So I just got this headset yesterday and I am amazed by the audio and microphone. I don’t usually buy headsets like these so I would buy cheap $5 headsets. Finally got around to buying one of these and I’m stoked!
Got the GDL3 and honestly it feels like a breath of fresh air. Especially in the comfort department. Though recently it feels like sound randomly drifts off in one ear, but can be fixed by unplugging and replugging the headphones.
just got the open-back ones today.. im happy with it so far.. the gimmicky gaming features doesnt really help it much though.. what matters are the quality of the speakers and tuning are good..
Damn the reviews for these are a mixed bag. Proof that sound quality is purely subjective. Other reviews have seemed to love the comfort, sound quality and microphone quality
I'm honestly tempted to buy the open back ones. I need something with comfortable ears that won't hurt my cartilage after a while, and the headband can't put pressure on top of my head. The fact that you said they did not clamp hard on the head was another big plus in my books. I may give them a go. Plus i have a feeling that if i fiddle with an Eq or other sound program, i could probably make them sound better. Thanks for the review. P.s. since you seem to enjoy headphone reviews, the most comfortable wired gaming headset for me was the RIG 500 Pro HX, but my friends said my mic didnt sound great, but im Wondering if it was because i have them plugged directly into a knockoff wired xbox one controller. Lol. I also loved how the volume control was right at the plug-in. I'm curious if you've ever tried or reviwed those. 😊 They're not expensive, and they have other higher priced ones but all I care about is comort, not too tight and open back lets my ears breathe, the closed headsets, especially tight ones ,seem to cause a weird bad pressure inside my ear drum lol. I guess I'm picky haha.
Did you break them in? Out of the box they sound really harsh. After breaking them in they are awesome. All the points you mentioned get waaaaay better after break in
@@RatzerLeafby breaking them in, what he means is headphones generally take some time for the drivers to get to its optimum performance level after purchasing them brand new. I think generally it takes about 20+ hrs of constant playing before the headphones are at its best moving forward, but that varies company to company.
Its not a horrible sound. These were my first open back headphones and ive enjoyed them. For certain games theyve been good. Ready or Not Lost Ark Guild Wars 2 theyre good. Bf4 not so much. I ended up biying the drup hd58x Jubilee and i fuxking love them lol. Different price bracket though.
I still have the ATH-ADG1X to this day, and they still work phenomenally. I pair them with an Astro Mixamp and use them on my PC. That being said, is it worth it to go from the ATH-ADG1X to the ATH-GDL3?
Dang I just ordered the closed back last night, not a single review said they had trouble hitting the driver walls. I really hope mine don't lol. Thanks for the review though
Let me know what you think of them! Like I said, I don't think the driver wall thing is a deal breaker because the clamping force is so light, but I preferred the comfort of the open-back version.
It's a pity that they're not that great because they definitely look good. Out of interest, what's you main headset that you use for gaming Jordan? Still the Philips X3?
@@9to5toys I've just added the H6 Pro Closed Back to my headphone collection. It's being delivered on Friday. I hope i'm impressed as i've wanted to try them for a long time.
These arrived a day early. Using them with a GSX 1000. They sound really good. Very impressed. Just wondering if you've used the GSX 1000 and if you have would you rate the GSX 300 more as it has the EPOS Gaming Suite.
I'm so glad you did this review! thank you great video!! Sound wise, MMX 100 or GL3 close back? I have tiny ears so i think comfort isnt a big worry for me mostly worried about the sound
Thanks! Strictly sound-wise, I'd go for the MMX 100 if you like a little extra low-end. But, I think you'd be happy with the GL3, too. Hope that helps!
@@9to5toys Im looking for light weight and comfort just for watching videos and studying at my desk. I have a bigger head so would gl3 or h6pro be better?
How is it for just music? I don't use it for gaming, but just for music, the open back specifically? I am treble sensitive and love things like the HDXX but want better soundstage.
I own them both, I like them both, they're both with the money, but truth be told comparing any gaming headset to the PC38x is almost unfair. Lol That headset gives even the HD 800s a worthy challenge for a tiny fraction of the price.
Epos h6pro open takes that crown now a d there cheap very cheap add a pair of fiio jade jt1s you got two sets that will give you everything you ever need@@nomadblack1776
@@9to5toys Hello Jordan. I purchased these a while back. I also thought the mids sounded recessed. Did you use with an amp? I didn't but every other reviewer said the mids were pushed forward on the Gdl3 🧐?
Light it's when the high notes are brighter and louder than low notes and for the dark it's the same but the inverted, it's when low notes are louder than other notes, this is more common than a light sound. Hope it's helpful for you
You should try their AD700 its got bigger drivers still open back over air but no mic but the sound stage and mids are epic. Did you do a break in on them as hear mids are little too bright until break in.
the AD series is excellent.. but i got this gdl3 out of curiosity.. its really not as bad as this review makes it sound.. however being sold as a 'gaming headphone' its not a really fair comparison to their main line of headphones 🌝
@@jub8891 Did you happen to own the AD700X before buying the GDL3? Curious how the GDL3 compares for FPS gaming, but can't find anyone who has actually compared the two headsets.

how do they compare to the ath-ad700x? the ad700x have a very wide sound stage, do these headsets come close to this?
Here for the same question as well. Hopefully someone Here knows about this matter
did your ear hit the wall of the driver on the gl3's??
How do these stack up against the H6Pro?
Is there a wireless open back version of audio technicas with a mic?

The H6pro open is the best gaming headset available currently
I'm definitely a fan of that one
Bingo add a set of fiio jt1 closedbacks a d you have a 2x set that is perfection
that microphone is garbage.
Open back are never going to be better for audio quality, closed back is more immersive
Yeah OK mister pro
Lol no 😂😂😂😂 99% of every high end headphone is open for a reason
