I love this channel because it goes full simulation. It's beautiful to see a complete representation of real-life events, tactics and/or strategies, focusing on depicting how it really is!
My only major critiques of your intercept: 1. You locked the target. You may have been in TWS mode, which isn't as bad as the intended 'target' *shouldn't* receive any indication, but if you were in STT mode that's just as bad as shooting a missile. A radar lock is essentially just below firing a missile in terms of severity and can really escalate a situation. Turkey and Greece have done that to each other (both aircraft and air defence radars) on a few occasions - around Cyprus, in fact. It's a pretty big deal to do that. 2. Considering the spread of the escorts, as the 2, I would have hung back behind the trailing Su-35 to not only keep an eye on your lead and the primary focus of the intercept, but also the 'stray'.
12:46 FYI you have a guard (G) permanent preset, just past the #1 preset and maritime (S) if you turn the channel selector knob counterclockwise. The guard freq defaults to 243 or 121.5 depending on whether the previous channel was UHF or VHF. 243 is the military guard. Fantastic video!
What a beautiful cinematics and a dramatic mission! I was thinking "you are too close to them" for the whole time... 2 + 2 seems to be the normal loadout for the Finnish AF QRA Hornets. They tend to use 1 x fuel tank instead of 2 though.
Agree 2+2 and bags, although keeping airframes clean is usually a secondary consideration as wing life of missiles is usually the main limiting factor on how many are carried. Missiles are very expensive and surprisingly short lived under flight vibration regimes. They do get refurbished but this is expensive.
@@duracelsus check! Although I don’t like giving too much flak about formation in DCS Especially to youtubers since flying close is more cinematic and looks cooler
Wow! I never expected that to happen! What a good scene for a movie! And the pronunciation of your "Adios", pal, I congratulate you. For the Hispanic audience, thank you very much! "¡Muchas gracias, amigo!"
@@CommandT what could be nice is to do stealth intercep mission with maybe f22 escorting Air force one and su57's are going to intercept and vice versa
Normally one fighter would go behind the 3 hostiles just in case they do what they did in the video. One jet is the one who makes the situation "safe" by locking them up and staying in range for opening fire and one is intercepting by flying next to the bomber

For future reference there is a setting on the FPAS page that will give you the best climb angle. Im assuming it would be used for scenarios like this. Love the videos, keep up the good work!
One thing to note: If you fail to contact them via comms, you shall have one singleton intercepting the aircraft from the left and above, which kinda leaves you in a precarious situation where if you show them your ass it's quite easy for them to shoot you down... But that's what you're supposed to do in peacetime anyway. Also; I love how you basically became saddled as you had intercepted them.
Yeah lead doesn’t wait around when intercepting so that’s the way it worked out. And yes it’s true - I should have been further back covering during the intercept
This is the outcome of a wrong approach to the enemy: IRL, 1 plane would fly behind the enemy and ready to fire while the wingman would close up to take contact. So the front one is always covered by the friend behind.
For the Spanish F18 deployed in Lithuania in the Baltic police mission they usually carry x2 120B x2 IRIS T (Or AIM 9 M)x2 fuel tanks TGP Lightning II for visual ID
That was just as enjoyable to watch as i imagined it from arriving here from your short. I used to play Total Air War, but haven’t found a game I can enjoy as a super casual pilot. Can’t even find a good download for TAW anywhere :( +1 sub, looking forward to other content :)
Nicely filmed and looks an exciting mission…….we are currently learning VID intercepts in Shadowlands DCS flying school, taught by the awesome Tim Davies, real life ex RAF pilot who did this stuff for real. So I was interested in the tactics involved. Can I say it’s likely in reality that the target would have been locked the whole approach from 40 miles out- also, the intercept formation would likely have been in 1 mile spread to retain tactical efficiency. I was surprised how quickly it went bad and the hostiles got off the first shot ! Very nice video though!
Thanks, yes, there's a few discrepancies here from real life. Btw, Tim Davies has actually commented on this video himself about a year ago when it came out :)
I'm in a squadron in the navy that operates the E variant of the rhino. Just got back from deployment, and when we'd have the jets on "Alert" we'd usually have 2 9x's, 3 GBU's and a Maverick with the ATFLIR on the port shoulder (STA. 5) and the Droptank on the centerline, which is STA. 6 on the rhino.
Hey don't you think irl the number two will be trailing a little bit behind them? Just in case the aggressor tries to be cheeky? It felt a little bit odd. Apart from that a bloody awesome video mate.
Awww….no brake fluids celebration party for that Blinder crew tonight, “.…Dasvidaniya Comrade! Prashai…nothing but love dude, but watch that first step! “. 😂
❤ Amazingly real and what a Great quality video! With regards to your intercept tactics you suffered an unnecesary loss. When performing a QRA intercept you never as wingman fly in formation with your lead. SOP is that you take position at deep six in missile envelop range. Only the lead joins up. When the bogeys go hostile you can engage immediately and the bogeys have no chance of survival. Copy?
This game is so epic. And then its lovely edited as well. Lead was impressive. I dont even get my enemy oin the radar anymore sinc few updates. I avoid AA now and just enjoy A/G. And the F/A-18 can do very similar manouvers in reality like almost stopping mid air. You can see examples in demonstrations of Swiss Air Force F/A-18.
Very impressive and interesting video. The scene and simulation are superb. However, please note the modex number of VFA-37 would be 4xx, not 0xx. Also VFA-37 F/A-18Cs were switched to F/A-18Es in 2018.

i totally agree, it was so believable, the intro when the f18s start to roll around was cool
Agreed, just leave out the music.
It's undeniable that the Flankers have the most amazing engineering esthetics and just simply gorgeous lines.
100% Agreed. A modern Spitfire if you will!
They look vicious though
Absolutely! The way the front of the fuselage looks.....so magnificent.
I definitely prefer the Fulcrum's proportions, Flankers seem a little oddly long to me.
