This is a great video, finding the balance between damage and healing is crucial for a support. I know it's a meme, but "My team doesn't need healing if the enemy is dead" is a real thing. Zen may have low healing output, but he makes enemies play so much more carefully do his high damage. When the enemy is playing more careful, they cannot be as aggressive and they cannot do as much damage. There are so many more examples too.
My favorites are probably Bap's Immortality and Mercy's rez. It just feels so nice when you come in and save the day by either bringing a teammate back to life or saving your team from an ult. I once resurrected a Reaper, and though I died shortly after, he killed the other team and saved the day (we where on overtime) I couldn't resist but feel a little proud of myself when he got a POTG, knowing that I helped at least a little bit. Also, i just love the feeling when your Immortality saves the team, though the fact that they are usually low on health after that makes it pretty intense.
I think way too many players focus on this utility/damage stuff instead of healing. I believe this is why the tank role has the shortest que times. I've been playing a few MOBA's and realized well-designed healers will; get value for giving value (i heal myself by healing you), and give heals by getting damage (if I land this attack cooldown, it also heals my allies). Spreading the healer's value and rewards across the healer and their teammates is how you make random matchmaking fun - because playing selfishly is a lot more rare, and thus your tank que isn't 40 seconds.
Support main here, mostly Ana and Mercy My favorite support ability is fade. It's a strange pick but it's amazing. It's a cleanse, one of the few abilities that can escape flux/graviton surge, makes her excellent at stalling, easy to reposition, and fade jump adds some tech into the move.
I'm a support player, id have to say, my favorite utility is definitely Discord orb, or biotic grenade, the both shut down healthy teams fast, and can be the catalyst for a team fight win, a close second is Moira's fade and Baptiste's regen burst, great abilities, and can help you get in and out of fights.
I really like how viable Moira and Ana are but I still main mercy. They can both dps and put out huge healing numbers and provide extreme utility with their abilities. Moira can always be aggressive with her team and dps to get back her healing and ana just has probably the best kit in the game.
I'm not sure i can call it my favorite but from a game design perspective, Moira's Orb is a fascinating tool. You have to decide which orb you use and a 10 second cooldown makes it an important decision. And it's not as black and white of a choice as you might first think. In those 10 seconds, which orb gets you the most ult charge, or can your orb secure a kill for your team? I think everyone is aware of how a damage orb can confirm a kill but a healing orb can double your heals per second on a target, providing vital seconds for them to finish a target. Every 10 seconds you decide based on those factors whether you heal, damage or save it for a few seconds when you might need it for the team. While I'm talking about her abilities, I should mention how her Fade is similar to Guardian Angel in terms of decision making. "if I use this now, will I land in a spot that's safe for the entire cooldown?". The difference is in which situations make you ask yourself this question. because the cooldown is 6 instead of 2, the question is generally more impactful.
I think people are so quick to call support the most 'difficult' role because they want to show sympathy for those who do play support and are blamed despite not being at fault. On ladder specifically Support is one of the easier roles. I think the most difficult role on ladder is DPS because you're the one who has to have the mechanical skills to secure eliminations and do damage. I see a lot of Tank or Support players play mechanical heroes like Widowmaker or Ashe and completely throw due to their accuracy. Now, DPS is the most fun role to most players and the most popular, but just because it's more fun and more popular doesn't make it any less difficult to do well. To make it more clear, I think the hardest role on ladder are skill based DPS heroes like Widowmaker, Ashe, Genji, etc. not necessarily heroes like Junkrat, Symmetra, Reaper, etc. I think a lot of support is just healing for most ranks. If you can heal well on your hero, you can get to a certain rank. If your teammates are alive longer than the enemies you will climb. I think the even easier role is tank though. Tank is super easy at lower ELO when your supports follow you around like a dog and only know how to heal whats infront of them. A lot of DPS players fall short because they just don't get heals despite being with the team especially when it's Genji or Pharah and your supports can't aim well. Every role is difficult. Support is and isn't the most difficult though.
@@aura5658 I totally agree with this take. Albeit in a scrim environment, try forcing a main tank pick to work just because its meta and whatnot.. that’s hella difficult.
@@aura5658 I would care to disagree. Let's talk diamond and above, since that's where things make sense. Support is by far the easiest role, as 3 of the 7 characters have only room for improvement in small parts of their kit. DPS is next, I'd dare say. Yes, the kits are more complex and recquire more mechanical input than tanks on average, but the playstyle of a dps hero comes naturally. Widowmaker doesn't have to make decisions, just click heads. Off-tanks and main tanks are difficult in different ways. Off-tanks often recquire great team awareness, readiness to peel, and good mechanical skill. Hog landing a hook or D.va eating a grav is pretty hard to pull off. Main tanks on the other hand, recquire you to essentially visualize the battlefield and what area belongs to which team from overhead. The decisionmaking recquires you to have a detailed understanding of the threats around you how much space you really need. Main tank is also mentally the hardest role to play. If your teammates are toxic and you slip up, you are 100% getting blamed for the loss of the teamfight because most of the time, it is your fault. If a support, dps, or OT takes a risk and it doesn't pay off, it has way smaller consequences than if the main tank does so.
@@aura5658 as someone who knows/scrims 4k players of every role..... its equally difficult for every role. Every role has a diff set of specifications. Dps need to be confident and well versed in fps knowledge. Supports need to have game sense and decision making Tanks need to have a massive 13 inch cock that they use to alpha the other team into backing up thus making space and they also need gamesense
My favorite ability in the game is easily ana nade, its straight up tells the enemy healers "hey how bout you suck at your job for a minute, my team just needs a few picks real quick"
When I started this game I was a Mercy and Soldier Main. But after I discover how amazing Ana can be (and also Mercy getting nerfed, reworked and nerfed again) I realize how much more impact I can bring to my team. I try to play aggressive if my team is at 90%health or if they have self heal or still have their abilities available. I am always in the hunt for Hogs and Reapers. Sleep them during their ults or hooks. Also sniping the Genji that is trying to disengage is always satisfactory
I am but a humble bronze player on console, but I absolutely adore the quadruple effect of an Ana 'nade, and also using Mercy's damage boost to encourage tanks or DPS players to push when they otherwise would have held back.
As a maim healer im not, i can say the utility of the healers is to destroy the walls in Rialto (hallowen), this allow the allies to make space conserving the momentum, the DPS can realize an efective healing while the Tanks are doing a good poking making easier the manage economy of the ability of the spinning Wrecking Ball on the bell of the point A of Hanamura while Lucio can do a C9 by pressing Tab multiple times on Kanezaka (payload). This is more eficiant on the Soldier Comp composed as DVA, Bastion, Hanzo, Androxus, Ana and Sombra on the 2-2-3 current meta of Team Fortress 2. Need healing! (Me after watching your videos during 7 seconds lol)
Zen main here and i LOVE discord orb its utility is really good from assisting with killing tanks quicker to making your shots that much more painful to tank
I honestly love Brigette :) I've played her for a long time now. I love that shield is just strong enough to block CCs and abilities like D.va. The whipshot ability I use constantly to ether keep my inspire going, boop off the map or out of position, to poke, or to ensure a kill with its damage. Then there's shield bash ugh I love this move. 180 bashing ults, a way to increase her movement, and a way to help her get to safety. I played Brig after launch and before everyone started complaining about her. She's my favorite support and PLEASE STOP NERFING HER 🙃🙃🙃
Akshon's ability to analyze plays and be able to explain them are second to none and I can guarantee that because I son;t even play Overwatch and yet I know what is happening
I will say this was very informative even being a 3600 support player. Its nice getting recognition that support is more than just a walking health pack, and is probably the hardest role.
I love support, it's a fun role to play when your able to do more than just heal your teammates who spam "I need healing" After taking one point of damage
As a main support, i love so much this video. Always i get frustrate cause the other support just heal instead of doing some damage too (the problem is, for example, that i want to use Ana to counter Hog but then my teammate decide to use it but never throws a nade or a dart to him)
when playing moira I usually use coalescence if the whole enemy team is low to confirm the kills; And sometimes if we're being pushed back and their shield tank's barrier isn't being destroyed effectively, I use the ult to push them to hide so my team can advance (mostly on attack). but my favorite healers are zen and ana (with moira if the heals aren't good enough).
This vid most reminds me, at this point, how much I miss the LA Valiant being, well, not yet a team that was suddenly disbanded and moved half way across the world.
I like the way Your Overwatch phrases it: healers are the strongest heros in the game, because they choose who lives AND who dies. And it's really fun to think about how some healers are slightly more geared towards deciding who dies 🤣
I personally play ana a bunch, and her anti-nade is definitely my ability of choice. Though the cool-down is quite long the anti-nade has so many uses. It is great for throwing into gravs both offensively and defensively. Not only that I find it very useful in that just by using it I can ward off potential flankers and/or give myself 100 more hp.
Maybe it's because I'm a lower rank player, but I find it extremely satisfying to actually coordinate a full team speedboost through a point as lucio. Or saving a teammate who overextended a bit. Speed boost is such a cool utility.
There’s almost a sub role, Utility, heroes who’s kit is meant amplify the performance of their team or hinder the enemy like sombrero, symetra, and old maybe new torb
A lot of DPS heroes can be insane as support as well, I know some soldier mains that will sacrifice themselves just to give healing to the support, also this symmetra I met that saved her ult until I used high noon then placed the wall in front of me
When I play support I usually play Brigitte, and I love her Shield bash, especially when we have to retreat it's a great moment ender, and can come in clutch against Sneaky ults
As a support I tend to be a manager too. When someone in my team is getting toxic, I try to heal them a bit more so they chill out and the chemistry of the team remains healthy.
"the job of a support goes way beyond just healing" "Playing as a Support in Overwatch encompasses way more than being just a healer" true, i just wish the blizzard devs themselves knew this. the devs keep inventing supports that dumpster heals on teammates at a rate that completely powercrept the game to shit
I mean, bap chunks health bar both in dmg and healing, Brig used to hit hard untill they nerfed it to shit, her healing isn’t the best but it isn’t broken due to combing her health back and inspire it’s fairly decent. Moira’s damage and healing is insane but she can only do one of the other. Basically they dump heals but they also do the job or DPS almost as good if not better than DPS aswell
@@powerrangerblue8566 Bap has a cool concept, but too much healing. Like you said bap is already useful with his damage. Regen Burst shouldn't heal teammates. There's no reason he should have 3 different ways to keep teammates alive with AoE abilties. Brig was also a cool concept, but would have been more balanced as a tank hero than a support. A beefy support with a hard stun that can also deal damage just made her a cheesy support/tank/dps in one. Rework brig isn't much better for the game. she also dumpsters healing with spamable repair packs. Moira only existed to give ana competition for the top healing healer spot. And also to give beamlock-mains (mercy sym players) another support hero option. With moira came burst AoE healing, and lingering healing over time heals. Neither was a healthy addition to the support role. Instead of dedicating almost her entire kit to healing and building up her heal meter, she should have also been given power in the form of a utility or debuff skill. most supports in this game should feel like dps, with SOME healing and an identity built around utility, buffs, or debuffs. A support's worth shouldn't revolve around how well they keep teammates' HP bar topped up
it feels like in lower elos, supports don't get (or in some cases don't have the skill) to play the role how it should. We are seen as just healers so other roles play more sloppy and expect healing to bail them out for poor positioning or getting too cocky in their 1v6 fights. But at the same time, I will admit the lower skill in the lower elos does mean supports cant always hit that sleep dart or feel confidant enough to play aggressively like with Bap. So eventually it always comes back to "Just play mercy and pocket me"
*cries in Moira* In all seriousness though, I absolutely love Moira as a support with a focus on damaging enemies. I also use Moira a lot for the purpose of scouting. Damage Orb is effectively a big AoE that alerts you if someone is in it. The amount of times I've thrown orb around a corner and gotten Hit Markers on a Genji or Reaper waiting to pounce on my backline is insane. Coalescence is also, to me, more of a resource draining tool than anything. It pressures the enemy team to stay out of my line of sight, or forces them to commit a lot of healing and abilities in order to handle the steady, unblockable stream of damage. Unless they can manage to take me out or interrupt me, which still also uses up their resources.
Pure support main here. My favorite really just depends on the situation. I like nade, discord, damage buff, lamp, fade, there is no favorite. Each has its place.

5:05 Wait a second... Isn't he DRIFTING AROUND THE MAP?
NOW WE KNOW WHY HIS MUSIC IS SO GOOD, IT'S 2070'S EUROBEAT!
Support main here, mostly Ana and Mercy
My favorite support ability is fade.
I can't express how much I fucking love these kind of videos, kudos guys!
I am a simple man. I see Akshon, I smile and click
“Support is one of the most difficult in Overwatch”.. *there are three.*
Both of which are arguably equally as difficult.
@@aura5658 nah, hitscans are easy. Tracer and Echo are the hardest ones of dps.
Supports need to have game sense and decision making
Tanks need to have a massive 13 inch cock that they use to alpha the other team into backing up thus making space and they also need gamesense
My favorite ability in the game is easily ana nade, its straight up tells the enemy healers "hey how bout you suck at your job for a minute, my team just needs a few picks real quick"
My favourite support utility skill is Zen's left click
When I started this game I was a Mercy and Soldier Main. But after I discover how amazing Ana can be (and also Mercy getting nerfed, reworked and nerfed again) I realize how much more impact I can bring to my team.
I try to play aggressive if my team is at 90%health or if they have self heal or still have their abilities available.
I am always in the hunt for Hogs and Reapers. Sleep them during their ults or hooks. Also sniping the Genji that is trying to disengage is always satisfactory
I swear I got into owl and fighting games around the same time and you guys do such a good job covering both
I am but a humble bronze player on console, but I absolutely adore the quadruple effect of an Ana 'nade, and also using Mercy's damage boost to encourage tanks or DPS players to push when they otherwise would have held back.
She's my favorite support and PLEASE STOP NERFING HER 🙃🙃🙃
Yes yes feed my unhealthy lucio /Ana main ego
Those ana plays on anubis were so smooth and cool to watch and have them broken down
Akshon's ability to analyze plays and be able to explain them are second to none and I can guarantee that because I son;t even play Overwatch and yet I know what is happening
I will say this was very informative even being a 3600 support player. Its nice getting recognition that support is more than just a walking health pack, and is probably the hardest role.
That sleep landing on the flanker is always fantastic
my favorite utility as support is definitely sleepdart, its so fun to sleepdart people, especially when theyre ulting (sleeping nanoblade is so good)
I love support, it's a fun role to play when your able to do more than just heal your teammates who spam "I need healing" After taking one point of damage
I liked OG symmetra with the teleporter/shield gen. The shield gen especially was so darn satisfying, still sad that it went away
Report Akshon, presenting his thesis instead of healing
As an ana main for many seasons, successful landing her anti nades and sleeps can be some of the most impactful abilities in the game by far
A similar video for tanks would be really great, I really would like people to understand that barriers aren't the only way to tank stuff.
Every video is always super good. I always look forward to seeing it in my subscriptions
I wish more people saw this, supports in low ranks aint doing much
thats why they are in low ranks
You know what I *love*? Not one mention of Moira XD
For real, my favourite's the Discord Orb, as it encourages your team to fold on a target
There’s almost a sub role, Utility, heroes who’s kit is meant amplify the performance of their team or hinder the enemy like sombrero, symetra, and old maybe new torb
The best OW content creator(imo) is back!
Really great video! Solid work.
My favorite support utility ability is Moira’s shift! :)
Tbh the only reason why I’m a healer is because I get so anxious and worried when I see my other teammates health down. Idk why-
As a support I tend to be a manager too. When someone in my team is getting toxic, I try to heal them a bit more so they chill out and the chemistry of the team remains healthy.
I hope in overwatch 2 they add more supports that do things besides healing or damage buffs
"the job of a support goes way beyond just healing"
"Playing as a Support in Overwatch encompasses way more than being just a healer"
true, i just wish the blizzard devs themselves knew this. the devs keep inventing supports that dumpster heals on teammates at a rate that completely powercrept the game to shit
So eventually it always comes back to "Just play mercy and pocket me"
*cries in Moira*
In all seriousness though, I absolutely love Moira as a support with a focus on damaging enemies.
A wise man once said:
"The best way to support your team is to kill the enemy"
Been subbed since
Awesome! Thank you!
Love a video talking about how supports are more than a just band aid
Baptise is literally so fun and I love playing him being able to heal my team and do dmg to enemies is my favorite
Akshon: the support role is one of the most difficult in overwatch
Me: well yea because there are only 3 roles
Best Flanker and healer is Zen. They would have given him footsteps if he wasn’t meant to fight
I'm so glad these videos are back!
Alarm is just nuts on Ana man.
As a lucio main my favorite utility has got to be lucio's boop. It enables so many picks for me and my teammates.
As a support player on a high school esports team I never like it when I have to focus on healing because I usually can't trust my other support
I love support! I Think Ana’s sleep dart and Baptiste’s imortality Field is the best
YESSSS IVE BEEN BINGE WATCHING YOUR OLD VIDS
God tier content once again , best esport content overall
Pure support main here. My favorite really just depends on the situation. I like nade, discord, damage buff, lamp, fade, there is no favorite. Each has its place.
Damn I love this channel too much
