One of my favorite videos on youtube because it's just put together so well and is informative while putting things in a simple context to grasp how tragic these events were.
PS. Really enjoyed you had long conversations during the video, it was very interesting to hear your thoughts on the topic

True… even though Soviet Union invaded Poland… they were the real people that took the brunt of Nazi attack. If Soviet Union really joined Nazi, then there was no chance for US and allies to win this war.
Every soldier that fought on ground, we should feel bad. After-all they died for what they knew as their country.

The Soviet Union invaded Finland and the Baltics and was committing atrocities in Ukraine before WW2 started. France and Britain were actually in the middle of intervening on the side of Finland against the Soviet Union when Germany struck. At the beginning of the war Hitler and Stalin were close allies, in the mind of Stalin. Stalin wanted to preserve the relationship because of their shared authoritarianism. Don’t be a fool, the Soviet Union were not one of the good guys. Before the war Stalin had just gone through with the great purges, killing around 24 million. And when they invaded Poland, they committed mass executions of hundreds of thousands. They starved to death 3.5-5 million in Ukraine. That’s why many countries welcomed Germany with open arms to be liberated from the communists. That sentence may have sounded biased but that’s what happened. The Soviet Union was influencing violent communist revolutions all over Europe, including Germany. Hitler betrayed the Soviet Union because he saw them as subhuman communists and wanted their land for colonization and reproduction of aryans. That’s why the Soviets joined the allies.

To answer 21:15 , the wildly egregious one you were curious about is the An Lushan Revolt. Happened in China around the Bronze Age. The numbers are a bit sketchy, but it's believed that 1 out of every 6 HUMANS died in that conflict. Not Chinese, Not European, 1 in 6 HUMANS.

I think it is important to distinguish between the different types of German military bodies.
The Wehrmacht was the German army (known today as the Bundeswehr). They made up the vast majority of Germany's land forces and a lot of them were conscripts (from both Germany and other occupied countries like Czechia, Yugoslavia, and Ukraine). A lot, in fact most, were either disillusioned or flat out disagreed with the Nazi Party.
The Luftwaffe was (and still is) the German air-force. Like the Wehrmacht, they were completely separate from the Nazi Party and a lot of soldiers disagreed with the aspirations of their leader.
The Kreigsmarine (replaced by the Bundesmarine after the War) was the German Navy and like the previous two branches, they were separate from the Nazi party and made up of a large portion of both native and foreign conscripts.
The Ordnungspolizei and Kriminalpolizei were regular police forces who also had no affiliation to the Nazi Party.
Now we get to the bad actors.
The Schutzstaffel (or "SS" as they are commonly called) was the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. They were not a regular military force and were more like the bullies of the Nazi Party who carried out the majority of Hitler's nefarious plans. Another thing about them is that they were (mostly) a volunteer branch of the Armed Forces and in order to join you had to be a member of the Nazi Party and swear allegiance to the Fuhr (Hitler). SS soldiers often wore gear and badging that distinguished them from the regular military, like black uniforms and helmets, as well as the red "Swastika" bands around their arm. They were essentially Hitler's own private army and, until the war was near its end, they were mostly used to guard concentration and death camps, garrison occupied cities, and carry out war crimes on behalf of the Nazi Party. There were even designated units, called "Death Squads", whose sole purpose was to hunt, locate, and execute en masse, populations of Jewish and Romani peoples. Most of the German atrocities were committed by the SS.
The Gestapo were the private police of the Nazi Party whose sole purpose was to locate and arrest or kill political dissidents, rebels, Jews, and basically anyone who disagreed with the Nazi agenda. They often operated in plain clothes but were issued uniforms similar to those of SS officers. In order to be in the Gestapo you had to be a member of the Nazi party and swear allegiance to the Fuhr.
(Fun Fact: Until the 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life, regular military personnel (Wehrmacht, Kreigsmarine, Luftwaffe) did not have to give a Nazi Salute when saluting the Fuhr or any superior officers. While they had the option to, most chose not to give the salute. Instead they gave a very common style of military salute. After some of Hitler's top generals planned to assassinate him however, including the legendary Desert Fox (Field Marshall Erwin Rommel), Hitler made it mandatory that all regular military soldiers must use the Nazi salute and swear allegiance to him.)

Please excuse the mayby graphic description of that one picture: it was a women holding a child. As the speaker said shortly before "they killed the men first on order to avoid rebellion". Then they killed the others...women and children often together in similiar positions as you can see one the pic - in order to kill both with only one shot. Mothers had to hold there kids directly to there bodies so the bullet goes "through" both. It was horror what - mostly men - where able to do to other people. Especially when to keep in mind : those soldiers had wifes and kids, too.
They whole nazisystem dehumanised others in putting them into "race" categories and they simply wanted to kill all those people that were seen as "lower" races.
And the majority of germans new it or at least had an idea of whats going on. And supported those "ideology".

Germany and USSR started the war by invading my country Poland and they occupied it. During the entire war, 5.7 up to 6 milion Polish people were killed: 3 milion Polish-Jews and about 2.7 milion ethnic Polish people. Germans killed milions of Jews and Polish peope, killed, deported to concentration camps and deported many to Germany for force labour. But the Soviets and Ukrainian nationalists also killed many. Soviets killed 20k Polish officers in Katyń and deported thousands of Poles to USSR for slave labour, about 140k Polish peope an, Ukrainians killed 50-60 thousand Polish people, the numbers are probably higher

People act like us Americans don't have no reason to be cocky when we go fight wars we actually do have a reason because if you check the historical record World war I didn't end until we got involved it was just a big old stalemate and it would have probably been the same with World war II unless Hitler was just so wrapped up with hatred and wanting to destroy the Jews that was going to be the only way he lost and the only reason the Soviet Union's death count is so high is because Stalin was killing his own people. So his people basically had to deal with the Nazis an himself. And Stalin only became a Ally after Hitler broke their agreement. The Soviets played both sides. In the death count for Japan was going to be higher than what it was if we would have had actually invaded because it was going to be all of the allies I'm pretty sure invading mainland Japan's and we didn't want that because the Japanese were going to fight until the very last man woman and child we killed I don't know how much you guys know about Japanese culture pre World war II but surrendering in the Japanese culture at that time was a big no hell they even killed Americans that had surrendered I guess in their culture surrendering is like an embarrassment and they would rather die . So our leaders at the time made the conscious and moral decision to just drop two bombs enforce Japan to surrender so we wouldn't have to go over there and have mass casualties because every side was going to lose a lot more people. My great grandpa was it Pearl harbor. I live here in North Carolina and I have been to seen the battleships boy them b****** are huge I literally got lost in one 😂😂😂 I don't know how they did it but they did

I recommend watching the documentary. Unknown war.
When the USSR (of which the Republic of Ukraine was a part, at that time still without Crimea in the composition, which Khrushchev later transferred to Ukraine). The Ukrainian front of the Red Army was one of the first to take the fight.
The USSR lost 30 million. There is no family that has not lost loved ones during the Great Patriotic War and in Ukraine too. We can see how now Bandera (a Nazi SS Horseshoe) is called a hero in Ukraine, streets in Kiev were renamed in his honor. And the monuments of the Red Army soldiers - defenders of the Fatherland, of course, were demolished. You know, Zelensky thanks those who “fought against Russia during WW2.”
Well, we understand that the Nazis fought against Russia, right?
Who was Zelensky thanking? The first Ukrainian Division is the same division of the Waffen SS "Galicia". That is, logically, in the Canadian parliament Zelensky honored a Hitler collaborator who, if he had a chance, would have killed Canadian citizens on the fields of World War II.

Dude, what? You realize that the government doesn't represent the people. Even the people who did support the government were brainwashed from birth. Hitler was literally raising kids from birth to be the next soldiers. He wanted people factories essentially. People who refused to fight were killed. People who rebelled were killed. People who hid family members were killed. This was indeed worse in Russia at the time due to their equally as bad person in charge. You absolutely should feel bad for almost all of the soldiers. Very few were ever sick and twisted like the SS were. Those sick people rose up in ranks because of how they acted. Most were just young men thrown into a war that they were forced into.

Most of the German troops were on the eastern front, most of the Germans died on the eastern front. The USSR made a decisive contribution to the victory over Germany.
I'm not saying the US didn't win. Both the USSR, Great Britain and the USA are the winners of the Second World War. But the USSR did most of the work.
