op with my neighbour (Master League), the memories and crazy goals you could score on this game. Or L1+x, L1+square,L1+triangle etc were all vastly better mechanics than in the FIFA series at the time.
It was the greatest football game ever created especially for 2 player.
When you get really skilled at the game you can get great passing movement going.
There was nothing better than beating the likes of France when you were playing with Iceland or Luxembourg.

The best football game ever made i remember how much i played this when i was a child it was amazing game with fun gameplay, great atmosphere and good commentary this was where teams differences actually matters. I like this game more than the newest PES
They should re-release this classic in HD remastered graphics. The gameplay was amazing.

- Great shooter: Batistuta. Left foot favorite: Vieri (Italia), M'Boma
- Header: Dugarry (france)
- Control, pass, shoot...: Bergkamp (most easy to control overall)
- Nice crossing from the wings: Zenden ( for me 90% Zenden's pass turn into goals)

This is by Far the best Football game and by far better then any FIFA games or PES games especially the newer ones

PES was so far ahead at this point. Most PS1 games were barely playable nor only did this game play fantastically well it still is enjoyable to this day.

Nesse Ps1 Brasil,França, Argentina e Holanda eram bem melhores que os demais, você jogando com eles ficava tudo mais fácil.
I remember playing this game in 1998 as fifa's fan, but i was impressed by the way Konami made it, it's very tactical, while playing fifa 98, worldcup 98 and fifa 99, EA was still struggling to make fifa a realistic passing football game, fifa looked so impressive but gameplay was not good compare to ISS pro 98. But Fifa improved very much. But kids today who were born in 1998, those who knoe Real Madrid and Zidane as its manage, they are surprised to see him playing here.😂😂Yes this was Zidane's generation.

I remember a glitch in the game that almost gave me a heart attack. When the ball went out for throwing, the commentators voice glitched out and sounded like a demon.

Went to college and lived with my best mate the year this came out. It was like men behaving badly except with more gaming and less sex and drink.
We got the PS2 on release but since there was nothing to rival this game we kept playing the PS1!

O salto de evolução do International Super Star Soccer, de quando eu tinha o Super Nintendo, pra esse jogo do Winning Eleven, quando eu comecei a explorar o universo do PS1 foi de arregalar os olhos. Passava horas jogando a Master League, pra reunir dinheiro e comprar os craques pro meu time. Babangida, Ronaldo, Batistuta, Verón, Roberto Carlos... que época!
Verdade, os jogos de futebol de antigamente eram mais divertidos de se jogar, hoje eles estão muito realista não que isso seja ruim mas enfim.

2 things I love about this game, randomly sceaming the players' names like its christmas, and how every player from France had their name butchered by the commentators. I remember when I started playing this it was so hard because I had only played FIFA before. Also, if I'm not mistaken this game was the first of its kind to incorporate the concept of player growth.

Amazing gameplay simple fast lovely better than the new ones.
For me it was quite obvious that direct long passing was useless - I still can't call to mind any goals I scored after long passes. Also, Roberto Carlos was really cheat player in PES 1 and 2. He was extremely fast and had impressive power of shots. He could be left defender, winger or even forward - it simply didn't matter because there was no any kind of contemporary chemistry etc. He was definitely the best player in PES for PS One.
Great gameplay. The newer versions always enhanced the graphic but kept losing the basic gameplay and sensible understanding of soccer.
