This series was the one that proved to us that he still had it in him to be at the top of his game. Sadly couldn't continue for long and retired in 2012. Nonetheless, one of the greatest players to have walked the earth.
Clarke was lucky to have Ponting as a Coach while Ponting was still playing, a lot of the time, a Captain will retire instead of handing down the captaincy. I think Ponting is the Greatest Captain of all time, but I am only 26, so I haven't seen the likes of the Chappell brothers, Ian Botham, Bradman, Sobers......so I don't know. Tim Paine is also very lucky to have Steve Smith mentoring him. Paine is now an Excellent Captain.

Punter was God. It was so good to see him finally get that ton against India. The great man never deserved to be brought undone so ingloriously by the pretenders that NZ had in their bowling attack. No sledge on New Zealand, but they just aren't in his class. It was even worse when Kallis bowled him all ends up. In his pomp Ricky would have been sending Jacques' medium pacers into the 12th row.

He'll be remembered most for that glorious pull shot he had, but he had every single shot in the book and made it look classy. More that that though...you could almost pick him just for his fielding, and the effect it had on the other 10 men when in the field. Absolute Gun.
I have been playing Field Hockey since my childhood. And I always tried to lead my team the way Ponting and Ganguly did. These two have been the best captians their teams have had.

Yeah Ponting was a close....very close second, but Clarke edges him out for his brilliant knocks, handy wickets and great Captaincy.
