I was a smart young Navy Submariner in Hawaii. I had the HONOR and Privilege of Meeting Gabby and Peter. Over 7 years in da Islands. Changed me forever, young boy from Pennsylvania. ❤️
absolutely beautiful, two masterful musicians loving on each other. that's a beautiful harmony and friendship right there. made me tear up with happiness. very blissful.
When my grampa said never ask questions, he just meant you have to use your ear and practice and make up your own technique. When it comes to academics, science & authority, always ask questions. RIP grampa.
Glad you mentioned that, some people might not understand- that style of teaching was more common, back in the day! I love slack key and Gabby- family ( and Peter)
I was lucky enough to live in Waimanalo (Gabby’s home town) for 8 years. How wonderful to hear Pops’ gentle voice again. Notice how he empasizes the importance of not asking your teacher any questions, just listening and trying to play. This is the old way of learning. Very hard for the young people to understand this method today. Ahui hou Pops ❤️😢
Man if Gabby Pahinui n Moon was playing with Eddie Pahinui n Uncle Sonny, I stay up all night n listen to guys play music. Now had I listen to my uncle n play guitar I’d be jamming with the guys,
I'm not a native Hawaiian (I was born there when my parents were stationed there in the military), but I've always considered Hawaii my home. Even to this day (I'm now in the mainland), I still miss it. I have Gabby's albums and still listen to them.
CD~ I been Big Island almost 50 years now. (punatic, me, lol) & Gabby, Peter Moon, bradda Iz and many others~ nowdays` THIS MUSIC I've always loved~~now has such power to keep me grounded & yes~ SANE like nothing else these days can! How long now have I LOVED, with all my heart, Hawai'ian music. Nowdays~ I NEED Hawai'ian music! I stay Hawai'i nei til she sink or otherwise goes! My home, my heart~ Big Island. Thank you Akua for bringing me here...malama pono...
Kupuna' Pahinui (the son of Hawaii)... he is the founding Icon of post modern Hawaiian music... the rhythm of the islands...'ps; there should be a park named after him and his family with a life size statue of him... (scolding the kids for letting the chickens in the house again "0,0" ).. nah nah nah juskidin ,,,,'oo',,,, but i'm serious about da park an statue... he deserves it. "aloha"
Gabbys brother or cousin Eddie Pahinui is the guy who played steel guitar all night n the early hours with my uncle Sonny Soares-- both were in the U.S. Army. I’m the girl who’d listen to them all night--but don’t play guitar!!!!
This is the kind of music that Hawaii is known for amongst many other older type of Hawaiian music. Not for Jawawaiian the Jamaican Hawaiian mix this is sickening to our culture of music
The best Hawai’ian Musician EVER! Gabby Pops!
