    UA-cam suggested your channel to me and I subscribed to it. I like the vibes, your bike (I have almost the same) and it's so nice to watch while we're here in winter. So now I'm really looking forward to summer. Greetings Heidi 👩‍🌾💕 from Berlin. Happy New Year 🎊🎆

      Welcome to the channel, Heidi! It must be very chilly in Berlin right now. I visited at Easter, once upon a time, and this little Australian was frozen solid! I'm so happy I have shone some of the sunshine your way and inspired you for the coming Spring. Not long now xx

    For me I guess it’s genetic. I grew up watching my grandparents, my parents, and my aunties tend their gardens, even being allowed to help choose plants for a free form native Australian garden. I think there’s no equal feeling to the one you have when you harvest fruits or vegetables you patiently cared, or when the flowers you planted finally blossom.
    I also love how gardening isn't 100% success / fail. Case in point, I can’t grow carrots but seem to forget that every year, and I just keep on trying!

    • @theramblingrose_
      @theramblingrose_  Рік тому +2

      Ooh, I grew carrots finally last year. They weren't very big, but they were so tasty! I grew multicoloured ones and then after harvest I just roasted them with salt and pepper - delish!

    Thank you both for the gardening inspiration! I've just returned home after being away from my garden for 9 weeks, and the first thing I did this morning was barefoot tour my garden, lamenting the missed opportunity for planting our summer veg ( normally have an abundance right now, and instead have a weed filled veggie patch) but also celebrating the bursts of colour from my kangaroo paws and other natives, as well as the fruit growing in the few trees we have in ground. I'm looking forward to weeding, preparing the earth and planting in the next few days and weeks.

    • @theramblingrose_
      @theramblingrose_  Рік тому

      You're so welcome Karen! Thanks for watching. I have a feeling you'll still have a pretty good harvest, as I think the season is slowly stretching out into Autumn. Plus, you can get some pretty established seedlings at this point. What are you going to focus on? This year, I put all my energy into my most used veggies - tomatoes, capsicum, pumpkin, eggplant, zucchini and potatoes.

      There's something so satisfying about a day's work out in the garden. I think on some primal, evolutionary level, it stirs something deep within us all. Roughly, scientists predict humans have been gardening for over 23,000 years! And the best part is sinking into an epsom salts bath at the end of the day... then guess what? Epsom salts are an excellent fertiliser!! Totally magical :D

    Ah! The phrase ‘Working Bee” reminds me of a little romantic interlude.
    I was hanging out,under the shade of your Daisies,when the prettiest little Honey Bee came along,shopping for pollen.
    In classic grocery store flirtation,I said hello,and complimented her on her beautiful faceted eyes!
    She replied,”Bz.”
    I asked her what her name was,and she said “Bz”.
    Bees,they are not fans of syllabic language,it’s more…tonal for them.
    But what she said was newspeak for Bea,short for Beatrice,because,again,not so much with syllables.
    I directed her to a particularly fine stem of Daisies,which had produced the most powdery perfect pollen,and Bea the Bee smiled,in her cheek less mandibular way,and chose to collect it up on her fuzzy back legs.
    With a thankful “Bz”, she flew away,I never saw her again,but to this day,I have dreams of having her honey,sometimes on Melba toast,sometimes with peanut butter and raisins!
    It tastes like how Daisies smell😊
    Bz.

    Also,regarding fertilizer:
    I have a local fishmonger,we have set up an agreement,for a small price,I buy his fish scales.
    I take them home,and in a dedicated blender,I blend them with water.
    Very smelly business,but I plop it at the base of my Hostas,before they emerge for the year,and they grow to gigantic size,the envy of my neighbors,with whom I share root cuttings.
    And the little pointy sprouts,which are popping up as we speak,they are delicious,I roast them with olive oil and salt,like tender asparagus,and they taste exactly the same as asparagus!!

      Thank you Sharon! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. I put so much love and effort into each one, so it makes me smile to hear that. Oh yes, those beautiful little white moths... the only thing that works is a fine netting, unfortunately, and that really bothers me and gets in the way of admiring my garden. They seem to go absolutely crazy for my kale! I do find that my chickens eat the caterpillars... along with the rest of the leaves! Maybe a little greenhouse for next winter's crop?

I tried to net my pots but it just became too annoying having to removed them and put them back all the time, and of course not being able to see my lovely plants. I would dearly love a greenhouse for my pots, but it’s unfortunately not practical where I currently live. I do have a tiny plastic greenhouse with some of my plants in it that enjoy the humidity like my orchids☺️ maybe one day I will live somewhere garden and greenhouse friendly. In the meantime I’ll keep dreaming about it lol, and enjoying seeing your beautiful garden.🌸🌼🌿xx
