My idea of a nocturne is heavily influenced by Chopin (whom I know is not the originator of the genre, but perhaps provides the best examples). I still own a highly valued copy of Schrimer's edition of Chopin's complete Nocturnes in my library in that iconic yellow and green trim, though I rarely pick it up. I'm a fan of Czerny's non-didactic compositions. This is good.
Czerny composed these nocturnes, they were written before Chopin's, in fact Czerny taught Chopin in Paris to compose the nocturne form, playing Op.368 for him.
