i still have not seen a horse better than poppy he had speed and hear was tough and the most expensive speed i have ever seen from a horse like that night at m.valley where in couple of hundred meters he put twenty five meters on the field
I'm reminiscing about my favourite horse...not Poppy.. Halwes .. I was at the Showgrounds in Melbourne to see Halwes going the wrong way in standing start ( he was from 24 yards) when the starting let them go .. he'd lost over 100 metres by the time the driver turned him round . He caught thr field had a slight breather then raced around to the lead with a lap and a half to go . He went on to win easing down by 30 yards.. I was weeping with joy...just sensational..I adored Halwes. .He was an absolute champion.. should have won a nz interdomimion .. won all three heats.. very few do that but was a last minute withdrawal.. He should never been withdrawal ... another story. he would have won too against s top field ... late sixties
