This is far too thick for a 36mm watch.

I agree. They do make a very similar watch with a 38 and a 42mm case that is 12.5mm thick (NH35 movement)

The accuracy should be easily to correct,
but you can't expect people to do that themself..
I would be more worried if the watch was working fine
but after visually checking the balance-spring
it was off factory already maximal adjusted to + or -
