As a Scion owner since 05. 06 & 08 . I can tell you its an awesome little car. I wrecked in the 05. so I got the 06. and the 08. both cars are running. and they both have reached the 500 thousand miles mark. no major engine problems. just basic tune ups every 60thousand miles. and every month oil change. love the brand. for long trips it will let you feel the road. some little issues. in confort. but i am a heavy guy. so thats on me. both scions have been across the US several times .even Mexico...n Canada.
The 2016 Scion iM is a Trifecta of Toyota engineering because of it's tC Suspension with a shorter wheel base,Corolla S 6-Speed Manual or 7-Speed CVTi-S Transmission, Corolla LE Eco engine with 137HP Running on 0-20W synthetic, You get three cars in One. Scion is built Mono-spec with a host of standard safety features and standard amenities, 2 Year or 25,000 Mile Complimentary maintenance plan, Available TRD intake, TRD lowering Springs, TRD Sway bar, TRD brake pads, and all under $20,000 dollar price range. This is the Corolla Perfected with Scion Swag.
I purchased the iM a month ago after having a 2015 Toyota Corolla for two years.. The wheels (tires and rims) , wishbone rear suspension, poward side mirrors, and the versatility of having a hatchback alone make iM a better choice.
I would definitely hands down choose this over the Corolla. For the simple fact that I'm a huge fan of hatchbacks and don't believe there's a Corolla hatchback in the states at the moment. (2015) that is. This definitely is what younger people need. A car company that says here, pick a color and pay the price. It's a very good business strategy.
In my humble opinion i would go with the Scion iM, from just currently owning a first generation Scion tC and just falling in love with that coupe. However, do not get me wrong by any means the current model of the corolla is very nice and great in every aspect. I have had a corolla and been around that little power horse for much of my life. It remains one of Toyota's top dogs and with good reason.
+Gilberto Solorio Motoman was asking which Scion we prefer so, Corolla was not part of the equation let alone "Carolla" or "Japan car" you mentioned. Before calling someone out, learn how to spell and finish your elementary school first.
Really informative review, MotomanTV! I have been actively reading reviews of this 2016 Scion iM on the net for about 4 days total now. Your review is the most helpful - what I liked in the review was your shifting. I drive a 2011 Kia Soul base clear white 5-speed stick and I'm so happy to be driving stick again. My 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS had a timing chain slip/combo serpentine belt explosion which effectively wiped out the beautiful compact's engine on the way to El Paso in late June 2014. Had it towed to a Mitsu/Kia dealer. Our '08 Lance GTS was all paid off but now we had a car needing a new or rebuilt motor - so the dealer gave us $2,000 in trade towards a new rig of theirs on the lot. Chose the 2011 Kia Soul 5-speed base for sale with 35,875 miles on it. Love the car - probably won't be enticed to trade in for a new car anytime soon because I've only got 57,789 miles on my Soul now - but if I did trade let myself be enticed to trade in on anything now, I'd get a 2016 Scion iM with the 6-speed manual tranny. My 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS had the automatic CVT tranny and it was dependable and did the job, I just love rowing my own too much to ever go back to a glorified slushbox. Love the iM's looks, value for the money and dependable Toyota/Scion engine and transmission. Would love a backup camera for busy city driving here in this small Kansas cowtown - my GEICO insurance is about 3 times per month what I was paying in southern New Mexico. =:( Twin wishbone suspension in the back - what's not ta like about that? There's one of these with a 6-speed stick in Wichita at a dealer with this Spring Green color selling for $20,400. I'd want that extra grand they're asking whisked off the purchase price or I'd be up walking saying "I'm keeping my Soul, bro, unless you do some serious slashing ta that i'M's price!" And we'd go from there - Scion is supposed ta be one price. Stealerships just can't help themselves - this is just a regular 2016 Scion iM straight-from-the-factory nothin' less than exactly. Love the thought of buying Scion quality. I'm in on this rig - but I'll probably wait a couple years at least before I will need a Scion iM. It has what I need and what I want - great car for what I'm looking for. Kudos Scion!!!!
I must admit, I'm presently surprised by this car. I would definitely take it over the Corolla. The hatchback is more useful, the styling is better (minus this particular color), and it has the benefit of simply not being a Corolla, which just screams automotive apathy.
I would also choose this option over a corolla. I'm into the dual zone climate control, the hatchback is more useful too due to its space. But definetely in another color
I think this car has more tuning potential. Put some coilovers, some brembos, bbs wheels, a front splitter and a turbo and you'll have a nice fwd track car. And obviously go for the manual
I bought this car with 7speed CVT. It comes with shiftronic and Sport mode and I very happy with it. You can feel the power like if you drive a manual car. I trade in a chevy sonic hatchback 1.4 Turbo manual for this scion iM and I can note the difference. This car is smoth, powerful and gas saver.
Since you ask for my opinion on which car I would want....I would take the Scion IM. The reason, because frequently I need the extra room to carry larger things. I was sort of confused why Toyota dropped the Matrix, since that was a great useable car, and very utilitarian. The Corolla is a great family car, but lots of folks need a wagon. I like the Scion IM very much. I definitely don't like that colour. Gray, charcoal, white, red, green, any normal colour.
I just purchased this car yesterday and so far I'm very impressed with its cvt. A bit of the elastic sensation we have all come to expect but does exactly what you want it to when you want it. As far as handling goes it feels like a base model VW bug: nimble yet soft.
I would definitely go for this car rather then boring corolla. Both rear end and front is well design and look attractive..I hope they brought this machine to dubai.
Hatch all the way. & in regards to Scion. We will all upgrade them in some way or another. Some of our generation will drop a different engine in her. some will turbo map her. some will map a intake to cams lobe & duration to exaust. some will also so a complete custom design for tuning the suspension. some will drop her with camber kits to make her (hella flush), with custom body kits & custom interior for artistic car shows. My point being. scion has delivered us (the younger generation) with a set of cars that are artistically pleasing to us. & we want to build on top of the ideas of a good car they made for us, to make it perfect in our own vision's.
This is the first MotoMan review that I have watched and found it very well done and insightful. I like Toyotas as drivers because they don't bug you and don't break. I have a couple of sports cars for the car geek in me. I think this car has the Corolla LE Eco motor so if you combine that with the 5 door utility and good driving dynamics it would be my choice. I even like the screaming zonker yellow.
I honestly thought the iM would be bigger in the back. I love my '05 Matrix, for the practicality of the hatch. Having said that, if my wife and I decide to have a 2nd child, the iM may just be a tad too small. Unfortunately here in North America, choice is very limited in the small wagon segment. VW Golf wagon, Kia Rondo and Prius V are 3 on my shortlist.
I chose the scion im in silver just because it has a lovely shape.. looks sporty yet is economical. It can be pushed hard and some amounting satisfaction be had in terms of performance
Love your presentation abilities. Very clean, very thorough. Liked your explanation of the options, especially the TRD options, great way to cover the bases. Subbed. Great job.
I rather choose this. I love the colour, love the pricing, love the design, and the hatchback is really important. Plus, corolla everywhere is just really dull.
In Canada, Toyota has done away with Scion nameplate. I spend drive 8 hours a day in the 2017 Corolla for work and this car just has more flash. A Corolla is a comfy place to be for 8 hours these days. I actually was pricing out the iM in that colour too, I like it because it has a hatch and that's great for loading groceries and also for the rear-wiper. The only drawback is that the iM doesn't come with Toyota Safety Sense C and the Corolla does. Safety Sense is annoying for the most part, but it's comforting to know it's there if you need it.
Kinetis They had both on hand . . . and as mentioned in the film, to get anything out of the engine, you *really need* the manual. The CVT is focused on one goal: Fuel economy.
iM over corolla, more practical hatchback. Also will go with CVT, you just need to get used to it, it is easier to drive and more fuel efficient. Manual T is for car enthusiastic people not regular people who want practicality. Definitely not that colour.
I just picked up the last im on the lot last night from my local toyota dealership. got a huge discount so I am not too worried about residual value. plus I feel it's kinda cool to have gotten the scion badging before it went away lol. the interior also better than a Carolla although the 2017s are getting the dashboard. also this isn't meant to be a sporty purchase... more commuter car practicality and then some.
I just bought a new 2015 Toyota Corolla S Plus in blue crush metallic for $21,000 out the door. Should I have waited for this new upcoming Scion iM? I also have a 2000 Acura Integra in white which is also like a hatch.
I'd get this over a Corolla, though that no sunroof aspect is a slight dealbreaker for me. Fresh air and openness, especially on cooler days is a great thing about having a sunroof on your car. Still, this is a decent little car; it's better than I expected it to be based off this review. It's also a hatchback and it's offered in a manual transmission. The curb weight comes in just over 2900lbs, which is a tad heavy but expected in a 4 door hatchback, and also not horrible. I like the technical driving aspect of the review, although you left out one important impression of the driving characteristics, and that is steering feel. Was it pretty numb like most cars these days with drive-by-wire and electric assist, or did you have at least some feeling of what was going on underneath the front tires? That interior sure is stylish, and I also appreciate this car is made in Japan. I wouldn't be embarrassed driving one of these, but I'd have to get it in a different color. I'd also throw on different wheels, coils and likely some stiffening bars, but otherwise I think this is a neat car. It'd be a fun corner carver since it's not super powerful but you can really wring the crap out of the motor and still be doing legal speeds. Thanks for the review!
I would pick the iM over the Corolla, i have a fully spec-ed 2012 rio5 heated leather seats all around, sport suspension, led headlight and taillights, navigation and backup camera, and I think it's a lot like this. VERY JEALOUS of that dual zone HVAC, my AC is pretty weak down here in South Florida.
How does this new "matrix" compare with the new Honda Fit in terms of driving dynamics. Yeah I know the Fit is really a smaller sub-compact, but folks will cross shop the two and I like the styling of the sides and back on this iM more.
I am not a Toyota guy so I would buy neither the Corolla or the iM, however, since I watched this video and you asked I would say the iM. I love hatch versatility (I miss my Golf), and this looks better than the Corolla. If they put a turbo in this and a suspension upgrade, it could sort of compete with the GTI, especially if they could keep it in the low 20s. But we all know that is probably not going to happen.
I believe I associate with the "younger" generation in that this has slightly more power and sharper/edgier/bolder looks then a standard Corolla. It's also fair bit lower and with hatch! (major selling point) I do agree with you that have a sunroom would be a needed option. Speaking of looks, it looks wider and in terms of aftermarket parts this takes the cake and eats it too after say some suspension, wheels, and a few extra aero... I am actually watching this review to help me make a final decision on whether I should buy one.
18k for a car as big as Ford Focus or VW Golf? You said there were no options available, did it have a navigation? I would definitely get this car over Corolla or Focus because it looks like it will be $3000-$4000 cheaper? By the way this car has been on the market fpr a while in Europe and it is called Toyota Auris.
I'd take the iM instead of the corolla just because I go to homedepot,IKEA a lot and cargo utility is a must for me. But, my ideal car is still the Mazda 5 - a car that is beyond practical :-)
Loving the iM! I would choose it over the Corolla. It has been compared to the Matrix, which is good, but it looks like it doesn't have nearly the same ride height. If the iM seating is too low, I may have to pass on buying, :(
I'm looking to buy a new car. I have a 99 Corolla I've been driving since I purchased it new and I have to say the Corolla is one of the best cars. The great thing about this Scion is it has the Corolla engine. The looks and options it comes with and HAVING the Corolla engine yes I'd take this. Scion is done after 2016 so all the IM will say Toyota on them so if I do get the Scion it will be pretty rare being it was made only one year. So it is for me a choice of the Civic, Fiesta and IM and as far as affordability I am going to say I am more than likely going with scion
I traded my 2015 corolla for the 2016 scion im. and I love the way it feels. feels better than corolla actually. just wish it had a sunroof, and also sucks it doesn't have a CD player
I sell Toyota's in SOCAL and HIGHLY prefer the IM over the Corolla. For standard Equipment, Utility, Styling and MPG. When I hear Corolla, I think reliability but I also think of how much more I can get if I spend a little more money and get the Camry. Personally, I drive a Mazda 3 i-GT Sedan and was going to wait to get the IM, but heard about the engine size and HP output, and thought what the heck, Ill just get a Mazda 3. IM > Corolla ; Forever.
Definitely not that color! I'd take a white IM over a corolla any day of the week. In all honesty I believe this car is nicer looking than the honda fit
the two biggest drawbacks to me for NOT getting this car is #1 the weak HP and Torque numbers and #2 no sunroof. i can look past the sunroof but no performance engine option is a deal breaker for me
i think the corolla has a very good design for what it ultimately is, but i have always preferred the hatchback design. Now if the made a corolla coupe and didnt make it awkwardly shaped like the civic, id probably prefer that, highly unlikely though because that only limits its usefulness to the majority of the corollas market.
Arthur S Currently driving a Mazda 6 with the new interior and really blown away how much it transforms the car. The exterior design was stunning but the interior left a lot to be desired. The new interior really matches the hard work Derek and the crew in Irvine did on the exterior. Also changes people's perception of the car - most people that have asked me about it this week (and it has been a lot) think it is a Lexus or similar.
Initially I said the Corolla, but this is growing on me. I think this has the potential to be a more fun car in terms of driving dynamics especially thanks to the double wishbone rear suspension. I mean it's not very hard to beat the Corolla in that aspect is it? I think if Scion offered an optional turbo engine with a smaller displacement, this car would be perfect.
This car is a nice option but wait a year or two to see if they discount that msrp any, considering I payed 19300 for an accord sport out the door, there's no way I'm paying near 19 grand for 135hp with questionable resale value
Same car is sold in the UK as an Auris, where it's marketed as a sensible and practical family car. Image? Dull, boring, popular with pensioners and taxi companies. So from a British perspective it's very odd that they sell it as a youthful/sporty car in the US! I'm not knocking it as a car, mind. I have the estate (station wagon) version with the hybrid drivetrain. Superb in its role as my daily workhorse; it's comfy and quiet and has plenty of room for all my work gear in the boot. Very cheap to run as well. Just can't to grips with the idea of it ever being "cool"!
I'd choose neither. Though I approve of the "everything included for one price" idea I'm just not a fan of Toyota. I can't tell you the relief I felt when my wife survived a side impact unscathed but the 2009 Corolla she was driving didn't.
I enjoy driving hatchbacks around city streets with manual transmissions. I'd take this over a Corolla any day but I wish that it had the larger engine from the US Corolla.
What do you mean by larger engine in the US corolla? This has the same engine as the corolla eco which is the most powerful engine offered in the corolla
lukash kowcz You're correct. In listening to both the review of this and the IA at the same time, I'd confused the engines and misinterpreted that the IM had a 1.4 liter. Not so, It is the same 1.8 from the Corolla that has been employed since they stopped using the 1.6 in the Corolla. That's a good thing. It's as reliable as an anvil.
Wait a minute!!! The CTS-V at the end of this month? Like tomorrow or end of July?? As for your question the I guess this over the Corolla, less embarrassing. Maybe in the home appliance white over this color.
I'd chose this car over the Corolla any day. Well, before the newly redesigned Corolla. The new Corolla looks nice and is a bit roomier, but it still looks a bit bland. This car exudes fun, where the Corolla… not so much. Not having a sunroof option could be a deal breaker for the Scion though.
Probably Corolla. The iM is good, but not enough. I like it's practicality, I haul lots of gear and so I can see owning the hatch. But this is coming off as the car that's trying to replace the Corolla Matrix. Which was a lot more rugged. I like that the new transmission in there, beats the old one you struggle with in the Matrix. In features I'd say they're about even. In appearance, I don't like the front hood pointing into the scion badge, or that odd overexagerrated lip on the rear bumper. I do however like the bright highlighter color, it's not offensive, or an eye sore, but it gets attention. But the Corolla can be featured in ways to adapt to what I want of it. I just don't see it in the iM. Great car, I'd recommend it to others, but not for me. I'd get the Corolla. Even if it were the base model with the manual, I'd rather that. I'll hold on to my 2012 Mazda3 with the 5-speed just a little longer.
CVT? Ouch! And here I was thinking you gonna say something less awful like a 4spd, but CVT? Daymn! Speaking of the loud color, was the scene with the color matching umbrellas staged? Or just a "coincidence" ? wink wink. How come there's No Sunroof? Did they miss the Dodge commercial with Danny Trejo? C'mon Scion! Its all about the sunroof! I like the wheels tough, reminds me of the Citroën DS4\5 wheels. Can I plead the fifth regarding your question? As always, excellent video M!
I'd most certainly take an im over a Corolla but honestly I'd rather have a Mazda 3 hatch or a Ford Focus hatch although with the caveat that Fords dct are unreliable and should be avoided
Hey MotoMan.....I would choose the iM easily over the Corolla. I recall in the review that you said the CVT would probably be "flat footed" on the steep grades. Did you get to drive the CVT too and confirm that? Manual man here. :)
MotoManTV One of the few people left that is not a member of Facebook. :) But I find a way to post it somewhere. Will not be getting Spring Green and am currently leaning toward Silver or Blizzard Pearl. Although that red is a stunner!
MotoManTV Did some digging with the dealers and discovered a few cars were getting here a bit before September 1st. CVT's seem mots plentiful, but I did discover some manuals on the way. Sooooo...I have put a deposit on a Manual Blizzard Pearl White! May get here in a couple of weeks!Question.....The Auris on which this car is based has been in production in Japan for a couple of years. So would new model assembly concerns not be a factor?
I like it more than expected. It's what the xD wasn't. Nice ride. Still refuse to buy Toyota stuff until they give us forced induction. It makes the Cruz/sonic/ way fun to rip around town in. Unless size was a problem, I'd prefer a 1.8t golf or jetta, basic as can be. Or perhaps not a corolla, but a tC. Also, realize the one price thing is an industry hoax... Truecar all that BS. The good things it was supposed to prevent, ie, market gouging, it fails to do. Dealers still do crap like add stupid bits of chrome, floor mats, window tint, seat covers etc and charge 10x more than they should, and trd products are a perfect example. Then they scare people with warranty talk. That being said, I paid 24,795 for my 2013 FR-S out the door
I'm a big Sunroof guy. I think in silver (i've seen driving footage) would be enough to make up for the lack of no sunroof. The Corollas packaging is slightly retarded, how my friends '14 is a Corolla S "PLUS" package, but "PLUS" packaging on a Corolla S doesn't even include a sunroof? Why make it sound like the customer is getting more? Also, you mentioned coil overs, but its really TRD lowering springs that are offered. I'm sure either would help the chassis get a little spirited with acceleration ( and get the back end in line).
I'd love this car with a torquey turbo or diesel. Not sure i'd buy it though. Mazda needs my money. Also, GET RID OF THAT GLOSSY PLASTIC ON THE DASH. It'll look good for 2 seconds.
Are oil changes every month a priority? I just got this car last week
SINCE I BOUGHT IT IT'S BEEN AMAZING. NO ISSUES👍👍👍👈💯

looks so much better than the corolla. and its essentially a toyota.
it works for me!

+iMod R&D Love your style, too.
P.S. I would change all the badging on the car to Toyota Auris because that is what it is. :-)
Mike Bennett I wasn't wearing my glasses and it looked like it said L44. I liked that better!
I rather choose this. I love the colour, love the pricing, love the design, and the hatchback is really important. Plus, corolla everywhere is just really dull.
Hey MotoMan...Did you find the high clutch point much of a problem?
Appreciate all your great answers!
Corolla has a hatch model now pretty much identical to this.
To me, this is an awesome redesigned Toyota Matrix badged as Scion:)
Did scion provide a cvt for testing? I'm curious how the cvt responds in sport mode, where you shift through simulated gears.
Kinetis They had both on hand . . . and as mentioned in the film, to get anything out of the engine, you *really need* the manual. The CVT is focused on one goal: Fuel economy.
MotoManTV That's unfortunate, I was hoping for some rev matching fun in sport mode.
Yeah Scion makes a very reliable vehicle
iM over corolla, more practical hatchback.
I buy this car because it is 100 percent Japanese.
I gotta get the iM based on the practicality of a hatchback.
I just bought a new 2015 Toyota Corolla S Plus in blue crush metallic for $21,000 out the door. Should I have waited for this new upcoming Scion iM? I also have a 2000 Acura Integra in white which is also like a hatch.
The Scion iM is what the Toyota Matrix should've been.
Thanks for the review!
iM because hatch. If I'm going small, it needs to be a hatch or a wagon, and there are no small wagons anymore.
Also....I couldn't catch what you said after , "kinda like a champ..." what did you say?
This car is sold as a Corolla Hatch here in Australia, but with a 1.8L engine.
I traded my 2015 corolla for the 2016 scion im. and I love the way it feels. feels better than corolla actually. just wish it had a sunroof, and also sucks it doesn't have a CD player
my wife wants this car, we used to have Toyota Matrix, the only that I don't like with this is CVT transmission.
IM > Corolla ; Forever.
definitely the scion, because it is more sporty, and i feel like it fits my style. tailored for the young.
Just won a subscriber with this review!
The iM, for the hatchback and not that colour. I have no time for Corollas.
StanO011 Interesting . . . you are the second person to choose the iM but not that color . . . Good to know . . .
MotoManTV Same here! You can add a third!
Definitely not that color! I'd take a white IM over a corolla any day of the week. In all honesty I believe this car is nicer looking than the honda fit
the two biggest drawbacks to me for NOT getting this car is #1 the weak HP and Torque numbers and #2 no sunroof. i can look past the sunroof but no performance engine option is a deal breaker for me
Lol then get a BMW 335i
The interior of the iM is based off the all-new 2015 Corolla S. Very similiar
i think the corolla has a very good design for what it ultimately is, but i have always preferred the hatchback design. Now if the made a corolla coupe and didnt make it awkwardly shaped like the civic, id probably prefer that, highly unlikely though because that only limits its usefulness to the majority of the corollas market.
i drive a mazda3, which has a segment leading interior, but i still really dig that interior.
Yeah, it's straight up E90 BMW grade stuff.
This cAr is a corolla rebranded
Justin.R Gaming Play and with suspension upgrades
I could care less about the sunroof it's a good car for a college kid good mpg 2 years free service decent options
This car is a nice option but wait a year or two to see if they discount that msrp any, considering I payed 19300 for an accord sport out the door, there's no way I'm paying near 19 grand for 135hp with questionable resale value
where do you live? discounts on socal are rare and Honda discounts that large are interested of?
bullshit
Please, make sure you have correct information about the vehicle. The iM has a 1.8 not 1.4.
Its because hatchbacks are suuuuuuper rare in the USA...
It's the same price as a Honda Fit...... Which one is better ??
I thought it was a 1.8L not a 1.4L!
Awesome Toyota Matrix!
Noel Santos Yeah, that's what I was sort of thinking. If Pontiac was around I wonder if this would be the Vibe lol.
I'd choose neither. Though I approve of the "everything included for one price" idea I'm just not a fan of Toyota. I can't tell you the relief I felt when my wife survived a side impact unscathed but the 2009 Corolla she was driving didn't.
U drive a Kia bra? Hahaha
you said 1.4 liter, but this is the same engine as corolla, 1800 cc
built in Japan! buy it ! no brainer !
Ah gotcha honestly I'm excited for both
Volkswagen is my favorite car company on the planet! I love the Golf in all forms! It's like driving your own pet! Such a personal experience!!!
scion would go ballistic if it were to make this awesome looking car an electric one
Wait a minute!!! The CTS-V at the end of this month? Like tomorrow or end of July??
As for your question the I guess this over the Corolla, less embarrassing. Maybe in the home appliance white over this color.
Eddy Lopez Sorry, Eddy . . . End of July . . . But let's just say I'm excited!
MotoManTV me too and my friends that work at the cadi dealer
MotoManTV OH MAN! I'm excited already! That gives me goosebumps just thinking about it
this scion looks exact as toyota in europe.
Good, I found a reviewer that has the manual transmission.
Motoman--it's a 1.8, not a 1.4 :]
@ 0:53... "1.4l" Its a 1.8 good sir!
I bought this car and returned it two months later for the tc.
I just wish it came with at least a 1.8/2.0l 6sp, enkeis and coilovers from the factory like the concept IM
IceDree No, you can't. For you, a SPECIAL question . . . This or that . . . gulp . . . BMW 2er GT you sent me a picture of . . . :)
MotoManTV Crap! I guess I'll bite the bullet then ... The BMW . . . ;)
IceDree You know what to do . . . Back to therapy:)
MotoManTV Okay :)
So, what about you? The iM or the Corolla?
IceDree Lexus RCF
I would lease but not buy. Not sure if it will hold its resale value as good as a corolla. I'm also in my twenties :)
I'd most certainly take an im over a Corolla but honestly I'd rather have a Mazda 3 hatch or a Ford Focus hatch although with the caveat that Fords dct are unreliable and should be avoided
i would grab the corolla , because the corolla has more options . scion has always lacked in options and never included leather to upscale their brand
Joble1000 Not true. The Scion tC Monogram has leather front seats and 'leatherette' rear seats.
Hey MotoMan.....I would choose the iM easily over the Corolla.
I recall in the review that you said the CVT would probably be "flat footed" on the steep grades. Did you get to drive the CVT too and confirm that? Manual man here. :)
Sean Hennigan Time in the CVT did confirm that sentiment.
MotoManTV Thanks for the follow up. Helps my resolve to get the manual!
Post a pic of your car to our Facebook page when you get it . . . Would be interested to see what color you choose . . .
So would new model assembly concerns not be a factor?
the blue color is what they always use to sportisize its image to young buyers.
Funny, this car is badged in europe as a Toyota Auris.. The Auris replaces the Carolla.
I was going to get a corolla s until i saw this pup.
If this had the 2.4L engine and AWD. I'd want one. They could just call it Matrix 2.0
This same car is the Toyota Corolla in Australia, and Toyota Auris in Europe o_O
I think the Corolla in the S trim is the better car. It looks better and you wont spend more than what you would on the iM.
Jeff K LOL!
Cool review! Thumbs up #82.

ITS A 1.8L engine right...
I'd love this car with a torquey turbo or diesel. Not sure i'd buy it though. Mazda needs my money. Also, GET RID OF THAT GLOSSY PLASTIC ON THE DASH. It'll look good for 2 seconds.
1,8 l not 1,4l :P
1.4L engine? not 1.8L?
