- Well… considering I hadn’t jumped Magic for over two months before this lesson and have never jumped in this saddle, I think it’s fair to say I was a little concerned when the instructor suddenly announced we would be doing a Chase me Charlie competition 😂 Fortunately we started off with a little cross pole so I could get my act together and see how Magic was feeling (it was only two weeks ago that he bronced round the school in his old saddle!). Unsurprisingly, Magic was very much up for jumping and during the warmup I realised I had nothing to worry about. By the end of the lesson, I had a massive smile on my face, Magic was rather pleased with himself, and it was a perfect way to end 2019!
We didn’t do the Chase me Charlie as a proper competition as although everyone jumped successfully in previous rounds, not everyone wanted to jump to the top of the blocks, so it was a bit more relaxed than a real comp! We obviously also couldn’t go any higher than the top of the small triangular blocks, so the instructor also made the fence wider with every round - I’ve jumped higher and wider than this separately before, but I’m pretty sure this is the ‘chunkiest’ I’ve jumped as a height/width combination, and certainly the biggest I’ve jumped on Magic! I haven't really lost any confidence jumping recently, but at the same time we rarely get to jump fences of this size in the riding school, so I'm always a bit on edge these days when the poles go up!
When it came to the final round with the biggest fence, I completely messed up our distance (as always), but Magic being the superstar he is flew over it easy peasy without even touching a pole. The last time we jumped this height together was 11 months ago and we completely demolished the first fence and knocked the pole on the second, so for Magic to jump over this wider fence, from a terrible stride while the useless human got left behind and STILL make a beautiful shape over it honestly made me feel so proud of him! He’s come so far over the last year in terms of technique and it's days like this that really make me realise how much he has changed! 💗

Yeah same, I don't have anyone to do it with as none of my horsey friends can jump yet. Or the ones thatf can jump are doing over a metre and I'm only doing 76cm tops

QOTD: I’ve only done Chase me Charlie once and it was A LONG time ago. I was in a pony called Buddy. He is an awesome pony to jump. It’s a shame my confidence wasn’t very good at the time because I could’ve jumped so much higher but looking back I did really well.

QOTD: Yes I have and I rode my current horse teg and when we did the lap of honour we bucked and bucked and bucked but we jumped 3"3 together fir the first time.

Qotd: I did a Chase Me Charlie on one of the "meaner" riding school horses at my barn, widely known for his napping and stubbornness! As few other people know, he actually has brilliant scope, and we won the game! Never judge a horse by its cover, you might just win a Chase Me Charlie 😂
AOTD: Yes I've done Chase me Charlie but my horse threw a tantrum and knocked the second jump which was like 30 centimeters 😂😂

AOTD: I did chase me Charlie before at my local stables and I reached 1m15cm on a 14hh pony🤣 I was delighted with myself cause I was on my favourite pony and that’s the highest I’ve ever jumped before❤️
When I was about 8 we did a chase me Charlie on my little 12.2h Dartmoor who we had broken to be a lead reign pony. He also hatted jumping, we were doing it with some of the best jumpers at the yard but somehow we won!
QOTD: I have done quite a few chase me charlies with my own pony but the last time I did one I had a horrific fall. Being thrown into a wall from a flat out gallop from a thoroughbred isn't fun but thank the Lord I was wearing a helmet and body protector so I was 100% fine, just had a bit of a confidence knock. But I recently had a huge confidence boost getting double clear in 80 cm. I hope this inspires people to go for their dreams! 💙

AOTD: I personally have done quite a few chase me Charlie's, but my top two were on a bay mare called Jojo which we jumped about 1 meter and won it as the others didn't wanna jump the meter. Then, coincidentally, the other was on a 14.3hh piebald cob called Magic! In the one with magic we reached about 1.10m and he flew it with air to spare, while the other girl who was in had a refusal, then knocked it.

QOTD: Yes, I have. It was on my throughbred. We jumped 1.60 but the highest he has jumped with me on him is 1.70 so he flew over the jump
QOTD : no , I have not learned how jump yet because I do dresssage as well as gonna be starting to jump too. Ive jumped cross rails but nothing to big :)
EQINE WISHES ** cross rails and cross poles are great for dressage pony’s I think you would be great I jump but not to big but I do a bit of everything ☺️
QOTD: I've never done a chase me Charlie, but i have done a few 'block eliminations'. Basically, there are 5 blocks set out, and like chase me Charlie you come jump over them one by one. The only difference is, instead of putting it higher, it gets skinnier as the blocks get taken away! I've won one by getting down to a single block!! 💕💕

QOTD: I did Chase me Charlie oncr but it was a long time ago and I finished about 80 cm, it was very high for me then haha

AOTD: yes I have done chase me Charlie before. About a month ago. I rode a horse that usually goes hunting and is good at jumping hedges but when it comes to poles in the arena, he forgets and he tries to brush a giant it with his feet😂💖 but we reached up to 95cm which is both out highest!!

I was on Ginger (chestnut gelding approx. 14.2hh and 16/17yrs old) I jumped around a meter on him 1.10 and I knocked 1.15 if I remember correctly 😂😅 highest I’ve ever jumped and probably won’t do it again because I don’t have a horse to do it on 😬😂🤷🏼♀️ and the most scary part was it was a wall that you can build up like the puissance wall that terrified me even more than the height cause I didn’t want to know how tall the jump was 😂😂

I am 11 years old and have a amazing 13.2 pony called Peaches (my profile picture is me galloping on the beach with her. Anyway I have done a chase me Charlie before and my instructor kinda forgot I was on a pony and I was only young but I needed up doing 80cm my biggest achievement now from time to time I am doing shows! And watching your channel has inspired me to do all this jumping

I want to do chase me Charlie one day too! Maybe when I have friends over! I have 2 horses, ones 23 and loves jumping too much he always bolts so I don’t jumps much on him and my other one is 18 but not a very good jumper but we are working on him he’s like a project horse! I would do it by my self on my new horse but he runs away when I’m hopping on and normally if I know a jump or something I have to put it back up by my self so it would be very hard and annoying if I had to hop on and off 😂

And yes to the Chase me charlie question on Mr Rodge many times up to 1.20m when we were both younger and I had no fear but we’re back up to 1.15 now and feeling more comfortable than we used to at that height. And I’ve jumped 3ft3 (1m) on little Sam in a Chase me charlie in the past 😊 x
Yeah she did! Nice to see me fail at striding from two different angles 😂 You and Rodge definitely both looked at ease in those 1.15 pics from the other week, he makes a much better shape now too. It must be nice to look back and see how much your improvements on the flat and 'normal' height over the years have influenced your bigger jumping too! Sam is such a legend 😍 x

Saw your riding gloves at 0:16 and I have those exact riding gloves 🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪 they are so comfortable. I had been struggling to find ones that fit me as I’ve got small hands but the width of my hands don’t fit every style and someone at the riding shop recommend those ones and they are the best, not only are they comfortable but they fit perfectly.

Lilia Esposito We do our own warmup based on which horse we are riding/how each horse is feeling so that we can get the best out of the horse during the ‘main exercise’ part of the lesson. The instructor will drift about and teach us individually as she spots things we need help with during the warmup so everyone gets individual help/attention, then we do the ‘main’ part of the lesson together :-)

If you go over the jump, you go to the next round where they increase the height of the jump........

Marie-Eve Caron Yes, but it’s absolutely tiny (half the size of this arena) so we try not to use it unless we really have to! :-)
PonyCam I live in Canada and we get lots of snow so we are all most always in ours indoor arena. Anyway. It would be cool to see a barn tours of the place where you ride

Many years ago when I was ridding more, I did a chase me Charlie. I was on a palamino mare she was probably 14hh? Maybe smaller, I was a lot younger then
Omg legit the first pony i have ever ridden AKA my first ever riding lesson, that horse gave me legit mental trauma, but i cant really get mad at him cause ponies are so god damn cute!
