Dash lights out. After watching, I realized that tail lights & parking lights went too. The tail light fuse was blown. Changed it, got dash lights and parking light back. I would have never figured that out without this video.
I've been using AAW wiring systems for many years for all my projects. Best system there is on the market. I will never use any other brand. AAW it is!
Great animation! Quick question: how is the headlight switch grounded? On our 1980 Camaro, it's mounted in a plastic dash with no apparent connection to ground.
Maybe you've figured it out since you posted the comment, but I'll reply anyway in case it helps others. There's a grounding wire with an attached washer (basically a giant wide ring terminal) that is pinched between the headlight switch and the plastic dash (ring terminal goes in front of the headlight switch body around where the knob would be inserted), it grounds the headlight switch body to a reliable chassis ground of the car. I don't know the name of the part but you could fashion your own ground between the headlight switch body to a chassis ground. The headlight switch also gets a ground on the male spade connector that's in the white ceramic, typically not numbered on the 7- or 8-pin headlight switch, but this is for the dome light. I was digging around in my 1972 Chevelle and found this wire sitting loose behind the dash and reconnected it.
@TVOmp3 have a coupke question for you plz.. have 2 wierrd things happening. My high beams stay on with the low beams somtimes after I set up relays for my headlights.. but I know I wired them right..and then the headlights started comming on in the parking postion... I'm lost at what's going on its such a simple circut lol
so you can use the headlights when the key is of as the unfused wire controls them and parking lights work only when the key is on (fised power supply). Do i understand correctly? i am rewiring my truck and planing to use a GM switch. If my understanding is right i am going to wire tail and park together with dasch us unfused and my headlights us fused. Do not want them to work without the key on. Will that be good?
I have 1971 caddy when I turn head lights on with low beam on . The when I push dimmer switch in the floor to turn high beams on all 4 head lights are on low beam and high beam at same time this isn’t right is it
Im confuse. Does the switch need to be grounded or will it ground through the mounting? mine is only connected to a plastic support held in by the screw around the knob.
So the dome light is a ground completing a circuit, so is it possible to make that a dimmer switch? If I hooked the dimmer to power and that ground to ground the dimmer to make it work? Possible? Reason I'm asking is I have an AC AC Cobra and no room for a floor mount dimmer switch.
I'm having a problem with my 68 chevelle I buy a kit from your in 2016 I put the new wire harnessr kit in my 68 chevelle in 2016 now its 2023 and my parking fuse keep blowing I checked all the wire and I can't find why it keep blowing
Hi, i'm thinking of installing an automatic turn on/off kit to my headlight switch. How do you recommend that I connect it to the switch using relays? Thanks

I wish mine was that easy...BULLY 4 U
Wow, finally a usefull video on UA-cam! Exactly what I needed!
Me too.
Best video by far. Straight to the point.
this is beyond superb, I can't imagine how two people gave it a thumbs down, I want to personally examine their vehicle wiring capabilities, LOL
Finally, UA-cam found exactly what I needed.
Thank You - Just what I needed!

Great video! Love the diagrams as it doesn't come in handy knowing what each circuit is doing
Wow this is a Great Video guys. very informative and easy to understand.

@@TVOmp3 Thanks for the high quality answer! We rigged up our own dedicated ground wire to the metal body of the switch, much as you described.

Thank you so much, I hope to memorize the wire code , making my life easier , I hate the schematics and I am not good with them.
ML btw
Why is the red 12V battery wire unfused

I'm having the issue of blowing the taillight fuse when I turn them on. Could that mean a bad switch?
So if you're not using courtesy lamp switches (47 KB International) do you still have to ground the switch? Or is it case grounded?
Thanks, this was a great video.
Love this video!
How big is The fuse for The orange 12v power?
Is the wire really unfused? That seems dangerous.
ONE is ONE is not
My door jam light works but not headlight or taillights. So I need to change the switch or lights?
Do ya'll have a video on door switches and dome light circuits?
I need that same thing too.
Will this switch work on a 62 c10 with stock harness? and will it still make the marker lights come on at the same time with the headlights?
Thanks
Is Courtesy ground wire ground ? when knob is pulled out at more than first position?
Check your switch,it grounds when rotated to left
I have a 82 S10 is there any way to change the dimmer switch from the column and put one in the floorboard

Check if it is grounding out...follow+ wire
Great video. Can you explain how the light dimming rheostat works? Thanks.
its based on resistance in the wire looking spring from compression and expansion.

Whats the difference from ds 155 and ds 177 gm switch?
This is awesome thanks.
🏆 My 1983 Buick Electra Park Avenue sedan headlights are flickering so I have to play with this knob & wiggle
Greetings friend, could you share the diagram, I would really appreciate it
My switch seems to do nothing...it's always dims...hmm...
This video is handy...like a pocket in a shirt.(or $$ in your wallet)
