    I've been an avid Czerny fan for about 3 years, but today I've discovered two masterpieces by him, both in f minor - this and the 4 hand Sonata Op. 10. Incidentally, my favourite Piano Sonata of his is the Sonata No. 3 in f minor. He was somehow very proficient at writing in f minor - possibly due to its association with Beethoven's Appassionata, a work by his teacher.

      I realized when i heard one of h I s piano voncerti thst history had been unkind,unfair and stolen many chances for music lovers to have great musical experiences ! Czerny knew and created much.

    Hey idiots, Chopin thought highly of Kalkbrenner. His Op 28 Preludes were influenced by Kalkbrenner and Bach. Chopin even dedicated his first piano concerto to KALKBRENNER.

    So a 28 or 29 year old touring virtuoso wrote this and every town he went to heard something new and now in 2025 all this finesse and class and wonderful technique of Mr.Howard Shelley cannot make this a Beethoven night nor give this any luster it never had and it does shine but only as well as its music and the brain and creative talenets of Herr Herz could. Stephen Heller and Kalkbrenner and Moscheles are finer composers and has more imagination but I'll have to wait till I see whathewas writing after 1875 after lifeand maturity . did he sTAY FIT I wonder so late in that day and age or teach ?

    Heller's harmonies are really interesting here as well as his texture and surprising rhthms . Heller wanted to be put in the highest ealms perhaps? Are there violin and piano concerti and Symphonies . His Beethoven variations show a thinker as do his Pagnini variations & the Schubert Erlkonig . Kalkbrenner and Thalberg too are more interesting than just being sidelines !

    Good grief this is the worst writing for the piano - or any instrument - ever. Every note is contrived. Every gesture is cliché. And for 1843, the harmonic language is juvenile and boring. It sounds like an exercise. Otherwise, this is a masterpiece.

      Kalkbrenner and Herz probably took too well to the "brilliant" style in vogue in their times. Imo, Kalkbrenner was stylistically flexible. Maybe you would want to check out his No. 16 Op. 143 etude.

    The part in thirds around 6:28 is so charming. Also extremely unexpected picardy third at the end of the first movement 😅. Honestly think the 3rd movement is the strongest, feels the most idiomatic and original.

  • @kristian6566
    @kristian6566 Місяць тому

    6:25 reminds me of some Chopin work, but I can't remember which one. (yes I know it are basically just chromatic thirds). I think the first movement is pretty good, especially the orchestral introduction. The second movement is rather pretty, but not so special. And the third movement, well, it feels like this typical Herzian "style brilliante": many fast runs but hardly any substance. Thanks for the upload anyhow!
