- If left untreated, fall armyworms (Spodoptera frugiperda) can destroy a pasture or field of crops in a very short time. James Locke, soils and crops consultant for the Noble Foundation, shows you how to identify the fall armyworm caterpillar, signs of damage that you will see on grass or crops and available chemical treatments to control the pest.

Hi from Tanzania , great insight but I would like to ask does those chemical don't kill the farmers friends who fight the falling warms ? Can we have a test on biological method than chemical? Let's talk more on this
Great video. Thank you
learned something new, thanks!
Is there any bird, mammal, insect, or reptile that devour the catapilla or moth.
If so, I'd initiate a breeding program and introduce them in affected areas.
ducks more than likely
Is it possible to use mosquito traps to control moths so as to prevent breeding into army worms????
Unfortunately, that is not an option.
Here in Germany we lost nearly 80% of our insect population due to all these idiots spraying their pesticides. Next in line will be the birds for they don't eat plastic...
Do you know there is a difference between native insects and invasive insects?
Army worms are invasive…

Army worms will kill your soul when yours trying to farm. They’re awful
I am definitely. Several of my landscaping clients have been hit. Going to cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars
No nematode solution?
Aug. 31 2022. Niagara, Ontario.
Over night our lawn was decimated.
Please suggest best pesticides available in india
Hi from Australia. I've been in a UA-cam rabbit hole on lawn care and these army worms are simply everywhere this year .
I know you guys as a nation aren't necessarily into socialism as such but ... this needs a federal response and no point treating your pastures when the suburbs are breeding these devastating pests and if the wind blows the right way their back enmasse.
Currently in Australia it's mice and with the weather conditions they aren't going away.
Anyhow I hope your agricultural lobbyists are seeking federal funding for control of these army worms and that includes suburban/urban areas or they will just keep marching on.
what time best to spray the insectecide?
Timing depends on the insecticide being used. Refer to the product label for specific instructions in regard to timing and rate. From the aspect of limiting damage to the crop, the armyworms need to be controlled by the time they reach the 4th instar stage. The 5th and 6th instars are the ones that cause the most significant feeding injury.
Morning and evening
Yup there all the way up in NW Ohio now.
What about Bifen or imidacloprid??
bifenthrin is labelled and good for fall armyworms, not so much for beet armyworms. Imidacloprid is not labelled for any type of armyworms on pasture, so not legal to use. The label is the law.
Lizards, geckos, these reptiles should be the natural enemies of the fall army-worm.
Don't these moths and worms have any predator?
Yes. They have many predators, however, they are often not able to keep populations below the economic threshold.
Nice
Here in Gambia lot of crops damenge by this insects because we don't have effective chemical control . fall armyworm is a very dangerous peste
Why not spraying something the prevent moth breeding and grow of larvae?
It MUST exist since plants are fighting them for 300 million years!
160 acres destroyed in 48 hours omg
200 ml emamemectin plus 200 ml lefuron per acre will give successful management
Here in n.c. Now
