When I conducted funeral services for veterans at Arlington, the staff treated me with elaborate, genuine courtesy and thoughtful support throughout. They are indeed true patriots. The thought of someone bullying one of them triggers disgust.

As an Aussie, I am absolutely baffled by the US electoral "system". Every state makes up its own rules and processes? The electoral college??? WTF! It doesn't seem democratic at all!
Simply put, it harks back to the idea that the US is a confederation of little countries, called states. Each state runs their own election however they deem fit. But then the electoral college was established to make sure slaves wouldn't outnumber "real voters" but big states would still get the benefit of a large population of slaves in their allocations. It's sick. But it makes a higher chance of Republicans winning, so they won't vote to abolish it.

The crazy thing about the EC is that it was designed to prevent a few states from determining the outcome of elections, and at the time of the 3/5ths Compromise.
