My first football memories took place when I was barely 10 years old, watching football with my grandpa during Rich Rod’s first tenure. In the years since he departed my grandad passed away. Seeing coach rod return brings memories of me learning to love this team and special times with my grandfather come flooding back. Wish he were here to see this exciting new chapter… Go mountaineers!
Unbelievable recap. the WVU Sports Media team is just dialed in on another level! I have to say that I grew up with Rich as my coach , so this is emotional. I'm SO excited for the future!
I used to have WVU season tickets with 4 other friends.....I have lots of memories when Rich was there.....those 4 friends are all now deceased. Safe to say, watching Rich Rod come back takes me back to good times when all 4 of them were still around. Welcome home Coach!
Welcome home, Coach and family. Thanks Wren. If Christ can forgive me why can't I forgive 17 years ago. Let's Go Shock the World. Let's Go MOUNTAINEERS!!❤💛💙🏈
You know I was very against his hire, but after his press conference, he actually made me tear up a little and I'm super proud that he is back, and I'm super excited to bring him home...17 yrs ago he was dumb, but after that press conference I realized he's grown, and legitimately proud to be home
Sorry to disappoint you but Baker had nothing to do with the RR hire. If anything he was AGAINST him 100%. He was told to HIRE him and be the message boy which he is and that is all.
I had reservations when RichRod's name started surfacing. I have no reservations now. This was the right move. God bless Wren for looking past what happened 17 years ago.
@joebaseballparks3189: Indeed...Who has not made mistakes in their life? A man plowing a field does not look behind, but at what is in front of him. Wren Baker is a wise man and I truly believe bringing Rich home was not only the right decision, but the best one! Lets Goooooooo
I love what Pat did by making this the biggest sports story of the week and how much he knows it means to this state and everyone that has played here for RR , what a great blessing and a beautiful moment. Let’s go!!
I've come around on the hire. I can tell he really regrest leaving and the aftermath that occured. I hope that this is the start of a new era in WV football.
I too am coming around to the rehire. I too like most had a bad taste in the mouth over 12/1/07 and how it went down nit listen to his pressure and heard him out and felt he was genuinely regretfull
I marched lead trumpet in The Pride when Coach Rod started in 2001. Seeing RR back makes it feel like WVU football is back where it belongs before a single snap. Coach Rod's attention to detail and discipline, his respect and knowledge of our WV heritage, and his love for our Alma Mater is unmistakable. Great days are ahead, folks! LET'S GO!!!
The old Anniston, AL airport. Believe it or not there used to be commercial service out of that tiny terminal. Now JSU uses it to fly in and out of. As a JSU alum I Hated to see Rich go but I knew if he was successful he was gone. He is a good one. Congrats WVU.
Everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. You can tell he had waited for this a long time. Someone else said God forgives us so we ought to forgive. The Bible says to forgive our brother 70 x 7 times. Let’s GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!
It's not about forgiving, it's about bringing in a retread on the downtrend. Zero P4 offers since he left Arizona. What is every other program missing that WVU found in the Product?
I’m so excited to have #RichRod back where he belongs. I think we are gonna start having amazing seasons again, and awesome bowl invites! #LetsGoMountaineers #ItsagreatdaytobeaMountaineer
Wren, this is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to witness these incredible moments. Coach Rod, we are all so thankful to have you and your family back at WVU. This will go down in the history books as the greatest decision WVU ever made and we give honor to Wren and his staff for their hard work and relentless commitment to the university, the state of WV, and the fans. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I feel this is the type of coach that will take us to where we want to be.....the simple reason is he coaches and wants to win as much as we as fans want to win, because he... is a fan from WV who became a coach. He wants our "underdog" state to come out on top. He will do what he has to do to win and have the team competitive. I sincerely believe him when he says he will retire from wvu.. as long as he is successful, he can leave when he is ready. I donr think i ever saw Brown get angry enough at losing, that wont happen with Rodriguez!
Baker was 100% against the RR hire. Want to thank anybody thank Kendrick, Patty MAC and the other big DONARS and the former players who supported RR behind the scenes. BAKER had nothing to do with the hire. If Baker had any say Neal Brown would be getting another extension for going to the SHIT bowl and LOSING.
I wasn’t on board at first, but he won me over during the presser. I needed him to admit that he made a mistake the first time around by leaving, especially in the way he left.
0:54 "Is Yann's dogs still open?" while looking at his watch. Yes coach. I guarantee you they will stay open extra long for you, my man. A dozen on me.
Richrod regretted leaving the first year. I know personally. But he is and always will be a mountaineer. This was the real only choice. There was never a second of hesitation. Any that say they didnt want him are people I dont want to know.
Happy to be home. I never flew anywhere but any traveling I've done I'm never so happy to see that sign Welcome to West Virginia. Or as we say West by God Virginia
He left because the higher ups at the school didn’t wanna give him the tools to be a powerhouse and he is returning because he loves the school. How anyone hates him I don’t understand.
Because nobody outside of WVU fans cares (or even knows) who the Product is. Not like he was a highly sought after coach. Zero P4 offers since he left Arizona. A retread on the downtrend.
While we are grateful for what he did for JSU, him leaving before the bowl game has forever ruined his legacy in our town and it’s a real shitty thing to do. Coaches should be better about finishing what they start.
Neal Brown’s entire stint was a disaster. At least with Rich Rod we’ll bring in money from Pat and Pac-Man and whoever else for NIL and Pat’s platform is huge. We honestly needed this. 2004 was 20 years ago old timer, move on or just go watch Marshall
