some configurations of this car has one of the longest gas ranges in a non-hybrid car. Up to 35 mpg with a large 18.5 gallon tank means you can go up to 650 miles on the highway on a full gas tank!
I have a 2016 Legacy. I am now driving the 2021 as a loaner. It is a very refined car. It drives like an early 2000’s BMW 5 series. Very smooth, great driving car.
Glad to hear that the stop/start feature can be disabled. I have a 2015 Malibu with stop/start and really get tired of the engine turning off with practically every red light only to turn on again after maybe 30 seconds. Don't see how this saves much gas no matter what price the gas is and does a great job of wearing down the starter over time.
Nobody talks about the Crimson Red Pearl color... I'm not a red fan but when you see it in the sun, man that color POPS! I have a 2017 Outback 3.6R with that color and I love it!!!
Looks like a 1993 Camry that someone drew angry eyes on. The trunk is thicc. It's also cavernous, and the car drives like a dream considering the price point.
Yeah, it's floppy in the corners (needs a stiffer rear anti sway bar; good luck finding one!), but the brakes are excellent, and the XT does not lack for power in everyday driving situations.
I think a lot of cars now days are on the plain looking side. To me it's what's under the hood and the comfort of the car that matter more than the way it looks. Sleeper car for sure plus the fact that I do not see a lot of these on the road makes me really look forward to when I take delivery of my 2022 in a few weeks
Love the Legacy/levorg, I want it as my next car but I have a Subaru Impreza with 10 ten years and is starting to worry me that it would last another 15 haha and I can't change a car unless it's totaled
Hope before long to test drive the "Legacy" 2021...maybe even a 2020. I have a 2004 "Forester" I bought outright with a trade-in (1996 Nissan "Maxima") in September of 2003. The new "Forester" '04 had only 5 miles on it and, was in the color I wanted. I still have that car as of March, 2021 with just a bit over 130k mileage and it still is, okay. Being retired now for 5 and-a-half years after a total of 40 plus years working, I'm looking forward to trading in my old "Forester" for a substantial update in features and safety. The Subaru company has still very good cars that rank high in longevity yet, somewhat basic in style. The " Boxer " engine design has been a favorite of mine for one main reason: engine vibration. It "feels" like a V6 vibration wise...very minimal. The "Legacy"...if it were a little more stylish as well as easier to get in for older folks like me at 6' plus...it would catch me. With all things said, I still want to test drive one and, also, the new "Forester " & " Outback". I'll skip the "Accent" model, I think. Thanks for the review of the "Subie".
I don't find the styling to be too vanilla. In fact, I see a good number of sedans on the road including some luxury brands with very similar styling. Also, you mentioned the CVT on this Legacy is not your favorite. Which would you rank ahead of it?
The programming of the CVT frequently argues with the turbo on the XT. This is not and was never intended to be a drag racer, but you very much notice the mismatch when trying to thread a traffic gap at a T junction. The CVT never seems to be ready for the turbo spin up and tries to downshift right as the turbo spools. Lots of jerking...
I purchased a 2021 Legacy last year in May, after driving my daughter’s 2016 Impreza I was expecting the same experience. Not even close! I didn’t hated the car but didn’t love it either, the screen positioning was horrible to use while stopped at a light, very crapy acceleration even thought the engine is 2.5, cvt tranny couldn’t keep up with the engine, which only gives 189 hp. poor paint and clear coat quality (even it was parked in garage, the window gaskets began to fall off after only 6 months, too basic interior, no vents for the back, no electric passenger seat, basically everything is extra! (Auto dim rearview mirror, electric seats, decent sound system, etc) and the paddle shifters are pretty much useless. Not the worst car I ever drove but very forgettable. Sold it after only 15k miles. Now I got a Kia Stinger, very fun to drive and it comes with all the bells and whistles and 10 years warranty.
Been driving a black XT Touring for a few months now. It looks like and angry 1993 Camry. Nobody suspects a thing. Total sleeper. Watching the look on people's faces when you rocket out of a T junction or into a highway merge is hilarious. Complete visibility. Ample power. Superb interior. AWFUL, underpowered, poorly designed tech. The gigantic screen is stupid slow, and it swallowed the AC controls, so you now have to wait for the head unit to fully boot to control your AC. The driver monitoring system, auto braking, and lane keep assist are obnoxious, oversensitive, and best left turned off. Unfortunately, the cool feature which recognizes your face and sets your seat up is tied to having the whiny driver monitor turned on. Dick move. Oh, and the system never completely turns off, and will suddenly beep at you under certain circumstances, even if you turn it off. Another dick move, Subaru. Overall, great car. It's a shame they had to screw it up with awful tech that will be thoroughly outdated in two years.
yep - I've had my Legacy for a year now, and the SW update for that - I think it was mid-summer? - enabled AppleCarPlay to use the entire screen - it's brilliant. They also just pushed a firmware update to the Legacys and Outbacks that puts an Auto Start/Stop cancellation button right on the home screen - no more 3 clicks deep !! Best update ever :)
Absolutely hate the screen. Fucking hate the screen. Hate it. I don’t understand why dedicated AC controls don’t exist anymore. Absolutely hate it. I love everything else about the car but the screen is a complete turn off
I hate that C pillar design with a plastic filler piece behind the abrupt back door cutoff. Do a proper Hofmeister kink like on the old Legacy models! Overall, not very sporty looking, and it's plagued with a crappy continuously variable transmission. Disappointing. Wish I could get a new 4th gen!
Yeah, I see a lot of drivebys on the transmission, and I don't get it. It's a family sedan, and the CVT is smooth as butter ... unless you stomp on the turbo from a stop. It is hardly the worst sedan transmission I've driven recently. #LexusTruckDrivetrain
I have one I love how to drive , but , has 2 things that bother me , the auto stop engine, it is annoying, super let's say , and to deactivate it you have to surf through the infotainment, which is laggy and slow, and the same for the brake auto hold. When the auto stop engine start again seems that the car is gonna brake , that is the reason have to deactivate it every time I start the car ,and that is super super super annoying 😒
It's two button presses on the new software, but it should be a button next to the shifter, along with the automatic vehicle hold. Having to turn that on every time is unacceptable.
Don't know who like the auto start and stop. It is more trouble and bothersome then its worth...just imagine the wear and tear on the starter....it will worn out quicker then other vehicle since the number of times it turns On/Off...pretty obvious.
I found them to be extremely slow to accelerate especially in cold weather. I had a 2013 Legacy and was not impressed. Seats were amazing but the car overall was very mediocre. I enjoyed driving it through snow but the CVT transmission was unrefined, noisy, jerky In traffic, never really was an engaging drive
Yeah, because nothing changes in seven years in car design. The 2021 is exactly like your old '13. My new 2021 Touring XT hauls ass, is quiet, smooth and refined. Its an incredible car.
Worst car I’ve ever had. The Reverse Auto Brake system will brake for a pebble on the ground. Additionally, the technology with the drive assist and cruise control is unreliable at best. My advice, find another car.
For 2021 and its still only a refresh. Overall profile is same as the 2015 -2020. They needs to fire the designer teams and hire people from Audi like Hyunda. Looks is not impressive and AWD is now offer on Camry, Nissan, etc...Subaru is not longer the dominate in AWD.

Just found a 2020 Limited at an amazing price. Even with out the turbo engine ots is comfort and style you can't complain about
Doesn’t look that boring. Just drove one and it sits quite high for a sedan.
Looks like a 1993 Camry that someone drew angry eyes on. The trunk is thicc. It's also cavernous, and the car drives like a dream considering the price point.
“It is not a sport sedan..” it reaches 150 mph in the time you need to say “this is not a sport sedan”

2:13 If that's the WRX motor, I'll eat my hat. I think you meant it's the same motor that's in the Ascent, opposite side of the Subaru model line-up.
Yes, you are correct... it's from the Ascent. I was discussing this with a guy at the dealership the other day.
2.4T from Ascent...WRX has a 2.0T.
You fools, the WRX has always had a flat 32 with 20.0T
The 2022 WRX has this exact same 2.4 turbo paired to a beefier CVT and tuned to a bit more HP.
You have to go deep into the menu to turn off auto stop start every time you drive
M.R. not anymore. If you take it in to have the update done, the button to turn off the auto stop/start is right on the front screen.
