He was traveling for work, many companies offer an optional travel voucher for some trips, and accommodations are already covered, so he would only be paying for food. Other people have frequent flyer miles that can be exchanged for flights, I really dont believe he's throwing around cash money like that.

The elephant in the room is that he could have easily found himself in a situation where he was being accused of sexual assault. Even her demeanor on here paints him in a certain light. Dude has to stop trying to buy women's affection. He bought the trip trying to show off for her, she realized mid trip she was stuck in a foreign country with a guy she didn't really like (and he was probably trying to smash too), and she freaked out. He can avoid stuff like this and save himself the headache by slowing down and not leading with material possessions.
EDIT: Splurging like that so early on could also be lowkey manipulative, and based on the tension and the words not being said, something tells me he switched up on vacation and threw her for a loop.

My take on it is that Eric wants a relationship but hasn't met his match. He wanted her because he felt she was attractive at first and met her representative as we all do when first meeting people. His seems to be a person who plans things out and didn't get the result he wanted with her.
