    great idea. I would recommend running your zip ties through both gift cards. Less worry about it delaminating.

    Great idea. Wouldn't it look better if you put the zip tie ratchet knot on the other side of the card so it doesn't stick out as much?

    How very very helpful! Easy, simple. I have thought about some kind of landing gear for my seaplane when no water around. But it has a slight V-hull shape. Could maybe cut out a shallow area on hull to accommodate the gift card? Hmmm. But I love it!

    Its steel music wire, 0.096" diameter. Link is in the description, but looks like it is not currently available. Not sure where I'll buy from next time if they don't get more.

    It's a cutting mat.
    If you do a Google search for "Alvin Professional Cutting Mats" it should come right up.
    I'd put a link here in the comment, but you-tube does not allow it.

    Thanks for the video it was very informative! I like your idea...will use it soon. Any ideas for motor mounts. Not much of a fan of the swap-able FT one.

      I like Ed's manor of motor mount. Check out his channel called Experimental Airlines if you haven't already found that one.

    Now you REALLY nailed it. Feel free to make this a video response to any of my builds. I will be sure to reference and/or paraphrase your technique with credit on a future video of mine. PS: you have the gift card kleptomania! Does your girl roll her eyes at you like mine does when you're out for shopping/dinner?

    Hi! What kind of material is the music wire made? Is it steel?
    Im asking You, because I 'd like to know how can I band it so easily as you are doing on this video. An how can be steel wire cutted .. Its a very hard material. So. Is it a steel stick or an another material?
    Thanks for the video!

      Steel Music Wire, Straightened, 0.096" Diameter, 72" Length. I'd gotten it through amazon a while back, but I don't see it offered anymore. But if you can find it, music wire is what you're looking for.

      @@JohnnyVegasStudio I see, thank you for Your fast answer! Here in Hungary , we have only spring (spiral) steel stick. At least that is the name as it's called here. To day I bought one peace 1m- spring steel stick (2,5mm diameter) , but they told, it should be hard to band and cut it. Thats why Im asking You. May be music wire is a kind of special steel material (similar to steel but not 100 % steel (..?) ) Gábor

      Sounds like your spring steel is very similar. It may look easy to bend in the video, but it is not really. If I wasn't using the vise clamp pliers, there's no way I could get them shaped just by hand. And the cutters I'm using I had to buy specific because it is so hard to cut. Honestly, you do want something hard to bend; when the plane comes down I want that landing gear to hold up. :) Hope that helps.

      @@JohnnyVegasStudio Hey Johnny, thanks for that useful info. The tool You are using on this video looks really professional, and now I know the reason.
      It must be, it should be hard to bend to bring the whole weight of the pleane.

    Will it remain in place during a normal landing being attached with velcro?

    • @JohnnyVegasStudio
      @JohnnyVegasStudio  5 років тому

      I use the Velcro Industrial Strength; works really well and for me only pops off when coming in too hot or on hard landings. I added a link in the description to the stuff I'm currently using.

      @@JohnnyVegasStudio and do you glue the velcro to the fuselage?

    • @JohnnyVegasStudio
      @JohnnyVegasStudio  5 років тому

      I haven't had to. That HD velcro is a bit stickier than the regular stuff and attaching it to the clean smooth surface of either the tape which is on the plane, or the giftcards, I've found the tape will come off the plane before the velcro will.

      Sorry, right now I've got nothing like that. On a couple of mine the rudder alone is actually enough to get it going down in the right direction most all of the time.

    Can you suggest a cheap source for gift cards?

    • @JohnnyVegasStudio
      @JohnnyVegasStudio  11 років тому

      I have never purchased any. I either just use old gift cards that we've used, or I just grab a couple each time I see some where ever I am. I just discretely grab a couple on the way out the door and that's it.
