  • Asclepius - Zeus's Darkest Hour
    Zeus must chose between being a grandfather, or the king of the heavens. And his answer could well leave the universe ablaze with the fires of war. Hera and he decide the fate of the universe.
    And suffer the consequences of their decision.
    Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
    This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
    All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
    There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
    These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

    Asclepius, the oldest example of “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”. The prodigy of mortal medicine, an example of what happens when you care too much or go too far.

    I never thought I would ever feel sympathy for Zeus. Well done, I look forward to seeing Apollo 's response.

    Truly a tragic tale. I love how many of these videos humanize the ancient gods and makes them more empathetic. I wasn't expecting such an emotional gut punch as this honestly, but it adds more depth to Zeus as a grandfather and a king. For now the stage is set. Apollo failed his son in life, but how will he respond to his death?

    Lightbringer.
    Hera's monologue.
    How you invest such emotion into those words. To make me grieve for what I had considered by definition and evidence the most dysfunctional married couple in all of mythology. And yet you and Baldermort make me weep for them both. That... is not a metaphor or overstatement. I sit here drying my eyes for two beings who know what must be done and the price for not doing that thing and both hating themselves for it.
    You did what i considered impossible. you showed Hera and Zeus as a married couple in love and supporting each other.
    Both of you, Bravo.

    I personally think that Zeus’s tussle with Typhon was his darkest moment. After all Typhon initially defeated Zeus and ripped out his tendons and locked him in a cave. While Typhon was causing chaos Zeus finally got bailed out and got fixed before he threw mount etna on top of Typhon.

    • @Nurarihyon2i3
      @Nurarihyon2i3 Місяць тому +9

      Nah, Typhon was simple. He was a threat to the Cosmos and Zeus must kill him. It was a simple Hero vs Villain scenario. But this, this is more personal, this is the moment where the Hero’s ideal gets stomped on the ground by the cruel reality.

    • @livingmythology1405
      @livingmythology1405  16 днів тому +1

      Typhon was not blameless, and Asclepius was an innocent, grandson…
      It’s a fair point to say that Zeus’s fight with Typhon was his darkest moment.
      But we do think emotionally, this is far more painful… to have to live with it after also…
      Very well put to say the hero’s ideal gets stomped on the ground by the cruel reality.
      Thank you for both your comments though - it’s so fun to share different ideas and perspectives, because it is just a story.
      It is what we each make of it!

    There are few people Zeus favors above all. Those are:Gaia, Hades, Hera, and his children. All others come on a situational basis.

    Another great video! This was a very good and very emotional take with Zeus, portraying a grandfather's love and heartbreak. It's interesting to show how difficult it is to be both rulers and a good family, especially when the king and queen are very flawed. It's incredible how you've shown a human side to these ancient deities, and with engaging dialogue.

    Amazing video as always.
    I always found it hilarious that they kill Asklepious in order to prevent him from breaking the natural laws and after death he became the patron god of doctors and medicine and continued to do the same thing saving those who are closed to death ( but not raising the dead anymore ).

    Can you make a video about Cath Maige Tuired? It's an Irish myth where the Tuatha De Danann fight against the Fomoire. Where the God Lug is triumphant and defeats Balor, Indech De Domnann and Bres, yet Nuadu dies during the fray.
