Car Key fob button repair

- The video is about repairing Key fobs.
The particular key I am repairing is from a peugeot 406, but many citroens and other peugeot model have the same or very similar case and the technique used can be applied to many other car keys. Just dont over heat the plastic.
Take care.
The buttons on this case are actually bonded in place so a new key fob is required to repair it.
The one I used was bought via an internet auction site for a few pounds
I created this video with the UA-cam Video Editor ( / editor ) - Авто та транспорт
Thank you so much!!! Saved me money I really didn't have. Only spent £2.75 on Ebay and transferred everything. Initially forgot about the transponder and couldn't start the car. Was advised by so many to get the key programmed and what note at an approved Peugeot service. I just took the car for a drive with my new case.I'm glad I came across your video!!!! 😃😃
Bugger, good that I could still retrieve the old casing from the rubbish and get the transponder from it. Big thanks, fella.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I spent ages scratching my head wondering why my Peugeot wouldn't start after changing the fob casing. Thanks to you everything works brilliant, and yes I had missed the transponder chip! Cheers.
Super video - I followed the steps that you demonstrated and everything worked perfectly first time. I know that I would have struggled otherwise. I had no clue about the transponder until I saw you transfer it here. Well done!
Just changed my fob, and I only did it due to the help your video gave me. I only paid £2. Thank you very much.
thank you for showing me, my fobs was damaged and i got one from amazon, and as per your instructions the fobs is working perfect.
Thanks for this great video. Sadly I spotted it too late. I'd already shelled out well over
£100 and lost the use of my car for the best part of a day!
I did try though. I bought a replacement fob for £3.45 on line but couldn't work out how
to swop it over!
Anyway, I'm quite sure you have helped many others.
Excellent video by the way. Very good picture and very clear instructions.
Hi Drew, The circuit board and transponder have to be transferred over. On ebay you can get new button micro switches which are easy to solder on if you have a steady hand and a keen eye. Hope this helps
You saved my life did not know about transponder chip
Thanks a lot for this, saved me the expense of garage costs and I learnt something that I can actually do for myself for my car :-)
Many thanks, Bunnybr, for this really useful and instructive video. I followed it faithfully, even as far as resorting to the gas hob, and everything worked more or less beautifully. In truth, even after heating the key, its particular shape meant I was unable to push it into the fob as much as would have been desirable, but snug housing was nevertheless safely achieved via a drop of superglue. Saved me a shed-load of money. Many thanks once again.
Many thanks for a good guide. I did as you showed and I succeeded. I wish you and your family happiness and success in all matters.
My button went the other day, too. Came across this video by accident and bought the casing after watching! Thanxxm8
I didn't know how to remove the pin that holds the key in place. Your video helped me fix my two 807 fobs. Delphi manufactures the electronics, seems like they use tiny weak microswitches on purpose so you have to buy a new key after 4-5 years.
great stuff..thanks for going to the trouble to film it & sharing your knowledge...cheers.
Thank for the video found it very useful, I had the problem with the key thickness the only difference I did is to grind the key on my table grinder as I have no gas and am all electric in my house. Kind regards Andrew.
great vid good ideas looked at some of your other vids keep up the good work
That was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanx mate, I changed my cover years ago and it stopped working but i didnt know about the transponder lucky I kept the old casing moved the transponder and its all good many thanx.
+David Holliday yes i did the same would not start the car with out the transponder citoeron c3
Excellent explanation - many thanks. Why Peugeot can't supply and outer casing without wanting to give you a new expensive key that needs programming, I just don't know!!
Great instruction video, worked for me, thanks.
So when i bought my car, the key provided had the 'lock' and 'unlock' buttons missing. So since, ive been inserting the key to open and lock my car. I want to buy a new case. My current case has a screw attaching key to case. Can you please direct me how i will change everything over please. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Gordon... very helpful!!
Excellent, thanks for this.
brilliant.. many thanks for this...
I did as shown but although I don't remember taking transponder out the fob opens doors but won't start engine unless I use other key first. However it will only start car once. Advice really appreciated.
+Simon Spencer got be be the transponder mine did the same citoeron c3
+holly anna it was the transponder. Just couldn't believe how small it was. I actually returned to my old key and found it still in there 😬 thank you
if you look Long enough you can also find the case like the original one in China too. i recently changed the key from my berlingo. there was no pin but i could just plug it in the new case. thats cheaper than making a new key bit. or otherwise i had to cut the old bit so that it fits in the cases with the screw. the newer berlingo bits are not flat.

followed the instruction in the vid and thanks to bunnybr saved myself £108 thank you very much
My original key has the small button broken off the housing and the metal switch on the circuit board has came lose and came off. Would I be able to just buy a new key off eBay and simply swap the transponder from my original key over to the new one? Or does the original circuit board need to be swapped over too?
Hi, when I buyed pug 406 main key with buttons for lock/unlock were broken and non functional, presume because of battery, it was old, so I'm using spare key which does not have buttons for lock/unlock instead of that I have additional little device like a pendant attached to the spare key for locking/unlocking my car which is part of alarm system because when locking car with that device alarm is activated. Now my question is if I want to buy new car key fob like in the video to replace old one will I be able to lock/unlock and activating alarm in the same time like mentioned additional device or maybe I won't be able because of that small device which changed locking in some way so now is only possible to use that little device?
Sorry if question is a little complicated I hope that you will understand it.
Do you have any info on electric windows for the Peugeot 406?
I get a click coming from inside the drivers door but no window movement.
Is it possible to put the new face with the key and transponder ?? Or would the two not fit together?
great vid - thanks for saving my family 150 quid! :)
So if you get the same type (screw or push) it'd be enough to replace the top part, right?
a real man.
perfect...thank you!
where do you but the replacement from. thankyou.
Thank's Awesome man...
I did this great stuff it works to
Thanks!
Haha I like they way you pronounce Peugeot. "Pew-shoe"
I tried , my best.l I completely messed it up.. even bought soldering iron.. advice safety first please wear goggles glasses or any Other eyewear.. always eyewear protection safety first.. good luck with circuit board replacement I’m losing my. will to live lol happy go lucky it’s either that or to complete insanity.. take care folks have a wonderful new year 2022
Thank you :-)

hi. my button on the motherboard broke off, so i ordered a brand new motherboard and followed your step and put it in my key case, it still isn't working. do you have any idea what I need to do 😣
You may have to reprogram it. Remove the key battery then re-install it.
Switch on the ignition just before or start the engine. Immediately press and hold the lock button for 10 seconds, Switch off. Wait another 10 seconds before testing. If your motherboard is from a second user key, there are several different types and there is also primary and secondary boards. It is best to repair the original. Hopefully just programming it will work for you.
If you still have the old motherboard, it may be better for you to have a new button soldered on, look for an auto locksmith local to you
Why not get the new key blank cut instead of messing with a hot stove??
The key blank may look the same but is thinner than my key blank. At the time of making my key, there was no other cheap alternatives. I had a problem. This was my solution and I hope it helped people get over a similar problems or give folks ideas.
Just ordered a replacement of eBay.. I have a question.. Since my problem is only with the lock button couldn't I just replace the new button cover onto the existing key.. With out having to switch everything over? Would that work? Thanks for any help in advance.
If your key is held in with screw then just replace the top button cover. If it is the pin and plastic holder type then follow the video instructions. There are 406 cases where the buttons are replaceable, but the buttons alone cost £6 and the buttons are not always correct. I had to buy 3 different ones before getting one that fitted properly. The key I fixed in the video is still working and was very easy to do, as you see in the video. Let me know how you get on.
bunnybr I sure will keep you posted. Thanks for your response

Hi. My key button cover was lost and accidentally the contact pin (the little bar with the tiny black rubber dot in its center: I don't know how it is called technically) was lost too. How could I replace it? TY.
fustigamatti I have just done one of these micro switches this morning. They are available on ebay and very easy to fit with a small point soldering iron. The only issues I have found is when the whole tab on the board has been ripped off along with the switch. However even with this if you lightly scrape the coating off the track you can still get it re-soldered. Some super glue run under the switch once it has been soldered gives it some extra support to stop it pulling off again.
bunnybr Hi. The complete switch is still in place; what it misses is the little strip of metal (of whatever it is) with the small dot over it.
fustigamatti I made a video to show how repaired a micro switch ua-cam.com/video/y9z_rpH4i8U/v-deo.html. I hope it helps.
bunnybr sorry for the late reply. well, i wouldn't make some mistake with soldering, so I had thought to apply some diy replacement.
I'm thinking of just buying a new case w/ blade and getting the new blade cut instead of transferring the old blade.
That will work if the key blank is the same thickness. The problem is there is 2 different widths of keys. Both look identical until you closely compare them.
Genius
Hi great vid, whee do I buy the housing?
Lots of places sell them search google: key fob.
I got mine on ebay.
