    I agree. These look perfect to solve major reed storage issues. I ordered a couple from your links. Thanks for the info.

    I've been using boveda packs for years now, but assembled my own storage system, which is fairly large. This looks perfect.

    Would Legere European cuts fit in this case?

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому

      I think that they would fit, but my experience with legere is that the tips are very sensitive and easy to bend. Once bent the reed is useless and I would take the chance of sliding it under the band that these have

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому

      And, the main feature of these is humidity control which is not important to a legere

    Interesting!! Presently, I store my reeds in a small microscope slide box, I place the reed on a glass microscope slide and it is held in place with a rubber band. I think I got this idea from David Pino's Book. I will have to look into this. Thank You

    What is the difference between the “light” and “premium” cases?

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  11 місяців тому

      They have changed names since my introduction to them. The tray is slightly different but mostly the shape of the case is different. The premium is more of a traditional box while the light has rounded corners. I think this is accurate information that I am giving you....best to get another source to confirm or deny.

    Are the slots inside the cases numbered or distinguished in any way? Sure, I can number the reeds myself, but then you have to pull them out to find the one you want.

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому

      In the cases that I have (which I think were still made in the "prototype" faze of things, the premium ten has numbered slots. They are underneath the reed (for what thats worth). Months into using these cases, I am happier than ever with how my reeds are playing.

    Could you give the dimensions of these cases, please?

    Hi again Jay. Question for you. What were you using for reed storage prior to your use of the Brad Behn offerings? And did that storage mechanism also include some sort of sealed environment with Boveda packs? I ask because I'm using a sealable food container with 72% packs, storing each reed in an individual Vandoren plastic case. I get good results and paying North of $100 for a reed case like Brad's, although I won't miss the money that much and his offerings are excellent in form factor, just begs my frugal self to justify the expense. Thanks.

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому

      I get the resistance to the price point! I had been using a Vandoren Hygrocase (with the sponge at the bottom). I took more effort and attention (not that much really) to keep things “just right”. I also used the D’addrio multi-instrument reed case (with Boveda pack) - but the outside got sticky and my fingers got sticky when I touched it and I don’t like to play the clarinet with my fingers feeling like that.
      The Behn cases, while expensive, give me everything I want. I have used them every day since making this video and I have been overwhelmed with the consistency I get from my reeds.
      Your system sounds very well thought out and very effective. It sounds like, while you don’t NEED these reed cases, they would give you the same successful results with a small quality of life upgrade. For me, they also “spark joy” which sometimes I need when I get my gear out to practice:)
      I hope this is the kind of info you are looking for…they have simplified my life and made my reeds play more consistently. I can say that for sure.

  • @djonesey5
    @djonesey5 Рік тому +1

    Yes, the Brad Behn design is great--but bottom line, are reeds more playable or do they last longer using these reed case offerings than when stored in other humidity controlled environments?

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому +3

      I have been using these cases for a while now. I can't offer any mathematical proof of anything, but I have found my reeds more consistent than I ever thought possible since I have been using these cases. It is hard to quantify it in any way - but they have been as much a game-changer as anything I have ever used.
      The closest comparisons I have is the Daddario multi-reed case and the Vandoren hygrocase. It is far better than the Daddario. If the hygrocase was easier to regulate the humidity it would be an even race. Unfortunately, I am not grown-up enough to monitor the sponge at the bottom of that case. It works great when you use it right...

      @@clarinetninja Thank you. I currently used a food grade sealable container, modeled after the no longer available Rico/D'addario reed vault (remember that?), Boveda 72's, and Vandoren individual plastic reed holders. I love Brad's compact form factor, the air slots in the holders (I guess nothing I couldn't drill into some empty Vandoren individual plastic reed holders) and their ridges (nothing I couldn't drill into some empty Brad Behn individual plastic reed holders, which seem to have those ridges). I just can't justify the price/benefit for me. I gig with a TINY clarinet case around a gig bag. Maybe if I carried a larger clarinet case with no gig bad I'd feel different.

    • @BorisClarinet
      @BorisClarinet Рік тому

      @@djonesey5 Exactly. I remember that Rico product. It was amazing, especially after I found out that you can buy boveda packs. It was tough and sealed very well - much better than regular bags, and it sure saved me A LOT of cash.... but unfortunately, that also means fewer sales for Rico. After years of use, I migrated to a hard sealed case with Boveda packs.
