99% of real photography is about recognising the potential of capturing an interesting or creative image. The other 1% is about the camera used to capture it. Most "photographers don't get that but Martin is demonstrating this in the video.
You deserve a million views and a million more. Your images were delightful and your message about cheap and cheerful cameras is spot on. All the best to you in the new year too.
Happy Holidays. I always love your pinhole photos and it was great to see them again in this video. The Holga photos with the street lamps were gorgeous as well.
Hi Martin, Congrats on your well deserved +1.000.000 views. I was amased at the quality of the holga pix ! There wasn't a single holga or zero pinhole shot i didn't like. The ICM, let's just say it's a thin line between a blurry foto and an impressionist image. I do my ICM photography on digital as i find there's a very low keeper rate and film is to expensive to waste on experiments with uncertain outcom. I tend to draw a line when the film costs more than the camera🙂.
Absolutely gobsmacked by the beauty of those pictures, perhaps you should do something with that Thank you for the inspiration, you did indeed (re)inspire me. All the best wishes, I have subscribed and I will be seeing more of you in 2024
Thank you for making this. I think an old Kodak Brownie has better build quality and three aperture size choices. The Brownies might take better looking pictures but they are somewhat difficult to point at the subject. Thanks again!
Another brilliant video Martin. Thanks so much for promoting the idea that unsharp images can carry great value in the way they produce soft and beautiful images. All the very best for 2024!
I am old. The sort of chap that doesn’t understand computers, and doesn’t really want to. I do know film, however, and was brought up to it. So, may I simply wish you and your family a happy Christmas and best wishes for the new year. May I also thank you for your splendid videos . They are a pleasure to watch.
Martin : Thank you , your kind and inspiring words , at 63 ... I cannot afford all of the new medium format or even 35mm equipment. I like film too so there Brother , we are same in that respect. Happy New Year Martin , and blessings 💪🏻 🙏🏻
Thanks Martin, Your videos are always interesting with a nice atmospshere. Like you always say, stay safe and keep up making your videos and happy new year.
The first shot of the street lamp is magical. It has a 1930's black and white movie feel, like Hitchcock in The 39 Steps. The ICM pictures are also inspirational bur, as with all of your shots your post-scanning skills are self evident. I would be interested to see the before and after shots to get a measure of just what can be done in the Henson style.
Martin : once again a Great Video and Echo your thoughts -- I have been in Photography since the School Photo-Soc in 1951 and trouble is I am too 'Technical' not helped by my Professional Jobs such as photographing Vulcan Bombers in factory with whole-plate wide camera while an army of 'Riveters' were shaking it and had to get everything SHARP then when I was at University College London had to provide SHARP Photomicrographs then as Freelance had to provide all SHARP Press Prints !
Inspiring to take my Holga out again also! You are right about sharpness is not all. The perfect imperfection of these cameras or pinhole cameras can give a very pleasing and interesting result. Keep up the good work. And all the best for 2024!
Great video and points all well made. Some amazing and beautiful images made from those inexpensive cameras. This is a well grounding on photography and for those (myself included) who pine for the latest, greatest, and expensive cameras. Consider me with two feet placed back firmly on the ground. Your wisdom is evident, as well as your keen eye for seeing, capturing, and developing beautiful images. Liked & Subscribed. Thank you.
that pinhole camera really blew my mind and raised new awareness. I'm having a couple 70s cameras. I'm thinking about buying me my first medium format camera soon, looking for a yashica mat. Hope it will serve me well, let me know if you have some advice what to look out for with them :)
WhooHoo! Congratulations! You are worth more than that! I love all of your old and mechanical cameras and your skill in developing film. Do you do your own darkroom printing? I haven’t seen all your videos yet. Thanks for sharing!
Great pictures Martin! This year I’ve also discovered the beauty of pinhole photography. I always been a sucker for sharp images but is something magical about pinhole. Happy New Year and keep up the good work!
Exceptional photos Martin ! Very inspiring to go for different looks in photography. Thankx for your videos in 2023 , looking forward to 2024. Happy new Year !!
Another great video Martin, I know exactly what you mean with different cameras, Like all the shots but not so with the ICM, for me it just does not intrest me, but thats why we all are different, it would be a boring world in photography if we was all liking the same images. Also I am just about to post on the BW forum how I have got round the same problem you have making 4x5 prints with the 4x5 camera as the enlarger. I had the same problem as you with my focus wheel being on the top and struggling to to look through my focus finder, just done a reversible mod to the foucus rack on my Intrepid, so I can focus it from below the lens.
Amazing bravo Martin just found your channel I have subscribed to it and look forward to seeing more I loved the pin hole shots stunning work I made my own camera years ago sadly its lost now I recently bought an Olympus OM1 and four lenses to try my hand at film again really enjoying the journey once again of shooting film.......
Beautiful shots, Martin. It all proves that a good photographer with a cheap camera is always going to get better images than a less than good photographer with the "best" equipment. I always smile when I see a camera with the legend "Optical Lens" printed on it. Happy new year!
Great set of photographs, Martin so thank you. I don't usually go for the ' alternative ' look as it can quickly become tiresome iMHO, but I loved the ones you showed and I also think that they break up the monotony of straight photography if used sparingly. Take care.
Beautiful images, Martin. I love the images created using my pinhole camera over all my other cameras. I much prefer the whole pinhole process ... it's all about composition, and sharpness is so.... overrated! 😁🥰 Happy New Year to you🎉
hi Martin, been following you for a while, can’t be sure, I know you tend to film except the infra red stuff, by the way I bought 2 of your infra red prints and they are really beautiful! Anyway have you ever thought of doing something on CCTV lenses on micro 4/3 cameras. I use a couple on my em1 s cropped to square in camera and you get a look very reminiscent of the Holga and with film prices now way cheaper.
Martin thanks to this man. Ibn al-Haytham Alhazen (Ibn Al-Haytham), whom D.J. Lovell 1 called the greatest authority on optics in the Middle Ages, lived around + 1000 on the Gregorian calendar, invented the pinhole camera, and explained why the image was upside down. @@martinhensonphotography

You have single handedly changed my mind about how good the holgas actually are! 📷
They can be frustrating at times but when you get a good image makes it all worth while, thanks for watching

One day it should get up there, hopefully , thanks
I love the ones from the Holga!! They remind me of pictorialist photos.
Holga and pinhole shots were my favourite.
I love them both, the ICM creates dreams
Hallo Martin,

Thank you sir, beautiful Holga images, great composition
Love the Holga photos. They have a great feel to them 😁👍
Wonderful images Martin. I am totally with you mate. I am not a big ICM fan but when I try it I go digital. Film too expensive for experimenting 🙄👍📸

amazing photos ❤ also, using b&w film instead of color film made a big difference on the mood of the subject
I agree BW works so well with the right subject matter
Hello, I have a perhaps very naive question: how do you make such frames for your wonderful photographs? Prosperity in the New Year Jarek from Poland
You have an very good eye. Beautiful photos. I especially like your pin hole images. Can you please tell me the name of your 6x6 pinhole camera? Thank you.
Its called the Zero 2000 from Zero Image in Japan
Thank you. I am going to get one and try it out. Sounds like an interesting challege. @@martinhensonphotography
