  • Today I challenge the Berkley Gulp minnow against the Berkley Powerbait Bait to see which lure will catch more crappie in 10 minutes. These crappie were in schooling roaming all over the lake, and weren't locating to brush pile or any cover. This was a tougher challenge video to film.

    I really like these challenge videos. Could you try a slab sauce vs either the Betkley Gulp or Berkley Powerbait?

  • @timpopham8153

    Gulp minnows, chartreuse with pepper flakes work great. So do power bait “crickets” in blaze orange.

  • @danielh2049
    @danielh2049 6 років тому +5

    I love the gulp minnows. Yes they fall apart after few strikes alot but i love using them. I also use like other brands of minnows different size color but what i do is soak them in the berkley juice for several days before i go fishing and it tends work for me. I also stick like the crappie panfish tubes from walmart the creme brand that are like 8o cents a 10 pack. I catch lots crappie bluegills catfish bring back to camp eat.

      I use other plastics also. Put tiny pinholes in them so juice goes thru. Works good with other baits. I know berkley doesn't want that to get out or people would just buy the cheaper bait and soak.

    “What u gonna do?”
    Put scent on the ones that are durable is probably what I would do. Those gulps are awsome for certain kinds of fishing though

    Powerbait is scented, just an oil based scent mixed with the PVC where as Gulp uses a water base so it distributes more easily

      Love Powerbait grubs and worms, fish do hold on longer to the baits. FLC,

    👍🏼up #12....I never target suspended crappie.... they are the hardest fish to catch....

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  6 років тому

      They were extremely hard to stay on top of...to bad they were small crappie.

    Your absolutely right. When gulp first came out it was a denser bait I could catch about a dozen crappies or bluegills on one bait. Here's a challenge . This same gulp vs. 1 inch gulp alive. You,ll get more on the one inch. They won't all be Small either. I've gotten plenty pound and a half crappies on em .

    Gulp in the jar is better than the pack more stink. It's a superior Crappie bait especially finicky biting Crappie. If they don't like the natural color try chartreuse. I use either 1/64 or 1/80 oz jigs sometimes in tandem with larger jugs and plastics.

    • @jmanownz985

      They are the exact same, the 2.5 and bigger come in a pack while the smaller 1 inch come in a jar

    Take the powerbait and put it in the gulp bag so the scent / liquid gets on it! I was on that lake today and it's painful how many fish are down there and very few keepers.

    • @FloppingCrappie

      WI & MN public whitetails ya, it's too bad because last year there were 12-14 inch fish everywhere. I've caught a few 11+inch fish using a 1/4oz jig. That's the only thing I can think of to weed out the small fish

    i like to see how you rig and the depth.

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  6 років тому +1

      Steve Moore the depth was tricky. I just guessed how much line I had out, no real calculation. I think if you do this enough, you can get a feel for how much line you have out. As for rigging these baits, I used a 1/16 oz. Jig and tied a loop knot using 6lb mono. I was using 7'6" ACC Crappiestix rods. (Link to them in the description). Thanks for watching!

  • @adamsmith8533

    Those crappies wait above silty , muddy bottom for insects to emerge and rise in the water column. May fly's , midges , Caddis. All sorts of benthic species. Crappies eat em up. They are easy to catch and there are tons of em .

    powerbait is scented, here is what they say on their website: "Berkley PowerBait makes novice anglers good and good anglers great! Berkley scientists have spent over 25 years perfecting an irresistible scent and flavor - the exclusive PowerBait formula. Fish love PowerBait so much they hold on 18 times longer, giving you the time and confidence to Feel More Bites "

    • @Francois_Dupont
      @Francois_Dupont 5 років тому

      i personally love powerbait because they are soft and the fishes do keep them longer after biting them. i also fish with some non-scented brand and the difference is stunning, with non-scented you have half a second to react and with powerbait the fish run away with it in their mouth.
      i am not in the US nor do i work for berkley, but i just want other people to learn the secret too. i have fished in vain for 10years before learning the trade, and got from 2fish a year to 10+ an outing.

    • @Francois_Dupont
      @Francois_Dupont 5 років тому +1

      also just a note, in my country anything fish based is illegal since 2017. both dead and alive. this is why i use synthetic instead. the best of the best is still live bait either insects or fish.

      Flopping Crappie, I think you got a little greedy on the amount of commercials you stuck in this video. I’m pretty sure you already took it from four to two after my comment.
      If you truly believe you’re going to grow your audience by making them watch commercials every two minutes, then by all means have at it.

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  6 років тому

      Let me educate on youtube's algorithm. Never adjust you're video for the first 24hrs otherwise the video won't get pushed. I've seen this numerous times on my videos. And as far as growing an audience, this is not an audience growing video. This was viewer requested. My audience growing videos are my How-To series videos. I just find it funny how people complain about one or two more ads than they think are necessary for FREE content they are viewing.
