    My great-grandparents were kids in Louisville in 1906. It means a lot to me to be able to see the city the way they knew it.

    The elaborate facades of buildings were and are beautiful... and for those who have posted that most of what you see here is gone, hey, get out more. Most of these great buildings are still here and beautifully preserved. The Seelbach hotel, City Hall, the Jefferson County Courthouse, the L & N Building, the bank and insurance building shown at 0:51, almost all the grand homes shown in Old Louisville at 1:22 through 1:28 are still there and lovingly preserved. Union Station at 2:01 is still there and in fine condition. The MainStreet row buildings shown in various shots are almost all still there and better than ever. Why do some people just post cynicism and gloom without doing a bit of their homework?

    Awesome pics. Louisville was one of the largest cities in the south and country back then. Sad that most of what you see here was either taken out by the 1883 tornado, the 1937 flood or demolished.

    Great series, but would be ever so much better with a soundtrack of pre-1907 songs (all public domain now).

    I'm from Louisville Kentucky and I'm in the Highlands neighborhood, been here all my life but I grew up in Oldham County Kentucky, move back to Louisville cause the rent was to high and the cost of living in the 1990s.

    These pics are so old there aren't even cars in them but plenty of streetcars or trolleys I guess. A few of these structures are still around. Everyone dressed in black in many of these shots.

    Amazing time when things were just beginning to take shape and form from European origins and elsewhere. Interesting! My father often spoke of the trolley cars and peddling wagons/carts.

      That statue of confederate general John Hunt Morgan stands now in Brandenburg Ky,down by the river near jailhouse pizza

    • @brianarbenz1329
      @brianarbenz1329 3 роки тому +1

      The statue distorted history. Taking it down is no loss. If you want to learn about the confederacy and slavery, there are two plaques at 2nd and Main streets that tell visitors the whole story. These plaques use unbiased factual narratives, not the slant of the former confederate statue. Don't be fooled by cries that history was erased by taking it down.

    no showers..no ac...long dresses..men walking around in suits and work clothes..not much in the way of trash pickup..must of smelled wonderful...I wonder where the poor people lived..across the river was where the Lewis and Clark expedition started..Mohamed Ali was born there..so was Mickey Baker..that`s history.

    • @steved9128
      @steved9128 2 роки тому

      They had showers, they had AC, That city is more advanced than the ones built today, and what is left over from the ancient world. Those buildings are thousands of years old, the electricity was free, and a better frequency than today as well, not transmitted as we understand. Do you know why you can find a abandoned mansion out in the middle of nowhere not connected to any grid and the lights work, and there is power, because they got power from the air, stored it in bricks, ect.

      We still have a trolley in Louisville, at least one. It has an older style look to it and of course the horse and carriage rides/tour of the town. Louisville is a beautiful city and I recognize nearly all of these buildings and many of the signs as well. I think they’ve done a good job preserving its history.

      Still is, black people hating white people also, notjist he common “racism” MSM perception. Louisville is stuck blaming all its problems on racism tho, and in the meantime it’s being hammered in the ground by greed and poor leadership.
