I know it's only a small detail but the fact they put a backplate on really puzzled me at first but the more I think about is it actually sense. I remember John Mayer saying he specifically wanted no cover for quick adjustments but that means the paint work has to be flawless because you can see it not a problem on the core range. On the import model I can't see them spending the time to get the paint perfect because time is money. So it makes sense to spend less time on the finish and just use a backplate.
@John D All the colours are disgusting to me haha. Where is the olympiyc white, the Shell pink, the Surf green, Daphne blue, and even gold finishes? What were they thinking!??
I just want to say thank you so much for emphasizing the weight in your review. Most reviews don't go over the weight of a guitar. I had initially given up on this guitar because I saw 2 other reviews on UA-cam say that their Silver Sky SE was 8lbs. But now it's my dream guitar if I can get one as light as 7lbs or maybe even lighter.
Wow ordered the same exact color. I sold my core silver sky last year. I really regretted that decision. I stopped playing it for a moment and then fell in love with it as I cleaned it up to ship. Anyway these are difficult to obtain now . I am in the back order line. This appears to be an incredible value at $850. I hope it plays as effortless as the core.
Mine was on back order too but just after 2 days it’s now shipped and will be at my house on Wednesday so hang in there I honestly thought it was going to take a month but I just can’t wait to get my hands on it cause it will be my first PRS
If you buy a guitar from Sweetwater over a specific price point, and the SE meets those criteria, they make a 55-point inspection that includes checking and adjusting the intonation of the guitar you buy.
That is correct but they say themselves that it is an inspection and not a set up. I haven't had much luck with that lately. I hope they take my feedback and improve the process.
Great seeing your initial reactions to the Silver Sky SE. You chose the color I did. I purposely chose to wait for the second shipment to arrive for a multitude of reasons. Unlike you, I "hate" GigBags!!!! I want a "Real Hard Case." I've been playing since 1962 and I choose "not" to cause unwarranted damage to my guitars by using GigBags. Just like "everything" with guitars, it's "all" a matter of "personal preference!!!!" I'll tote a real hard case any day over a GigBag. I really like seeing your unboxing because I wanted to see a "real world" unboxing version of the Dragon Fruit color. Thank you for the unboxing video. I think you know I've been looking forward to your initial impressions "right out of the box!!!" Looking forward to your follow-up!!!
The foam around the headstock ...that is a nice touch. Want to protect those plastic tuners🤦♂️ as well as the foam around the five way switch that Mary Spender says broke on her US silver sky.
Purchased a moon white one yesterday that was in hand at the dealer. Will be receiving it in a week or so. Can’t wait to compare it to my core model SS and the JM fender sig model
Just an observation...Whenever I receive a guitar, I "immediately" unbox it "Outside" in the environment where it has been during the entire shipping process to make sure there is no damage and no problems. I do "not" care how cold it is outside. If the guitar is delivered when it's cold? I subject myself to the same environment the guitar is in. Then, once I'm sure there is no shipping damage, I move it to the garage for 24 hours, minimum!!! And then, and only then, do I even try to move it inside and give it another 24 hours minimum adjustment period. Then and only then do I attempt see how it how it plays. Just a bit of information for those like me that have been "burned" in the past because I neglected to report shipping damage "IMMEDIATELY" upon receipt!!!!
That’s a great tip! This guitar was left in the building so I didn’t have a chance to do that. Just have to avoid sudden shocks to the guitar and also this came from Sweetwater and I know they would take care of any issues with the shipping. Their customer service is great.
Amazon sells veneer calipers with carbon fiber tips for around $12 then you can get a measurable number for the 1st and 12th frets. Good weight for a s style guitar. Thanks for the upload.
New to your channel and really enjoyed your review. I bought a PRS Silver Sky SE in the same color from Sweetwater! Matter of fact, it was just delivered so I'm waiting for it to acclimate a bit (it's very cold here). Looking forward to the playing review and finding out if you got your Sweetwater candy, lol (@Lisa Gleaton 's comment)
think you got your truss rod cover mixed up with your trem cover also the truss rod cover is dead giveaway that its an se as the usa model has more of a bullet style truss rod cover at the head stock
the se would obviously be lighter since it has cheaper materials. every cheap guitar i mod ends up weighing more than pound than before poplar guitars do weigh a lot in my experience so im surprised by that a bit
Got mine yesterday too, opened today and it exciting and also a bit of a disappointment. I own a lot of PRS guitars and have been playing them since 1987. I had Assad sold it. The new radius intrigued me. After opening the neck had a bad bow and the bridge wasn't decked. It needed a complete setup. The nut although thick ,the spacing is not cut well..after and hr of adjustments, its dialed in. To be honest Fender's mexican plasters are better.
I don’t agree. I think the quality is great for the price compared to other guitars. Can you recommend some other high quality guitars in this price range? I am open to trying others to compare. Thanks!
I am sure it is a fantastic guitar but I don’t actually like any of the colors offered and dark Pink is my least favorite 😐 the other 3 colors remind me of Home Depot colors like something I would paint my garage door and shutters 🤦🏻♂️ I have purchased several guitars from Sweetwater and they have never disappointed me 🥂
To clarify. When I get a guitar with a hard shell case I will usually end up having to store the case and then purchase a gig bag so I end up with both. I would like it if companies offered an option for a hard shell case or a gig bag when purchasing as I realize there is a need for both.
funny that people will pay that much ($849.00) for a guitar built in the same factory, and uses the same wood as the Indonesia fender squier that sells for $149.00. just because of the name.
These are great guitars but as great as they are I personally can't get away with those headstocks. They're the ugliest thing. A guitar needs to be cool and make you feel cool. It's part of the experience. That's a subjective thing and everyone to their own but these PRS guitars just don't do it for me.
Now that is an unboxing! Finally, an unboxing video that is both interesting and informative without needless drama or delay.
Thank you!
Parting Shot...Looking forward to the Live Sliver Sky SE Live-Cast at 7:00 your time Friday!!!!
It should be very in-depth. Hope to see you there!

Great point James!
the hype is real. Not a fan of the colors on the SE but the tone and feel is more important.
I presume there will be more colors in the future…
@John D Some people like green guitars. I usually like traditional styles but I am enjoying changing it up.
@John D All the colours are disgusting to me haha. Where is the olympiyc white, the Shell pink, the Surf green, Daphne blue, and even gold finishes? What were they thinking!??
The colors are actually wayyyy better in person. It looks phenom.

You’re welcome. I am sure you can find one that is around 7lbs (maybe less). Good luck!
Hey Aaron. I like the colour. It reminds me of the Fender Custom Shop colours they use to look mimic aged guitars - like a faded Fiesta Red.
Thanks. Yes I agree!
Very keen to get one and especially this color.

Tremolo cavity cover, not truss rod cover

Where do they put the tremolo?
It’s in the gig bag.
Does it comes with a whammy bar?
Yes it does but it ships ‘decked’ so you have to adjust it if you want to use it. That is how John Mayer has his guitars.
